Even though we couldn't see his face, Colin's reaction to seeing Christine Lakin was the single greatest thing I've witnessed today. Thank you, wonderful gentlemen, for brightening my day.
Yes! I was worried this episode wouldn't be released yet. Just took a warm shower, pizza is here in a minute, I've got steam loaded up - what's more to ask for?
You guys put up some serious points there on the immigration issue. My dad did the whole swim over and lived in US till he married my mom and became a legal citizen. So if someone had rounded him up and took him back before I was even conceived I wonder what life would have been like not only for my mom, but also my sister who's the elder sibling of 7. Or maybe even before he had my mom even. I live in Texas, and often I hear from others talking about how Mexicans from the boarder are ruining not only this state, but others as well. On the flip side I hear just as much about how hard workers many who do come actually are, and over the years I've kind of ignored this issue because I have absolutely no idea on how this could be solved. It may come to the point where there's someone who just decides to try one approach to containing and maintaining the boarder as well as immigration/American citizenship. If it doesn't work, the another person will either tweak the idea or take a completely different stand till it pass/fails the public's or world's viewpoint of the south border. This post was probably pointless, but oh well.
not sure if someone has said this or not already as i am catching up on many episodes. New Zealand fought in WW2 alongside Aussies and South Africans under British command.
And now I miss Conversations with Colin even more. I think he is a really smart dude, who takes time to think about important issues and the immigration and NZ discussions really proved that.
All the Starbucks where I live have super inconsistent products. It's mostly because the training sucks and they never have enough people working the counter.
Greg makes a good point. There are a lot of more obscure countries whose geographical location is knowledge that is mostly irrelevant. Why should Americans know where every country in the EU is when most Europeans couldn't label all the states. Although the American education system is definitely not focused on teaching much about international geography.
TGOG show is one of those shows that you can count on being good even when you're iffy about the topics. One of these days I will pay for the full episode.. one of these days.
Who remember watching Saturday mornings TNBC shows like California Dreams hang time city guys Malibu,CA.. USA high one world saved by the Bell new class..
Listening to this epsidoe in 2020 and realizing that they just design the set for We have cool friends (pictures in the background). Colin was a genius
Colin, thank you for bringing up your topic. I loved Al as a kid and I love all the goofy stories that show your past mistakes that we all laugh at now, but immigration into our USA is a seriously important topic that's currently on the politically radar, but for the past year has been a personal crisis for me and my beloved. She's Arab, from a country in Africa. Let's be a little vague here. She comes from a traditional family that follows Islam only so much as it is part of their culture. They're not fanatical about the religion, but they're strict to tradition. There's a huge emphasis placed on family honor and shame, especially for the women. One of her uncle's drinks and has been in rehab for it. Her dad held a knife to her throat when she was 7th grade because someone had cheated off her unbeknownst to her and that person got caught and it wasn't until another uncle beat her so badly she had to be sent to the hospital that her dad decided not to kill her. Her father was so angry and abusive because he didn't have a son that she had to be sent off to her uncle's household, less physical abuse but still some and a lot more verbal abuse. But those get swept under the rug like everything that might shame the family, but the drunk uncle or her abusive father don't bring shame upon the family in the same degree that a woman might. Her cousin, a girl, was found to be dating an Arab boy the family had not approved of. Her sister was found to be dating an African boy the family didn't know of. They sneaked around and used the internet to do this. These 18 to 20 year old girls were beaten senseless when their trespassing was discovered and now, years later, their phones, their emails, their computers are controlled by their parents. This is in Africa where Shariah law isn't the court's law and isn't as strictly enforced. Last year, my beloved was sold to a family business partner for $120,000 and to repay the business partner for helping them set-up their oil business. Within two months since they decided this, she was yanked from medical school in her final year after doing all but three rotations and then she would've been qualified to intern anywhere in the world. She was called brilliant by her medical board and she was a hard worker who after dropping a few courses due to family issues, made up the work so she didn't get behind her classmates. She was sent to Saudi Arabia without any information, having never met this man or his family, not knowing his age or even his actual name, and she thought she'd be returning to Africa to finish school. She hasn't been back in that year. She met the guy 5 times and then they were married legally and she's been living in Saudi for a year waiting for him to finish his schooling in England. All of our plans to try and get her out of the country and into America, where I've lived most of my life (a year teaching in Korea, a semester studying in the UK), are impossible. Plans to get herout of the Saudi alone are impossible because women aren't allowed to travel without permission, but the hope is she will vacation somewhere with her husband and she can bolt, but even once she gets here, she'll be turned away because she's Arab. It happened to her family when they tried to go for business trips. They had to apply a year in advance to try and get visas to visit the US for vacations and only one of the family member was approved. She doesn't technically qualify for asylum and the UNHCR and UN Women both list her exact circumstances as the types of people they try to help but have denied her help because she is not from a war-torn country and she is only escaping culturally acceptable domestic abuse. If they find out she's talking to me, she'll be killed. She had a facebook briefly and her cousin's friend found out and it was full panic mode because that's not allowed and she will be seriously beaten for it. She was whipped for having a cell phone. She is not supposed to have a computer. Everything about her circumstances on paper qualify her as the type who needs asylum but it's not recognized. And because of how little control over her life she had, she has no work experience and no university degree or medical degree though she completed 4 of the 5 years of training so she doesn't qualify for most work visas. There are people out there who have serious need to come to this country for a chance at a better life. She's not looking for handouts, for a free ticket here, for free housing. She's looking for a new life where she can work and give herself the freedom and value that her culture has never allowed for her, but because she is Arab, because her last name starts Al-whatever, because she's brown, grew up Muslim, has an accent, is from Africa, the wait time would be over 5 years according to all sources if she was even accepted. 5 years of being raped by a stranger till he's had enough babies then maybe he'll ease up, being in a foreign country where she can't leave her hair exposed, wearing make-up only so her husband doesn't go out and find another wife in addition to her. 5 years of not being allowed to touch a dog because they're dirty animals. And this is a complaint about the Arab culture in the Middle East, but it's something that Americans point to saying look how lucky we are, but then we do nothing to help. The people who really want to get into this country are going to get in. They'll go to Mexico, find coyotes, they'll pay their way, they'll do whatever it takes to get what they want. It's the same issue with drugs. If the government would loosen restrictions, they could control who gets in so we don't get as many threats to national security or people just looking to flee past crimes, and we could include them in the system so they're contributing.
