Rapport had the balls to continue playing for the win where most of the player would have agreed on a draw. That‘s a kind of chess people want to see 🤩 Pure bravery and mandness 😎
After the match Rapport said instead of the expected threefold repetition, he played e5 without seeing the end results. He called it “a leap of faith” move.
I am so happy that Rapport won. Watching him play in the Candidates will be amazing against top players like Fabi, Alireza , Nepo etc. Hope his chess career continues to shine with brilliance! 14th March 2022, 12:35 A.M.
The only way he doesn’t make the Candidates now is as follows: In the third leg, Hikaru has to finish in second place (or win his pool with a better tiebreak than rapport) and the first place winner must be Dominguez, Giri, or MVL AND they must have a better tiebreak than Rapport.
I think that chances are he won't qualify if Hikaru finishes in second place and either Aronian or Andreikin win the third leg, as Hikaru and Aronian or Andreikin would get 23 points and leave Rappoprt behind with 20
How does this format work? Does everyone play two of three legs, and Rapport is the only player who has played two of the three? I'm confused on how he has 20 while the others have 10ish.
Insane from Rapport. Very accurate in a volatile position...which leads me to wonder why Andreikin opted for the Janowski. It just played to Rapport's strengths in complex positions.
I had nothing to do today, so I watched the second half live. Looked drawish until that awkward play by Andreikin. All-in-all, a SUnday afternoon well-spent.
First tiebreak is number of grand prix wins, second is number of runner ups, third is a bit ambiguous, number of total game points, fourth is equally ambiguous, number of total wins. Ambiguous because those who make semifinals/finals will obviously have more games.
He had to play rc1 as there is bxa3 otherwise and if the bishop is taken by the b2 pawn, then the c3 knight hangs(attacked twice). With rook on c1, the c3 knight is defended twice.
I’m confident I’ll impress my friends at the library when saying that the D pawn must always be captured in the yanovsky variation of the queen’s gambit
at 12:33, in your what-if scenario, if black queen moves to d4 instead of b5, then Dmitry could have check mated the white. After that queen move, even if white pawn advances and gets 2 queens, it is worth nothing. In the next 2-3 moves like rook to c2, white king to c1, black queen to d2 and dropping the rook to row 1 will finish off the King.
Probably the likeliest scenario of Rapport missing Candidates is Giry over Nakamura in Leg 3 finals, with Giry having a chance to get more points in classical games.
@@lkiss222 Get over the master of draws thingy! he always plays sharp lines and usually gets better position but he lacks in advantage capitalization but to compensate that he finds incredible resources in worse positions.
First time I got the move from the "Pause the video" moment. Felt happy for a sec just to discover that "No one plays this move from this position". Heh, I'm still a dumbass. Life goes on.
4:45 There is an obvious reason why Rapport plays Rc1. Black can play Bxa3 and if white takes back with bxa3, one of the defenders of the knight on c3 is gone. So Rc1 adds another defender for the knight.
He faced a rough go at first but now he is on a level with the candidates. Now the question is he going to be a shooting star like Nepo or with he last.
Rapport plays rook d1 to pressure the d5 pawn but after black's Qa5 black has bishop sacrifice on a3 and when the b2 pawn takes back, rook takes knight on c3 and everything falls apart, so rapport plays rook c1 to defend the knight. I may sound like some kind of top tier player that just explained something that agad couldn't but I assure you I myself dont know how this happened😂. Yes, and he had lower time too when he played Qe5.
Don't forget Dubov guys 😁 also crazy style, very enjoyable to watch
Just like Anish Giri 😅

I would say extremely tricky and slippery
Very resilient

Amazing ending to the game - both player showed their character. Rapport his fighting spirit and Dmitry's last move was just pure class!
Congratulations to Richard for such a brilliant win to take the tournament! Hopefully this will earn him the Candidates spot. Bravo!!
I love the way Andreikin played the queen move, to show us mere mortals what the problem was.
An immortal resignation, in classic style. Thanks Agad!

Ty, came here to say this !
Or maybe to bring Black's queen to a5 and then the queen couldn't defend the e6 pawn so black had to play Kf7..
And it was in this position that we have a completely new outfit on Agad
Such a gentleman man Andreikin.
I do feel it Rapport is the best candidate for a world championship match with Carlson!
Fun fact: Bh3 was the key resource that Kasparov utilized in his immortal game vs Topalov after all the madness had settled
