  • It seems the BIOS flashback problems regarding the particular USB stick being used isn't tied to EVGA motherboards only. I was recently trying to flash an old bios to my ASUS Rampage IV Extreme motherboard, and it quickly gave the same error I had with the new EVGA boards too.
I really recommend you keep an old USB2.0 based USB stick laying around for this procedure no matter which motherboard you are trying to flash from any manufacturer. When I tried an old USB 2.0 stick it worked just fine. The stick I used on the video is an old Kingston DataTraveler 2GB stick.

A bit left field and off topic but did you get any decent results when your were testing your evga x58 classifieds? I havent seen and hwbot subs with them. I have a e770 classy 3 myslef and plan to bench it on water with 920's and a 990x

I keep old 4GB or smaller USB sticks & SD cards for firmware updates, old systems wont work with devices (camera/audio device/mobo etc) bigger than 4GB.
Iv got a bunch of audio devices that have the same problem, Zoom H1/2/4.

I think the problem can actually be related to the type of the filesystem. My Asus motherboards refuse to work with NTFS but happily accept FAT32 or sometimes even exFAT.

Just to confuse you even more: Asus mobo can read NTFS but the actual Asus EZ Flash reports a file integrity error or something like that.

I find sometimes capacity comes into play too, this is part of the reason I keep a 256mb drive from the early 2000s around

That could be a good thing to MB -vendors to include 100% compatible usb-stick with MB.