in Sweden we have one Starbucks... and a coffee is 10 dollars. so yeah, that sucks. I like Starbucks though, went almost everyday when I lived in Tokyo ^^ Great show as always guys ^^
I thought that each side of the family had an exception to the Brady Bunch style gender thing. Patrick Duffy's side had Al, and Suzanne Somers' side had Mark. I loved this show. Even after it left TGIF, I watched it in weekday syndication on my local UPN affiliate. I thought that it was interesting how Bronson Pinchot returned to TGIF. I remember Somers in the lingerie in the bed scenes, and I was thinking "Wow, those are quite the PJ's". As for Andrew Keegan, I only knew his name through Disney Adventures magazine, but he WAS seemingly everywhere. I probably remember him best for his longtime role on 7th Heaven (as Wilson) and when he, Heath Ledger, Joseph Gordon Levitt, Samm Levine, Larisa Oleynik, and Julia Stiles starred in 10 Things I Hate About You. And some shows go for more than 7 years (granted that this is 3 1/2 years after the episode). Big Bang Theory's on it's 11th season, Grey's Anatomy is on season 14, Bones went for 12, and Supernatural (the only WB holdover at CW) is on it's 13th season. RIP Alan Thicke
As for Nick at Nite. Newhart is one thing, but I Love Lucy was going back even further than Bewitched or I Dream of Jeannie. I would love to see Lori Loughlin on GOG. She and Maria Bello were my two big 90's crushes. Colin was off on the Bures though. Candace married Pavel's brother Valeri. He played in the NHL from 1994-2004. For New Zealand, I'm familiar with where it is because watch the Womens' World Rugby 7's. Portia Woodman & the Black Ferns are one of the national teams in the world. There was an interesting segment on some late night show where they asked random Americans to point out North Korea on a map, and maybe 1 of 30 people could find it. When it comes to schooling, I got horrible grades for many years because I was steadily learning the schoolwork for the long haul rather than stowing everything for short term and regurgitating for quizes and tests. But, I admit that watching Rosie (Rose Ellen Dix's wife) trying to figure out geography is adorable.
Personally, I know the name of the planets. Just not the entire exact order. Earth's the third rock from the sun. Mercury's the hottest. Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune are the three outer Sailor Scouts. But I really was surprised that Venus is the second planet and that Mars is farther from the sun than us.
if voting is the issue for you Colin, i would bet anything that if that was an option every immigrant(not just latino, but middle eastern and european, yes those exist) woud take that deal in a heartbeat, the idea of being able to live without fear of corruption, crazy dirt poor living-on-cents-aday poverty, and well-being is much more important than being able to vote, and also about american culture, people who live in their own countries adopt american culture!! why wouldnt people who are actually living here do the same? eveyone is a child of immigrants here in the US and we all love our own culture, why would it be different for next generations growing up here?
I'm curious to know what Colin thinks of the spattering of Gadsden flags and obvious political slant in Battlefield Hardline. Might be a good topic of interest.
Pretty disappointed in Greg not knowing where New Zealand is, and then threw the "I'm an American" excuse, which is weird because I'm a college student in America and I know where it is. It isn't hard, the place is pretty huge.
Beyond!! Love the show but you really need to add stuff like the fact Al freaking Lambert was on the show! Maybe a follow or check her out link down there with yalls!
I get that there are things that people need to know but honest there are things that you don't. One that you don't need to know is the planets. Why in the world would I ever need to know that? Along that line I don't need to know every single country and where it is. That stuff isn't important to me. I don't travel for what I do and I'm not into Astronomy so why would I want to know know that. There are things that interest me and it maybe things that other people don't know. There all sorts of knowledge and people have different interests. It's not about being ignorant, it's about what interests you, in you life.
Kids learn NZ history. It's different living and growing here; for sure homies. Start with James Cook & maybe the Tiriti o Waitangi. Kaitiakitanga. The Foreshore and Seabed act. www.nzhistory.net.nz/politics/treaty-of-waitangi I suspect I probably missed some tweets so I hope I'm not reiterate something you've already seen.
Am I the only person who thinks that Nick Scarpino comes off as a little bit creepy and shady? It's like his body language betrays his words. Maybe I'm just crazy, but I've gotten that same vibe from him since episode one!
Greg is right that theres too much information nowadays, its just too bad that he chose to prioritize information relating to silly shit like comic books, instead of information about the real world.
Greg's putting the blame on the educational system in America is pretty lame. Nobody wants to take responsibility for not knowing anything beyond high school, so they blame teachers, the school, or the curriculum, rather than just say "I should have been a better student." But also if anyone was offended that Greg didn't know this, get over yourself. You are looking for a reason to be offended if that's the case.
Your argument makes no sense. He's blaming the education system because the level of education americans have after highschool is comparatively low in relation to other developed countries. Nearly everyone could have been a better student, it's not like students from other countries are trying any harder
Sorry if it upsets someone, but as a system, the borders need to be controlled, the legal citizenship process need to be streamlined, the birthright citizenship needs to changed. Honestly one of the most effective things we could do is have federal agencies investigate legal citizenships, close/fine businesses for using illegals, round up and execute illegals. It would deter others, and these are people that have invaded the country, stolen money and given it to other countries. If you want to know why our economy is messed up, they invaded and bred and stole your country's money for their own, and we lost.
The guy on the left is useless, he doesn't even know "step by step" (c'mon) or been outside the States. So what's the point of talking about immigration? Please Greg, bring other interesting people on the table!
She seems nice here but the fact remains that she was along with the rest of the kids on Step By Step the epitome of the bland generic assembly line sitcom kid.
joeb267382 That's not a bad thing considering the time period in which she was one. Back then they had great sitcom kids. Take a look at what passes for a sitcom kid these days on Nick and Disney and it'll make your eyes and ears bleed.
Osaji Obi You are right. The kid actors today on Disney and Nick are painfully bad. It's just endless mugging and really over the top acting. But Christine never had the talent of Gaby Hoffmann who was around during that time. Gaby Hoffmann stood out from those kids on Step by Step and Full House. Of all the kids on Step by Step Christine is the only one who still acts. I think it's mainly because of how beautiful she grew up to be and the fact that she will take any work.
Even though we couldn't see his face, Colin's reaction to seeing Christine Lakin was the single greatest thing I've witnessed today. Thank you, wonderful gentlemen, for brightening my day.
Seeing Colin speechless and stuttering is priceless. I loved Step by Step, awesome to know you are still getting work, Christina! You are awesome!
I love seeing Colin fanboy out and fail to find words. I would've been much worse though. Christine is beautiful and that voice... damnnnn. Love it.
Never saw anything you have ever starred in but thank you for being a guest on the show and causing Colin to be so very animated and happy.
Yes! I was worried this episode wouldn't be released yet. Just took a warm shower, pizza is here in a minute, I've got steam loaded up - what's more to ask for?
I love the ones that go for more than 2 hours
Why was it a short thing with her on. I know this is all late since I just came across this episode but it was awesome seeing Christine Lakin!!

