- A Former Philippine lawmaker and nuclear advocate believes, reviving the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant would be more viable than building a new modular plant. Mark Cojuangco says, a South Korean firm has already offered the Duterte administration a deal to reopen the BNPP for over a billion dollars.

If you Filipinos will not support Nuclear Energy in the Philippines then you have no right to complain about your expensive electric bills.
Very well said sir
filipinos supported the nuclear plant that's why it was build but the dirty "no-brain" politicians are to be blamed. It was running smoothly for a year as i recalled.
It's not the Filipinos but the politicians protecting coal power plant oligarchs
Nuclear engineers and Nuclear Physicist will be opened, one of my dream when I was a kid.
If the philippines is that scared to improve then we have no hope in the future.
Virgin pa kc mga pinoy. they don't know what is nuclear. kala nila nuclear bomb
omsim
hahaha!
Plus corruption backed-up ng politicians at media.
This discussion was backed by research and yet politicians still lukewarm about this. A discussion about motorcycle barrier without proper backing research, denounced by professionals and yet politicians are optimistic about it. Tell me there is nothing wrong about it.
it is simply because they look at it as a loss for their profit. Simple as that. Politics is a huge business, sad to say that.
Imagine starting the BNPP, we will enjoy the benefits of paying only half the price of our electricity. This will greatly impact our industries to have more product output without worrying about the great prices of electricity charges, with this we will enjoy cheaper products, cheaper internet bills. Many more foreign or even local industries will open, even farmers will enjoy this. They can use electrically driven rice mills, which will eventually drive the price of rice down. And many more. Considering Uranium is not that expensive to buy per kilo, and can be used for many years. I hope if not today, one of my apo will enjoy this opportunity, we don't have to be scared, we have to be informed and be educated about nuclear energy and its benefits.
Our country has a great potential compared to other countries, please don't miss this opportunity.
The safety of nuclear energy has changed from the 1980s to the present.
Previously, to make use of nuclear energy, one has to split an atom. The waste of this is very harmful and can destroy the environment if not properly dispose.
However, new ways was found in the early 2000. It was by atom fusion. This practice is more safe and can be re-used many times. The waste is not as toxic as the previous practice.
Basically, nuclear energy is a battle of information and a battle of logic. If people are more knowledgeable of the topic, then they will agree that The Philippines will go nuclear.
Remember, the reason why The Philippines did not go nuclear in the 1980s, aside from politics, was due to the lobbying of private individuals involved in coal and oil. These are the same line of oligarchs that color party are protecting. They lack nationalism and only care about profit.
Now, people of The Philippines, it is time to choose your future. However, be informed first before deciding.
Any endeavor involves "risk" , Risk however can be reduced by mitigating and resiliency programs.
@@leodegardopruna5566 every technology has a risks.
@@arielcalamity1106 Anything that involves splitting or fusion of atoms is extremely risky.
This why we Filipinos are very far behind those country who are admiring our achievements b4. So sad, they in still in the minds of our people the wrong perception about Nuclear.😡😡😡 These a great call that Philippines should encourage, invest and innovates future Filipino engineers because a country will be more progressive and be innovated not by ordinary people but by engineers. Kng naiintindhan lng tlga ng mga negative commentators how Nuclear very essential a developing country.. Napolitika kc tlga. For the safety, Nuclear is the most safest as long as standard practice ang innovations involved. Consult to the technical who have a strong background in Nuclear bago maging nega. Yes to Nuclear👊👊👊👊
Nuclear power plant is good so we can build nuclear weapons too so China can't bully us!
But I'm against in palawan! We should wait for ITER project! They gonna make nuclear clean energy basically using Ocean water! We have unlimited source! And it used Nuclear Fusion! So no chain reaction that make Meltdown! This is Good For palawan it is SAFE for the Environment!
Leon Esperanza! Yup I know! Thats why we need to fckn wait! No need to rush old school nuclear are too risky!
@@MekeniGaming The only thing I'm slightly optimistic about is the thorium reactors. India and China are the leaders in that tech. Why am I optimistic because according to Chinese scientist their target is 2025 to acomplish the functioning powerplant. Same perks with nuclear fusion no risk of meltdown. The downside is it produce a nuclear waste with a half life of 500 years. Big improvement though compared to nuclear fission.
Funny cuz South Korea is still operating nuclear powerplants of the same design in Bataan.
"ibalik na sa operasyon ang bataan nuclear plant. huwag na patagalin, ito ang pinaka solusyon para umunlad ang pilipinas."

Haha
Ayaw masapawan, para kunwari may alam din sya. Kakayamot makinig mahilig mag-interrupt.
Great Move from the government to study again the power plant this can help our economy .
Hey Karen The battle is in the mind of the oligarchs and media not on filipino people.
Correct.
Good Job Sir Cojuanco. Traydor sila
it's ironic that a Cojuangco is the one pushing for Bataan Nuclear Plant's revival
CAREN DAVILA WHY DID YOU CUT OFF YUOR DISCUSSION WITH NUCLEAR POWER ADVOCATE MARK COAUNGKO? YOU SHOULD HAVE GIVEN HIM MORE TIME TO TELL THE PULIPINO TO KNOW ABOUT THE IMPORTANCE OF OPENNING THE BATAAN NUCLEAR POWER PLANT. PLS. GIVE MARK ANOTHER PRECIOUS TIME.. T. Y..
why not both? revive the bataan power plant and build another new one..

