  • A Former Philippine lawmaker and nuclear advocate believes, reviving the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant would be more viable than building a new modular plant. Mark Cojuangco says, a South Korean firm has already offered the Duterte administration a deal to reopen the BNPP for over a billion dollars.

    Imagine starting the BNPP, we will enjoy the benefits of paying only half the price of our electricity. This will greatly impact our industries to have more product output without worrying about the great prices of electricity charges, with this we will enjoy cheaper products, cheaper internet bills. Many more foreign or even local industries will open, even farmers will enjoy this. They can use electrically driven rice mills, which will eventually drive the price of rice down. And many more. Considering Uranium is not that expensive to buy per kilo, and can be used for many years. I hope if not today, one of my apo will enjoy this opportunity, we don't have to be scared, we have to be informed and be educated about nuclear energy and its benefits.
    Our country has a great potential compared to other countries, please don't miss this opportunity.

    The safety of nuclear energy has changed from the 1980s to the present.
    Previously, to make use of nuclear energy, one has to split an atom. The waste of this is very harmful and can destroy the environment if not properly dispose.
    However, new ways was found in the early 2000. It was by atom fusion. This practice is more safe and can be re-used many times. The waste is not as toxic as the previous practice.
    Basically, nuclear energy is a battle of information and a battle of logic. If people are more knowledgeable of the topic, then they will agree that The Philippines will go nuclear.
    Remember, the reason why The Philippines did not go nuclear in the 1980s, aside from politics, was due to the lobbying of private individuals involved in coal and oil. These are the same line of oligarchs that color party are protecting. They lack nationalism and only care about profit.
    Now, people of The Philippines, it is time to choose your future. However, be informed first before deciding.

The downside is it produce a nuclear waste with a half life of 500 years. Big improvement though compared to nuclear fission.

    We are already in the 21st century, and high costs of energy in the country are killing the poor ones slowly and painfully for decades. There is new and better technology in producing safe and clean nuclear energy for power and peaceful means. Nuclear fusion which combines atoms to produce energy instead of the conventional nuclear fission which splits atoms to create one that is more dangerous. They are building one in France and are in advance stages in China. We are the one who built the first nuclear power in ASEAN but never used it. Indonesia and Vietnam are considering it. We lost Sabah and North Borneo that are rich in oil. And oil and gas deposits in West Philippine sea could not be tapped due to disputes with our neighbors. Nuclear energy is the next best alternative if we want cheap and reliable source of energy to power us to modernization of industry and agriculture, ultimately for the betterment of Filipinos.

    ₱55B cost that we will have stable and cheap energy vs. ₱9T debt due to pandemic, would you neglect the long term benefits of the additional investment to run the nuclear power plant? Afterall,we already paid to construct BNPP, that can potentially create 900MWH. Nuclear energy has been proven generally safe if managed accordingly, over the decades since its existence. New type of nuclear power plant which is small and modular, can make up to 300MWH per year, designed by NUSCALE but still on its prototype phase.

    There were fatalities in Fukishima Nuclear plant that was not mentioned. BNPP according to Mark was complete, why do you need 1.15 billion dollars to rehabilitate it? Why don't you build 2 of the newest nuclear plants like what they were building in the Middle East 1000 MW each and/or the small modular nuclear reactors ? Can the government afford building these plants or we need private investors to build and run them under strick compliance from the Philippine government like USNRC? Hopefully there will be no corruption in running these nuclear plants.

      Besides, for sure they have considered already and thought about the maintenance, risks, engineering control, PMS, and sp forth. They would not push this through if they cant make it happen. Just be optimistic and believe in the capacity of PRDD, besides the previous adminstration made and causes the struggles in MRT/LRT.

    Resources should just be put to the future of energy, that is renewable energy (solar, wind, biomass, etc.). The prices of these energy have significantly gone down, so nuclear doesn't make sense now considering the potential risks involved and maintenance. Let's just move on and better think long term

    • @JuanCarlos3rd
      @JuanCarlos3rd 3 роки тому +1

      U wont use the full capacity of those renewable energy because solar and wind are not even available 24/7 unlike nuclear plant and is already proven safe😂

    • @eraliaa3219
      @eraliaa3219 3 роки тому

      Solar and wind are not sustainable! Making solar panels aren't environmentally friendly and wind as well. There's an actual scientist who actually is against these so called "renewable" energy you speak of is cause they're not truly renewable nor clean. With solar panels after 15 years you'd need to replace or refurbish them because they can rot and its leaks can damage further the environment.

    Seriously not safe? USA has 58 nuclear power plants in 29 states. Link: www.eia.gov/energyexplained/nuclear/nuclear-power-plants.php
    If Bataan Nuclear Power Plant is not safe then do something to fix it rather than continuously informing the Filipino people that "isn't safe" and do the necessary upgrades on the Nuclear Power Plant. Words are cheap but ACTIONS are Relatable and Valuable...

      its NOT YET available are you even watching.. It's still under certification in the US.. but study have already prove it to be promising it almost runs in minimal human intervention thus less human error and the containment due to its small size, is very easy and post no harm at all in case of a uncontrolled chain reaction. Contrary to your statement numerous asian nation already showed interest in the project.