Also I haven't seen many of the game over groggy shows, but is one if not the best episode I've seen so far.
Being from New Zealand we sound ever so slightly different , keep up the good work boys .
When Christine was on Step by Step I had a huge crush on her. I actually sent a letter to get her professional head shot signed. I still have it.
Zeeland is the westernmost point of Holland and right next to Belgium so in a way you were correct Greg
Al Lambert was one of my childhood crushes... And she seems as lovely in person as in my young fantasies.
im wathcing the ep200, had to pause it to watch this... found colin's kryptonite
omg she was the most beautiful of all of the girls from the cast
You do have the best audience on the planet!
Omg dang can't believe I've missed this till now wow Al from step by step!!
Starbucks is really rare in Southeast Ohio. Lots of local places with great coffee. They haven't penetrated everywhere...
this show is actually perfect.
love the longer episodes :)
not sure if someone has said this or not already as i am catching up on many episodes. New Zealand fought in WW2 alongside Aussies and South Africans under British command.
"Dont fuck the horse. Please don't fuck the horse." That's the next game over greggy tshirt
Colin being star struck was funny
And now I miss Conversations with Colin even more. I think he is a really smart dude, who takes time to think about important issues and the immigration and NZ discussions really proved that.
As goofy and silly as this show is, I really do like that every now and then Collin brings up a topic that makes me think.
With the whole new Zealand thing, I 100% agree with you
In my case, I'm form New Zealand and had a really tough time learning all the states lol.
Realizing that Portillo has met more famous people than I have...
Just saw on Vice, that Andrew Keegan kid started his own religion called Full Circle
I hated to see Ms. Lakin leave, but I hated it even more that I couldn't see her walk away! Lol
The reason I've never bought it on Bandcamp is cause I wanna watch the video.
Man I liked watching step by step very funny and fresh prince of L.A good times
The big question is when is step by step coming to DVD
"Ripping the band-aid off is always better than the slow peel" - Nick Scarpino
Christine Lakin is so cool!
Lanken is an amazing actress! I love this chick!
Just about everywhere but Starbucks is open 24 hrs around me.
TGOG show is one of those shows that you can count on being good even when you're iffy about the topics. One of these days I will pay for the full episode.. one of these days.
Don't let Collin go last anymore! Let's end these shows on a high note, lol. Luv your topics Collin, but it's Friday!