You are correct Mr. Mark Cojuanco. Cusi is only interested that they should be the ones to be assigned to build new ones.
No fact checking = fake news delivered.
That's really good for the country, to run some nuke power plant, to answer the shortage of electricity, and it could increase our labor sector and production, to facilitate those foriegn factory or local consumption manufacturing sector and can create millions of job inside the country, wish it sooner, so that we can move further from this situation of always shortage of everything resulting from shortage of electrical energy to power every needs to produce everything we need in the future.
And more investors will come. Foreign and local.
Karen using the "Debt" card is misleading. Though Ph debt has increased, the debt to gdp ratio has been hitting record lows.
can you still say that now
imagine with nuclear energy, factories will run 24/7 with low cost energy and produce products for less for the filipino.

Nice Ma'am Karen and sir Mark for the the discussion on Nuclear Power Plant! Mabuhay po kayo!

The interview should've been more PRODUCTIVE, MEANINGFUL, AND INFORMATIVE if they invited a PSME (Philippine Society of Mechanical Engineers) Representative/s for EXPERT OPINION BECAUSE BOTH OF THEM ARE NOT EXPERTS!!!
P.S. HINDI LANG MOTORCYCLE BARRIER ANG PINAG-AARALAN NAMIN.
Dapat ma gamit yan sayang Kung Naka tingga Lang Para hindi masyado malaking bayarin sa meralco
All highly developed and large countries have nuclear plants. That means PH needs to build it if it wants to become one.
Sana matuloy Yan KC para. Mawala na Yung kahirapan Ng mga mmamayan. Ng Bansa
Ex Cong. Mark Cojuanco knows what he is talking about when it comes to nuclear power source, unlike the current DOE chief who is obviously favoring the present power generators as mentioned in those recent MERALCO congressional hearings re alleged anomalies in power contracts and franchises.
Is Mark Cojuangco a nuclear scientist? Is he a chemical engineer? I bet he doesn't even know that Bataan is not a safe place to build/operate a nuclear power plant that's why it was mothballed! Besides, that plant was built a long, long time ago .... Bulok na po yan ! Kahit i- repair pa yan ngayon, susceptible na yan sa terrible accidents that would give off tons of radio-activity to the environment of the country, causing horrible birth defects to babies in mothers' womb, for many years to come. Pls search na lang nyo sa internet about the CHERNOBYL nuclear power plant meltdown.
@@elizabethrosebarrieses395 its already built... and why you say its not safe? He already explained with clarity why its safe. Can you counter that?
We are already in the 21st century, and high costs of energy in the country are killing the poor ones slowly and painfully for decades. There is new and better technology in producing safe and clean nuclear energy for power and peaceful means. Nuclear fusion which combines atoms to produce energy instead of the conventional nuclear fission which splits atoms to create one that is more dangerous. They are building one in France and are in advance stages in China. We are the one who built the first nuclear power in ASEAN but never used it. Indonesia and Vietnam are considering it. We lost Sabah and North Borneo that are rich in oil. And oil and gas deposits in West Philippine sea could not be tapped due to disputes with our neighbors. Nuclear energy is the next best alternative if we want cheap and reliable source of energy to power us to modernization of industry and agriculture, ultimately for the betterment of Filipinos.
not only the NUCLEAR power plant to be build but the government should build also another TRANSMISSION LINES covering the Luzon, visayas, mindanao as of now the single transmission lines the National Grid Corporation of The Philippines (NGCP) was monopolized by the Sy Family and State Grid of China, and MERALCO which monopolized the distribution in METRO Manila, otherwise still the electricity will be costly because of this CROOK GREEDY BUSINESSMEN.
Its time for Philippines to open that BNPP to reduce our electricity payables and to accommodate the future electric comsumption of 110Millions Filipinos.
WHY NOT? MOST RICH COUNTRIES HAVE THIS KIND OF POWER PLANT. IT WILL HELP REDUCE OUR ELECTRIC BILL, WILL ATTRACT FOREIGN INVESTORS, WILL PROVIDE JOBS & OTHER OPPORTUNITIES. JUST MAKE SURE IT'S UPDATED & SERIOUSLY WELL MAINTAINED TO AVOID WHAT HAPPENED TO CHERNOBYL & FUKUSHIMA.
the technocrats or the nuclear power specialist engineers should decide if nuclear power plants or renewable energy (non-coal fired) power plants not the politicians or businessmen.
sir mark c. please dont give up, please reeducate us about nuclear
even UAE who produces oil also uses nuclear...
D battle s not n d mind of d Filipino but on d dilawan and d mainstream media, and d oligarchs..
Dr. Carlo Arcilla has a clearer explanations.
Please support nuclear power plant for better country.
More talk more action!
I wish the Philippine government will make this a public forum so the people will learn and understand the nuclear power plant which the country needed more than ever.
The moment BNP becomes operational, our electric bills will go down significantly.
I am pro nuclear power plant. There are always risks involve when we are talking about nuclear but the benefits out weigh the risk. It's a compromise that Filipinos need to take in order to progress our nation into a 1st world nation. Because if we don't then we would be forever be in shackled with the electrical companies such as Meralco. I can only imagine how it would lighten the Filipinos lives, it would bring us prosperity.
After the Chernobyl and Fukushima, nuclear powerplant safety has improved a lot by learning from past mistakes.

