Thanks for the great video. I don't have an adjustable gooseneck but I'd like to manually adjust my gooseneck to the best position for my typical sailing conditions. I weigh 125lb and the winds are typically 8-10 knots. Thank you!
Lee good advise keep up the good work ! Can you show more detailed still pictures of the gooseneck adjustment bolt you are using , especially size and type of metal ,to mesh with the brass. Thanks Mike
@@LeeSideSailing Oh, I see, you explain it in ua-cam.com/video/JH2_Bs9fDqU/v-deo.html -- in light winds, the bungee on the tack helps hold the sail out sort of like a foreguy. In very light/no winds, I often move my weight to heel the boat to dangle the boom where I want the sail to be. I'll try your bungee-foreguy idea.
Thanks for all your video and knowledge. What is the difference between Jens rig and adjustable gooseneck? It sounds and looks like the same movement of the luff, top spar.
The gooseneck adjusts the position of the lower boom in relation to the mast. The Jens adjusts the upper spar in relation to the mast. Working together it changes the center of effort on the sail. Some times you really need both adjustments, especially in extreme heavy air. Thanks for watching!
Sorry for the late reply. Statt at 15”. Depends in wind. 15-18” good to start with. If wind speed is 15-20, and you are a beginner, maybe stay on shore. 6-12 is great for beginners.
Hehehe. Just a straight measurement from the end cap. :). Start at 15 and move small increments until you’re happy. As far as center of effort. Yeah you need diagrams. ;).

Thanks!! Sounds awesome conditions:)
Thanks for helping me spend money again. I think Sunfish Direct has built a shrine to me at this point. Hahaha.
Hehehe. You will be happy with being able to experiment and sail in more conditions with this :).

Hi mike- most of it’s aluminum and aluminum alloys.
all good tips. thanks
Thanks Rick:)
Where can you find it for an older boat? The Amazon one doesn’t work on my 1971 gooseneck
You may be able to widen the hole a bit with a drill.
Another good video!
Thank you !!
What is the line through the eyebolts at 7:55? Is it a bungee to the rudder? Why the eyebolts?
That is my bungee daggerboard retaining line.
@@LeeSideSailing Why do you run it though the eyebolts rather than just around the mast or just through the handle?

I like that it puts tension on the sail especially in light air and could help hold the sail out going down wind in light air.

Are the new goosenecks aluminum? I'm now seeing some offered in aluminum.
I did not see any aluminum goosenecks, where did you see them.. ive seen them in brass and Stainless steel. Thanks for the question!
Contacted seller. Says that they are indeed aluminum, and he's sold many if them
Lee what was the sheet of paper taped to the topdeck portside?
That is a course sheet. At Menantic YC where I race on sundays they have 6 or eight different courses.
I'm 6'1, 215 and a rookie. I'm ordering the adjuster but, in the meantime, would you recommend I change it manually to 13, 14 or 15?

@@LeeSideSailing thank you. yes, I only feel comfortable in low to medium wind right now.
Are you using a preventer
A preventer to prevent a jibe? No
Lee, where should I buy the adjustable gooseneck?
There’s a link in the description. Bicycle seat posts work well.
Seat post adjusters. Not seat posts.
You mention reefing the sail: how?
Thats probably my next video.
Bought the seat adjuster cam in the description. Does not seat properly. Im disappointed.
Ugh. Sorry about that, i hipe you were able to return it. Ill check out the description
I just ordered one and will see what happens when i get it: Was the bolt too short/long or fat?
Man I need diagrams
