  • At the Tip of the Florida Keys is one of the last pristine reef systems and islands. These are the Florida Keys Marquesas and the Dry Tortugas. The Marquesas are a group of mangrove islands and are uninhabited. The Dry Tortugas are part of the US National Parks and have Fort Jefferson on them.
Here we look at all the beaches in the Marquesas and which are the best to go to. Whether you are into fires, sunsets, or slow walks the marquesas beaches have it all.
This was an awesome month-long off grid trip we did. I hope you enjoy as we explore these amazing islands. www.amazon.com...

The Marquesas are made up of 9 keys in a circle around a central harbor. Most of these are completely made up of mangroves. There are five different beaches on four of the keys. Each of these beaches offer an unique experience although they all share the beauty of a deserted beach on a Caribbean paradise.
Since the marquesas are only accessible by boat many people go to both boo boo key and tin tin key because they are right next to common anchorage spots. These anchorages are a common spot for staying overnight when people are heading to the Dry Tortugas. If you want to have a nice sunset on a beach either of these beaches are an amazing stop.
Tin Tin Beach is a little bit longer than Boo Boo beach. Tin Tin beach has a lot of sponge and coral on the beach. It also has some places under the trees for shade and a hangout area. One of the nice things about Tin tin is it was a bit easier to bring the dinghy up to the beach. Many of the beaches are shallow for a while and you have to walk in to the beach for about 100 yards or so.
Boo Boo beach was also a great place to walk and hang out. It had a wrecked dive boat. It also had a ton of dead wood which was great for a fire. This isn’t the best beach for walking on as it was one of the shortest in the Marquesas. It also was quite shallow coming in so we had to row and then drag the dinghy for a while.
On the south side of the island we went to Pelican Key Beach. The unique part of this beach was the land above the beach. Most of the time you had mangroves and bushes right up to the beach. It would be hard to walk onto the land at all. On Pelican Beach there was a bit of land before you got to the main bush and especially if you had shoes you might be able to explore a little. It was one of the hardest to get to on the dinghy though. It was probably about 300 yards of very shallow water to get there.
On the gull keys there may be some super tiny beaches at low tide but we never saw any that seemed worth it to explore. If anyone has experience visiting these, tell us in the comments below and link a video of it. We would love to hear your story.
The last two beaches on the Marquesas are both on Entrance Key. Entrance Key is a very large island and is several miles long. It has a “lake” on it although I’m not sure if it is freshwater or salt. Most likely it is brackish. One of the beaches is on the East Side of the island. This was an easy beach to get to. It had tons of things washed up on shore including driftwood and things for a nice fire. It wasn’t a very long beach but big enough for a nice little walk. We needed bug spray for both of the beaches on Entrance Key, probably due to the lake. There were so many mosquitos once the sun set. This was also the only beach where we found a scorpion.
The other beach on Entrance Key is the North East Side. It is a huge beach at about 3 miles long. It also has a deepish channel going along the bottom part of the beach. You will have to walk through the water for a bit to get around some mangroves to walk the longest part of the beach. This was a very cool beach. We saw so many turtle nests and tracks. We also saw so many horseshoe crabs. This is one of the only keys in the Marquesas that has palm trees. We didn’t see any coconut palms, we just saw some thatch palms.
