Great video Phil, believe it or not I've never seen a wheeled pig tail, I'm gonna get myself one of them, just goes too show that even a seasoned (old) caravaner like me can still learn things, great guide for beginners. Stay safe best wishes Jon and Karen
Another good instructional video Phil, great of you to take the time to run through these in east to follow steps for newcomers to our hobby/pastime... 👍🏻 ✅
Useful vid Phil of how to initially set up your gas. We use the tap on the gas bottle to switch ours on and off when we’re are touring. It is important to know where your taps are in the van so you can isolate if necessary 👍
Another informative vlog Phil, keep saying I’m going to get a wheel pigtail, might help save the skin on my knuckles trying to do it with the spanner. Cheers Martin
Nice one Phil good tip advice I've got a wheel pigtail on mine but it out of date now been told by the bloke who service the last year it need replacing where can I get one from I've got a sterling Eccles 544 .2012 year van similar to your van cheers kev
Thanks for the video. I have been trying to re-connect the gas supply to my caravan after shutting it down for the winter. I have turned the knob on top of the cylinder and also turned the tap which is just behind it. I have also turned on all the taps situated under the seating for the various appliances but no gas is coming through. I can't help feeling I've missed something. Can you help please?
Hi Evelyn. This may sound silly but is there gas in the cylinder? Without knowing your Caravan I don't know the pipe system. The other thing is it can take a while for the gas to flow to your cooker. Failing this you may need it checked out by an Engineer. Thanks Phil🙂👍
@@lostweekendscaravan thanks for the speedy response, yes there is gas in the cylinder. Would temperature affect the gas. The caravan is parked over 900 feet up in the Preselli Hills and it's been very cold up there
Helpful video, many thanks. Could i just ask, are the threaded ends to the gas bottle the same whether it's blue butane or red propane? Or is a different pigtail required? Thanks again.
Hi. Thanks for watching. Good Question it is the same fitting. I would recommend the wheeled pigtail but make sure it has a rubber gasket on the tip. The only difference is Safefill have the lugs to refill the bottle. Very worth while but would recommend the 7.5kg bottle as it is easier to fit in the gas locker. Thanks Phil👍🙂
@@lostweekendscaravan many thanks for that. I'll investigate that as a friend of mine was saying that he refills his. The caravan I'm about to purchase for a bargain price through a family relation has gas 2x dumpy blue butane bottles in, so I'll probably nearly empty those and see where to go with it. I'm guessing you have to buy the refillable bottles at first?
Hi. The safefills are not cheap but most folk are using more gas as the sites are starting to charge for electric on top of the pitch price. You will get your money back in gas price savings. PS check the date on the pigtail when you buy the caravan, they have a 5 year use by date print on them. Thanks Phil. 👍🙂
Hi Phil, Following this video, we got a pig tail fitting on our new gas bottle. Like a lot of caravaners, however I'm a bit paranoid about the gas running out ... Has your gas bottle got a level indicator and if so, was it easy to fit ? Maybe you've done a video somewhere - I've had a root but can't see anything ?
Hi Phil. Great video. So easy to follow. Last week I purchased a 'safefill' 10kg propane bottle and a set of euro connectors for my motohome. Today I just realised that the B.P. lightgas bottles that I am replacing have a totally different hose. I believe it is called a 'huddersfield' hose fitting. So my question is, will these 'pigtail hoses fit my 'safefill' bottle and if so where can I purchase one ? Hope you can help. Steve.
Hi Steve. I have just looked on Huddersfield Hoses Website. The short answer is it depends on the thread. Huddersfield Hose do make them to fit the Safefill. Have a look in this link. Thanks Phil 🙂👍 www.huddersfieldgas.co.uk/product-category/gas-hose-hose-kits/
hI again Phil, Thank you for that. I have gone ahead and just ordered one. You are a star. Keep the vids going for us. Excellent stuff. Thanks again. Steve.
Thank you for these beginner videos, they’re really helpful :) We’re awaiting the arrival of a super sprite db. Do you know if it will come with the pigtail pipe or do we need to buy that separately?
Hello and Thanks for joining us. I am glad the videos are helpful. The answer to your question is No. You will get a hook up cable. Contact your Dealer before buying just to confirm. I bet you can't wait to collect your van. Happy Trails. Thanks Phil🙂👍
Hi Phil, have subscribed to your series and watched a few. The thing for me is that you are concentrating on newer vans than we have [ours we just bought is 20 years old] so this gas system you are showing is completely different to ours, we are on the blue bottle which i think has a different connect up system. Can you not get hold of a 20 year old van and go through again? Thanks
Hi Brian. What make and model of caravan do you have. I do have a friend who has an older van and has a youtube channel. I could ask hm as getting hold of an older van is not that easy. What I cover does tend to be for newer vans from New to 10 years old. I will speak to Martin about this. Thanks Phil🙂👍
Hi Phil, we have purchased a 1999 Stirling Welland Voyager, 2 berth, about 17ft. It has a Thetford toilet but is different to yours, as is the gas, probably lots of things. thanks, Brian@@lostweekendscaravan
Hi. If your regulator is not like mine a Bulk Head then this may be your only option. I have not seen any others that compensate for this. Sorry this is not more helpful. Phil🙂
Quite simple Justin, Remove the current one and take it to the Dealers. If you don't have one take a photo of your bottle connection point and show it to the Shop Assistant they would able to help you. I hope this helps Phil.🙂👍
Why don't you mention the actual size of the fittings and you don't mention how to test it for leaks? surely that should be very important? I don't understand why this would be omitted.
HI Good questions. Firstly all the fittings are standard as per EU regs. Yes I did forget the leak test. This was recorded during covid so time was not on my side. Sorry. Thanks Phil👍🙂

Good safety advice there Phil. The wheeled pigtail looks easy to connect. Thanks for the detailed video. Take care. Rob

It could be the temperature. Might be worth moving to a warmer area and trying again. Thanks Phil
