    Thanks for the video! Nice to see an honest video on the issues you had and how youa solved them. Our gas dinghy outboard is on it's last legs before needing a major overhaul. My wife really wants an electric so we've been looking to se what's out there (ePropulsion was at the top of the list before I watched this). Definitely looking at simpler options like the Elko and HangKai m9re closely now - especially fr9m a value point of view.

    Even if they worked perfectly, the range is too limited. Idk I tried for months to convince myself of electric, I finally ended up with a tohatsu 5hppropane outboard and love it. Reliable and repairable.

    This is probably the better one, because the one where the motor is in the upper housing, it drives the prop through a shaft and gears which wil introduce a lot of energy loss *and* noise, which you don't want. For my use case I still enjoy the Epropulsion Spirit though!

    I’m aware that this already is one year old, there are a few things that I noticed: The condition of the motor.. You say that it is not used much, well, that doesn’t show, It looks like its used for years and years! Forgive me when it sounds a bit harsh, but you need to be al little aware that these things need some careful handling. I noticed corrosion and dents everywhere, as if a few gorilla’s were allowed to play with it😂 Well maybe its too easy for me to say it, as I am a guy that keeps electronics live 5 times longer than average. A good thing I noticed: after all this, it seems that not even one drop of water managed to get into the motor compartiment! It gives me the assurance that the claim ‘Maintenance free’ could even be true.. I still am convinced that the Navy 6.0 Evo is the motor for me. And no, I don’t have any connection with Epropulsion, nor have I any shares in that company😊

      i hiked it with my brother, there is no sign that marks the caves, it took us a couple tries to find it. what we learned is you start on the blue trail and go up. then you get to a spot where the trail splits between the blue and orange trail. you want to take the orange trail because the caves are on the backside of the mountain

    • @olafschermann1592

      @@davidmatthews3093my point is that expensive Electric outboards still lack of quality. On the torqeedo you either need every 3 years a $1.200 repair or doing a $700 service once a year. On epropulsion the technsupport lacks, and when i hear they charge $100-$150 for the extention cable (which he only needs for those properitary connectors) and the powerbutton is worn out after a few month then my opinion is that price / quality ratio is not ok. So i stick with cheap chinese motors as it is ok to buy a new one after a few years because they cost nothing. I am willing to pay $3000 for a small torqeedo or epropulsion but then they should last 10 years and spare parts like connectors or gaskets should be cheap and available. Compared to petrol outboards those electric outboards are more simple and should last longer, but it is the opposite.

      @@4ofaKindhomestead That's cool. I didn't realize you have a UA-cam channel about your family living on a boat. I like the videos I watched so far and will check some more out soon. I came across your video when looking at videos of the Dry Tortugas. I grew up in Southern California and never saw the clear water like that in the ocean. We lived in Ohio now for a long time and I told my wife I'd love for us to drive to Florida where we can snorkel in clear water. My friends keep telling me I should take my wife on a vacation because we've been super busy the last 8 months starting a new church that I pastor. I'd love to check out the Dry Tortugas but I think that is out of our budget this year. Maybe next year.

    • @4ofaKindhomestead
      @4ofaKindhomestead 2 роки тому

      @@videosforpublicspeakingcla1196 it's definitely worth it if you can make the time and budget. There is the Yankee freedom ferry that you can take out of key west everyday that goes there. That is the easiest way to see the dry Tortuga's . I would just check the weather for low winds before you go. ( 10mph or under) it will make the water much clearer

    The new Evo versions of the epropulsion motors can also work as hydro generators when you are sailing, the Navy 6 (6kW/10hp) will generate 1 kW at 10 knots.

    • @4ofaKindhomestead
      @4ofaKindhomestead 2 роки тому

      I am glad that they are making them with hydrogenation. It is a huge step for solar powered boat potentials

  • @robertsmart5600
    @robertsmart5600 2 роки тому

    The motor will work without the handle (take it off) and use an epropulsion remote throttle/display instead? You could also use a big epropulsion remote battery to get much longer range. A Navy 3 (3kW 6hp) may have been better. Elco make up to 50hp motors if you want to plane, they use gas outboard housings/legs. Having the motor at the bottom of the leg causes a lot of drag when going at planing speeds which is probably why epropulsion only make motors up to 10hp/6kW? A 50hp electric motor needs big batteries!

If I can not speak with someone rapidly after I call, and not a computer, it tells me they don't want to speak to anyone about their problems with their products. Thanks .Keep us posted on gas motor mpg speeds what dingy length type . 4 stroke Mercury 3.5 hp is reputed to be 0.3 USA gallon tank and full speed is 50 minutes run time per tank . Keep us posted on the 2 kw chines. E motor 12 foot flat boats used for fishing on 6 hp again small tank is repuditly 18 mph (~ 15 knots ) on plane takes 30 seconds to get on plane and gets ,~30 mpg USA gallon tank is 30 mins run full speed and 0.3 uSa gallon. I suspect a 10 hp on a inflatable ding 3.2 meter with 10 hp on 1q,1q,q~3/4 gas could get 1q maybe ~ 20 mpg at ~15 mph It seems illogical but speeds of 15 mph on a plane seems it can double the MPG with light weight single crew compared to more slow ,5 mph results Trimeran 25 ft cruiser type in calm seas on ten HP two stroke ~ 1/4 gas gets 30 mPG USA gallon speed not known so that ,I assume it's ~ 3 knots

    Is the 8 HP a plastic or aluminum prop? I started looking around at the Asian outboards a while back. The gas versions of the Hangkai motors scared me away because of the difficulty with finding replacement parts. Even the impellers were a month lead time for the slow boat to send them at a reasonable price. The electric version, though, doesn't seem like it would have any of those issues. That may also be better now that some companies have US warehouses. Thank you for the review. In my mind I imagined you having two of the Tesla packs in series to make this run. :-)