You say that but Tgif was insanely popular in america my dude...and a staple of a lot of childhoods
Tim had almost nothing to say about the immigration. I forgot he was there.
Please, someone make a shirt of the map of Europe, and paste New Zealand right next to England.. Please, for the love of God.
I'd buy it.
Aw MY Gawd its joyce Kinne! i knew i knew her from family guy lol

I knew New Zealand was in the southern hemisphere, but that's about it lol. I'm with Tim on having a crush on Starbucks girl though.

And Colin, i love Cumbersome
I thought 90 percent of people knew where New Zealand was.
I'm with Colin - the geography conversation makes me angry. Ignorance is never okay.
14:35, THE DOG IS SOO FUCKING CUTE!
Mt. Gagazet lmao. COME ON TIM! Hahaha :P
Am I the only one who knew EXACTLY what was going through Tim's mind at 1:41:03 ?
Tim Hortons all the way! From Canada with love.

She's so tiny! She's also really cute even though I don't know who she is.
If u want Bob Saget, get to know Chris Hardwick. :)
I want to do all the things to and around her!

Wooah wooah 'migo, one american mexican william yarbrough, plays soccer goalie for club Leon

Am I the only person who thinks that Nick Scarpino comes off as a little bit creepy and shady? It's like his body language betrays his words. Maybe I'm just crazy, but I've gotten that same vibe from him since episode one!
let tim host.
Greg is right that theres too much information nowadays, its just too bad that he chose to prioritize information relating to silly shit like comic books, instead of information about the real world.
Yes I was the first like!
Greg's putting the blame on the educational system in America is pretty lame. Nobody wants to take responsibility for not knowing anything beyond high school, so they blame teachers, the school, or the curriculum, rather than just say "I should have been a better student."
But also if anyone was offended that Greg didn't know this, get over yourself. You are looking for a reason to be offended if that's the case.
Your argument makes no sense. He's blaming the education system because the level of education americans have after highschool is comparatively low in relation to other developed countries. Nearly everyone could have been a better student, it's not like students from other countries are trying any harder
Cultural mosaics > melting pots. Canada FTW.
:)
If you want to know why our economy is messed up, they invaded and bred and stole your country's money for their own, and we lost.
nick cutting everyone off has become overly annoying in this episode.... almost threw something at my screen.
The guy on the left is useless, he doesn't even know "step by step" (c'mon) or been outside the States. So what's the point of talking about immigration? Please Greg, bring other interesting people on the table!
Australian accent and New Zealand accent are nothing like :/
She seems nice here but the fact remains that she was along with the rest of the kids on Step By Step the epitome of the bland generic assembly line sitcom kid.
joeb267382 That's not a bad thing considering the time period in which she was one.
