The Philippines has high potential right now without even one of these nuclear power plants. How much more, if we have them? So for me, as a Filipino, I want my countrymen and my children and future grandchildren to live better lives, not abroad but in my own beautiful country, the Philippines, so yes to the nuclear power plant.

We should listen to cojuangco. He is a statesman in the making. His only dream is to see the Filipinos be given the chance to compete internationally. Cheap energy means competitive agriculture, competitive manufacturing, lower unit cost, cheap household utility bills, bigger exports and creation of tens of millions of jobs. Cojuangco for the past decade was a lone voice in the wilderness in promoting nuclear energy. He was right and still is today. His legacy is his vision to achieve energy security for the Philippines.

it's a very scary prospect if the philippines is planning to commission a facility that was designed over 50 years ago and mothballed for the last 40 years - if the plant had been operating since completion in 1984, it would now be scheduled to be decommissioned.
wonder if there's been a detailed assessment of concrete condition - suspect that the sensible route would be to write off the previous spend and build a new plant to safety standards applicable nowadays.

With the rising cost of energy in our country and cutting deep into the household budget of most Filipino families and, economically, rendering the country less competitive in attracting foreign investment on energy-intensive industries , it makes sense this time that we consider utilizing nuclear-powered plants as part of the mix in our existing fossil fuel-powered plants in the generation of electricity. With right and relevant information on operating a nuclear-powered plant, unsatisfied safety issues in the past during the completion of the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant can now be addressed confidently and authoritatively to the people by the Government through a team of UN-recognized and duly-certified engineers and scientists. The good news about it is we have Filipino engineers and scientists that are competent and capable to operate such power plants safely! After safety issues being addressed, I think the next issue to be addressed that Congress will need is supplier or suppliers for the plant building materials including the contractor to maintain the safe operation of the plant and equipment, and the supplier or suppliers of nuclear fuel rods including the contractor for the safe disposal of nuclear waste materials. I think the choice of supplier or suppliers of nuclear fuel rods are the most important aspect of the decision as it entails the cost-effective benefit for the country over the long term. With just 55 cents per kilowatt electric generation cost using nuclear fuel (which I just learned here from Congressman Mark Cojuangco) compared to the present more than 1,000 cents per kilowatt using fossil fuel, this is truly a no brainer for Juan dela Cruz or Pedro Ayala to know which kind of fuel gives them big savings! coal to heat the water on boiler to produce steam to run the steam turbine to rotate the generator to produce electric power. The real problem the fuel
to boil water to produce an steam that steam is the one to rotate the prime mover of our generator to produce an electricity to transport into factories, household,so then the nuclear fuel is the cheapest fuel to boil water to

In the event of uncontrolled nuclear fission or nuclear chain reaction accident, there is no 100% fail-safe system that will be able to prevent core melt-down and subsequent blowing-up of the pressurized system. Most independent safety consultants still view the Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) system design a risky solution to power generation. In addition, there is no suitable solution to the problem of nuclear waste disposal.
Let us remember the accidents that occurred at the Thre-Mile island USA, Chornobyl Russia and Fukushima in Japan, these nuclear power plants incorporated redundant safety measures and were guaranteed to be fail-safe in their design.
Y E S !!! I agree with the opening and operation of the mothballed Bataan Nuclear Plant but ....... we will not use Uranium, a highly radioactive and dangerous material as fuel. tweet: Which one is better, a Nuclear Power Plant or Hydropower for nationwide electricity? Which plant is less dangerous to operate and cost effective to operate every day, do you think? I would cast my vote for Hydropower Plant vs. Nuclear. Let's get it done and stop procrastinating, Mr. President and cabinet. Godspeed. sep2022.

I prefer mix energy sources, nuclear power plants (new generation) as base load and small capacity hydro as regulating reserves plus renewables. Operate natural gas plant when sometimes they are cheaper on the market and keep some of those green coal plant. NPP has lower operating cost compared to fossil fuels, dyan nga siya bumabawi sa direct cost of costruction. It has high capacity not affected by season available 24 x 7. Yeah it is dangerous and requires strict regulatory body and competent personnel. Hydro is cheap, natural and flexible but capacity is limited by season( summer) and weather patterns. Dam construction affects eco system, indigenous tribes and irrigation.
Mindanao has lots of hydro plants unfortunately, the submarine cable connecting grid visayas and to mindanao is not yet there. Luzon is connected to Leyte geothermal.
We need to reduce our fossil import and with the fall of the peso its not gonna help. We are an island at marami tayong renewables at para magamit yan mag invest sa transmission infra.

Reply to @@beauxarts4110 -- "Mindanao has lots of hydro plants unfortunately, the submarine cable connecting grid visayas and to mindanao is not yet there. Luzon is connected to Leyte geothermal." Response: I would expand the already existing Hydropower Plants you said are already in Mindanao today. The gov't should look more closely into modernizing it, so that electric power is evenly distributed to all 3-regions and not a lack thereof. Earth would never run out of water (H20) if it dries up below, more supply comes to us naturally from above our head -- all year around in your neck of the woods. Philippines has always had a tropical weather, and downpours are expected to come almost each year, which often than not causes flooding. I would still highly recommend the Hydropower Plant at this time for your Islands. It's so much cheaper and safer to operate compared to crude oil, which would ultimately dried up with zero chance of renewing it. Mr. Marcos should be able to handle this project. Dams won't be a threat to Ecosystem -- as water goes back to sea by nature. be blessed. oct2022.

@@merrileeleonard6372But, Hydro plants won't be able to support the grid demand during summer as generator output will be low, and during weather disturbance such as el ninyo which the country experienced in 2013. As what Europe is goin on now severe drough. You will still need to run coal or gas plant for that.
Dams is a treat to ecosystem from soil erosion, permanent flooding, animal migration. They moved Abu Simbal in egypt from its orig place which is now fully submerged due to construction of a dam in the river Nile in the 60's.

i look at the different nuclear power plant in the midwestern area in minnesota and and cooper nuclear power plant in nebraska so far it is safe to operate. the only concern is the spent fuel where it will be stored. accident happens just like the 3 mile island in pennsylvania but it is controllable no like in russia that is different design
