Absolutely stunning!!! Opal is by far my favourite gemstone, I just love how each and every stone is unique and one of a kind. Such an amazing display, that black crystal Opal is shockingly beautiful. The way it’s been carved is just mesmerising.
What a great video Dave. I really appreciate the content you upload, as I don’t live close to any of the gem shows you visit. I am in Omaha and we just don’t have these shows, I wish we did because I’d absolutely visit this guys booth and get to know him. I need a good trustworthy source of Opal rough, and considering g the amount of news I hear about internet Opal scams it just makes it so difficult to order anything. I am going to reach out to this guy most definitely. He seems like a really decent down to earth person that someone can trust.
Gorgeous! I'm so happy to see that more and more, people, and hopefully sellers - are getting to the point where honesty will prevail and "rare" will be used correctly soon. Opal is NOT rare, but can be labor intensive to mine, certainly. The gouging will slow down soon, we hope! The river of opal in Africa, for example, is NOT going to run out in any of the next many centuries. I can't wait intil "rare" refers to good lapidary work/cutting so as to be more aligned with the facts! Opal is beloved, and it will never be boring or overused. Thanks for a great channel!
Dave! It was an incredible pleasure to meet you for the first time in person after following you for years just after you filmed this show! I look forward to many more videos and seeing you at a show in the future! Thank you for all you do!
Hiya Dave, awesome video my friend. I wish I could get a opal from you. I would trade a different kind of opal with you. But the kind I have is palm wood and it's not stable. I have tried to stabilize it, but it doesn't really work and I need to find a better way to stabilize it. I hope you and your Grandmother has a awesome blessed day. Cya! 😺🐟 out!
Oh and Dave I just use Roys Rocks slow drying method on the water opal and they dry just fine from personal experience. Just gotta leave em in the baggie for longer than the Welo. I'm the Michael that always messages your Facebook about opal and Roy if u ever have any questions on how to work the water opal. Those people and most people aren't hip that you can actually work that material. We've been the first to actually do it successfully on a consistent basis. Water Opal is dirt cheap too for the color at a few dollars a gram. So yeah next time be like Fire Agate Mark and grab a piece of water opal too. I taught Mark how to work the water opal already.
@@gluehuff43 yeah I've dried a few water opal now and all my Welo have turned out perfect slow drying. Even did a Shewa Opal successfully slow dried. Stuff is so cheap that you mine as well budget lapidary wise. I love carving my local shows Ethiopian Opal and Fire Agate Mark old school high grade rough I grabbed up awhile back. Pretty sure Mark has some decent high grade fire agate rough still.
I bought a string of opals they are clear but the flash is there but it does not have all the sheen that your. Opals have. They are clear but with some sheen. It was 60.00 ,6 to 8. Graduated. Is it a true opal?
they are in there not at the same time you get them in front of the right people and they fight over at the Tucson. Gemshow isn’t usually catered towards people with finer tastes. It’s nickel dime honestly and for people who want to supply their mom and Pop rock shop, there are specialty shows that the public aren’t invited to during the event but when you get those types of rings in front of an audience at a dedicated Opal show, that’s when they really shine
belt sanders for the most part don’t use the right type of abrasives long story short they do make diamond and silicon carbide belts that fit traditional sized belt sander and you could figure out a simple watering system to clean the belt cool the stone and keep fit down
Here's that Ethiopian Opal carve I was telling you about Roy did. I sent him that material from my local Ohio gem and mineral shows. ua-cam.com/video/yGqxP1BNOTQ/v-deo.html
do not cut dry. ever! cut wet, if it cracks then its not worth setting in the first place, only cut dry if you are suicidal and want a very slow horrible death.
For the price was the point I’ve seen world-class boulder opal, and I have some great multi thousand dollar pieces in my collection but for the price please regret that’s what I was saying

It really depends on the type of opal, also where its from factors in to the price pretty heavily
Beautiful opals! There are kinds of opals here I have never heard of before
Those opals are beautiful. Especially that one in the beginning of the video.
Rewatching some of your streams while I study! Thanks for keeping me company! 😀

Have you had any long term success with this method? I'd be curious to learn more. Cheers

Theyre proably genuine. As a general rule they're not making beads out of good opal. Usually the cuts or fine tailings. My experience.
Which video has the Pineapple opals?
I assume these are a tough sale. Not too many with disposable cash like that.

what is the name of that dealer who is selling the water opal by 3$ per gramm (rough one)
Which show are you at?

Porque el Opal tiene precio muy alto?
Is Adam still doing the lucky scoop
i don’t think so
i remember that a few years ago
Black history and real time
most sugar enhanced opals
How much does a large opal cost
not for sale only 8 have ever been found
do not cut dry. ever! cut wet, if it cracks then its not worth setting in the first place, only cut dry if you are suicidal and want a very slow horrible death.
If they are the best Boulder Opal you have ever seen then you haven’t seen much Boulder. They were junk. A top Boulder Opal looks as good as LR black