It sounds promising
₱55B cost that we will have stable and cheap energy vs. ₱9T debt due to pandemic, would you neglect the long term benefits of the additional investment to run the nuclear power plant? Afterall,we already paid to construct BNPP, that can potentially create 900MWH. Nuclear energy has been proven generally safe if managed accordingly, over the decades since its existence. New type of nuclear power plant which is small and modular, can make up to 300MWH per year, designed by NUSCALE but still on its prototype phase.
Once we have that running, industry will revolutionize our lives. Galaw galaw Congressmen.
Funny how they run out of time as soon as he mentioned Rappler.
MAKE IT SAFE FOR PEOPLE!
Karen tumigil ka na your nonsense
I mean there is no point kung papatagalin pa we will going to pursue this anyway in the future why not start now...
People suffered from paying so much from their electric bills. Then cost effective alternative energy could provide hope
lets all be doers now. every lil will help, if we wantedt we can, by pass those industry's, let help those in need directly, barangays, communities, rural provinces,
non only financial, but with hearts, humility, compassion, free energy, fresh air, free mind, World human Equality.
God bless he's Gods People Filipino's
Looks promising! I'm no DDS but I'll be grateful to Duterte if he can pass this nuclear energy project.
What I like about his defense is it was supported by documents and studies, which is hard to find with politicians now a days.
Why are we scared? We need to evolve to survive!
High Efficiency
We are just stupid and closed minded folks that's why we are still arguing about the operation of something that will help us progress ! Just like our previous president said " Solar ! Paano pag walang araw? Wind turbine ? Paano pag walang hangin ? ... we can't be too surprised that most Filipino still has poor understanding on anything that would benefit us
yes to BNPP
There were fatalities in Fukishima Nuclear plant that was not mentioned. BNPP according to Mark was complete, why do you need 1.15 billion dollars to rehabilitate it? Why don't you build 2 of the newest nuclear plants like what they were building in the Middle East 1000 MW each and/or the small modular nuclear reactors ? Can the government afford building these plants or we need private investors to build and run them under strick compliance from the Philippine government like USNRC? Hopefully there will be no corruption in running these nuclear plants.
Go ahead operate the nuc.plant.
It will take strong political guts to invest into nuclear power in the midst of Covid19. In my view, we must take that risk.
Cong Mark lead the push for the revival and rehabilitation of BNPP you have our support.

May or may not have maintenance capabilities..who knows, maybe this time this will be a big break for our country. We'll jus t have to be hopeful for the betterment of our country and our future.
Besides, for sure they have considered already and thought about the maintenance, risks, engineering control, PMS, and sp forth. They would not push this through if they cant make it happen. Resources should just be put to the future of energy, that is renewable energy (solar, wind, biomass, etc.). The prices of these energy have significantly gone down, so nuclear doesn't make sense now considering the potential risks involved and maintenance. Let's just move on and better think long term
U wont use the full capacity of those renewable energy because solar and wind are not even available 24/7 unlike nuclear plant and is already proven safe😂
Solar and wind are not sustainable! Making solar panels aren't environmentally friendly and wind as well. There's an actual scientist who actually is against these so called "renewable" energy you speak of is cause they're not truly renewable nor clean. With solar panels after 15 years you'd need to replace or refurbish them because they can rot and its leaks can damage further the environment.
Seriously not safe? USA has 58 nuclear power plants in 29 states. Link: www.eia.gov/energyexplained/nuclear/nuclear-power-plants.php

Good day Cong. Mark Cojuangco. If Single Modular Reactor is safe and available in the market, why is it that NOT ONE ASEAN countries ever thought of buying one? What do you think is their MAJOR CONCERN? Thanks.
its NOT YET available are you even watching.. It's still under certification in the US.. but study have already prove it to be promising it almost runs in minimal human intervention thus less human error and the containment due to its small size, is very easy and post no harm at all in case of a uncontrolled chain reaction. Contrary to your statement numerous asian nation already showed interest in the project.
The radiation of nuclear power plant is very high risk in health, example the chernobyl power plant explosion.
Tulad nga nung nasa vid. Walang containment ung chernobyl. Bakit nsi nila nilagyan? Kasi nagtipid sila masyado. Ano nakuha nila?
