Oh Happy Jade Day 😍😍😍 Wow the Oak Leaf is Gorgeous that he carves!!! His carving is So Beautiful 🤩 I’m definitely checking out his Jade shop!!! Thank you Dave Such a Bless One!!! 😍🤩🦋🌺🌴🐊
Shane’s a cool dude, I have learned a LOT from him! So glad to see him being celebrated for his work. I picked up a pair of earrings from him in Tucson this year and I’m obsessed. Great video!!
Shane knows his stuff and he dose some very nice carvings. I allso love green and just did my first cut carved and polished a piece of Chrysoprase some know as Australian Jade from Maryborough QLD green apple 🍏 colour I plan to do more and I allso use bamboo skewers and even toothpicks to polish carvings. You can tell Shane loves it "Jade stone"and I can appreciate the work carving takes 40hrs on a stone "1 stone" melts away when you love what your doing. Cheers guys this was great 👍 thanks.
That oak leaf is insane!! Thank you for the great content as always. It was fantastic to run into you and Sprite in the Holidome parking lot. I hope you make that interview with the Castilian miners in New Mexico, that’ll be fascinating.
What a great video, Dave! I remember Shane at the Bead store in Steven's Point WI. I had my Bead Store in Galena, IL, Galena Beads at the time. I purchased several items with the assistance of a very knowledgeable boy working there. It's amazing how he took his knowledge and now has his Jade Co. You two are so much alike in that way. Jade is found in several locations in California. Big Sur, Victorville, Joshua Tree, Napa Valley Mountains stream beds, just to name a few. Dave, did Shane have any Jade from Wisconsin? Yes, it's there too!
That was a Jade feast....a talented carver there. My sons' name, Jade. Thank you for filming, great job.....will try and come to Tucson, maybe next year [no jab]
Damn Dave we will make you a jade head yet. Your heart and soul is turquoise and your head will be jade my guy. I hope you can make it to the big sur jade fest. Im gonna try to hit both that and Monterey.
@@lapidarydave living the dream man. one piece of advice is go with the grain and if you use a dremel fordrom carve the direction its spinning. its a hard material but I believe you will master it. one day I hope to do it myself. you can get crazy creative with it.
Hetian or Hotan nephrite, is from Kunlun mountains in China but much is mined from Qingdao and also labeled as Hetian to increase prices. Nowadays, any sort of nephrite with physical resemblance to Hetian mutton fat nephrite is labeled as such even though it may actually be mined in Korea, Russia, etc
Im pretty sure that old piece of Vesuvianite labeled "Trinity" is referring to and from Trinity County California. I'm up in southern Humboldt and I'm gonna send you guys some pics in a day or two. I've been rockhounding my whole life and cutting for almost 30 years now and I think you guys will be very interested in seeing what I've been up to the past 7 years. 😉
Thanks for covering jade LD. Nice stuff, a little over priced though. Bangle centers from Thailand (Burmese) can be had for less than $20, and great quality Indo for $30lb. BTW jadeite is neither actinolite or tremolite amphibole, its a pyroxene. As nice as this guy is, he's spreading some .......
I don’t generally comment on people’s comments. As a jade carver for over 12 years, I can tell you that Shane’s prices are right on track if not a little low on some of the pieces. I was there on the second day of the show and reviewed his material. All very good quality, all with tight felting providing excellent carving material. Well worth his prices. I bought some while I was there, and the year before that.
Like most things in life. You get what you pay for. If your happy with low quality junk that’s great. I’ll stick to A grade hi quality, it may cost a little more but it’s worth it in the end. To each his own.
Shane's reply to Dave was about Nephrite Jade, not Jadeite. (at 4:35) He is correct. Also, there are elements in Nephrite Jade Calcium, Magnesium. Tremolite and Actinolite are iron rich amphibole minerals. Please refrain from bashing LD's content and practice LD's community guidelines. Shane's prices are not over-priced at all.
@@nathans.3751 i’m the video we were talking about jade folks commenting about how the video would be wrong about one thing or another 😂 thanks for watching and thanks for supporting shane It’s not just his fantastic arts that we cannot appreciate and understand the prices but it’s also his eye can you imagine how much Jade he has at the house that he doesn’t bring to the show because it’s not up to par thanks again for supporting Shane will be a lot of people who disagree with him, but we all know he is a total Jade beast. I really appreciate you nathan.
Just try to cut a small agate in half with a Dremel. Jade carving is an incredibly zen exercise in patience. I collect surf tumbled jade on the NorCal coast. I stick to simply hand and Dremel polishing, it can take days to get a solid polish on a 1 gram piece. Carving? Someday maybe...P.S. Don't let anyone tell you CA. nephrite is inferior or that there is no jadeite here. Send them my way.
@@lapidarydave nefrite it's more common jadeite more rare, when polish way better than nefrite,, I just don't like nefrite, my collection it's all about jadeite the best
Nephrite is greek and jade is spanish for the kidney area, also because of the kidney shape of the stone was thought to heal the kidney by the Greeks Nephritis, as well as by the Olmec then Aztec and later the Ute with Turquoise, and prior to the Jadeite discovery in Burma in the 1800's all Jade in history was Nephrite, In fact, is Jadeite really even Jade or an all together different "Gem" stone. They can form in the same deposit but under vary different conditions they form in my formation the nephrite formed near the surface and the jadeite form deeper under the back pressures created by the surface formation of jade, rose quartz from grains of sand,, k=spar, magnetite crystals, etc.
