Shocked how popular the Dog Man books were. I never read them as I was a Captain Underpants person as a kid and was obsessed those books. I even forgot Dog Man is set in the same universe. I might m watch the movie now 😂
There were two straight guys in my row during ‘Companion,’ and they were laughing and the most engaged in the theater. Unrelated, they showed the ‘Thunderbolts*’ trailer instead of Cap 4 during my showing, and I do hope they make a new one for the superbowl bc that trailer didn’t excite me and I’m a MCU stan.
48 YO gay male went to see Companion this weekend. Great movie. I was a bit lost at first, but the cast was a ton of fun. I went to see for Jack Quaid. I left totally happy and would love a sequel or some kind of universe expanding spinoff. I DO wish the cast was a bit larger and we had a gal with a male "companion" to balance it out more as it did feel like "men are scum" the way it played out. *****I am confused why this and Presence are being listed as HORROR when, IMO, they are more thrillers.
Dreamsworks is outsourcing their animation because it’s cheaper. However, outsourcing to other countries is hurting the animation industry in the USA greatly. Some people haven’t had work in a year.

Americans have been outsourcing their animation to Asia since the 50's. Western animation is basically Eastern animation 2.0
Universal trying to do more family friendly things while Disney trying to do more adult movies, yet Grace just pretended Universal modern horror debacle never existed.
Family pics and horror movies made on a reasonable budget is where movie theaters needs to push for. Dogman's going to be very profitable even though it won't make near what Mufasa does.
I would get a popcorn cat bowl if Puss N Boots had one! That’s one of my cats favorite movies, and she actually watches the tv when the opening sequence comes on with all the cats dancing and scratching their litter boxes! This is great marketing! And yes I would use it in the theater and then give it to my cat as a gift! We all love our pets! They are family!
So excited for Invincible season 3! It’s one of my absolute favorite shows! The story to me is so much more interesting than The Boys. Haven’t read the comic run because I just want to experience the story unfold in the show.
Max is too expensive and Disney doesn’t have enough diverse content. Everyone is just splitting hairs and jumping platform as needed…the way it should be.
I feel like Companion is going to end up being like Jennifer's Body where it doesn't do well but finds its strong female and lgbtq audience after it comes out and becomes a cult classic
Due to the horrible Companion marketing decisions to choose spoiling the movie surprises both from the trailers and the freaking poster is definitely to blame in the lower box office opening. I mean the team behind cutting the trailer and hinting at the reveal in the poster somebody should get fired.
Universal has many animation franchises, but most of them aren't huge enough to compete with Disney's... Frozen Inside Out Toy Story The Lion King Incredibles Finding Nemo Moana Zootopia All the major Disney/Pixar franchises consist of at least one 1B+ film! Universal should put more effort in their franchises!
Dog Man is one of those animated movies that I'm now referring to as 2.5D. A 3D film that's trying to mimic 2D animation. And, we all have Into the Spiderverse to thank for that.

The trailer for Companion was really good and got me ready to see it. Sophie Thatcher was the icing on the cake. I love it, so good. It was a great double bill with Dog Man.
When you look at Companion does it screams "Guys nite out" that poster was very feminine and also the ad campaign has been feminine. Its kind of bro repellent. Bropellent
19:44 we subscribe to Netflix, the Disney/Hulu/Max bundle, prime, Apple TV+, paramount, and peacock. We probably spend half of our time watching Netflix, and then evenly split between the rest.
Will Disney show a Snow White trailer at the super bowl? Will we see any marketing for it at all? It's soon to be released unless they change their mind, scrap it and take a tax write of instead.
It's over a month and half away. They released 2 trailers and official posters. Disney ought to not have overspend their marketing budget when cap 4 is merely 2 weeks away. Plenty of time to market it
Hi Grace, as I watched I thought of how much work you are constantlyyy doing. Always the professional but with a warm heart (taking in angles from the perspective of SO many people, jobs, cultures the LGBTQIA+ etc) I really hope this reaches you. A simple Thank you, for all that you put into your work. No-one can deny your passion and dedication. I hope you have a great week ahead.
horizon at number 1 just shows that netflix is always gonna stop the streaming list no matter what they can make a movie that just a black screen for an 1 and a half and it will still be the most viewed
I think Universal made a huge mistake not investing in a strong deal for all Nintendo's IPs (Plus subsidiaries: Pokemon, Kirby, Fire Emblem, etc.), since Nintendo rivals Disney in terms of positioning their brands on the market. From merch to a much bigger media, videogames.
Speaking of controversy, Will be in interesting to see if Captian America, Brave new world's box office will be impacted at all in Canada, Mexico and China, following the tarriffs the US has put on these countries. There are already threats of boycots of american goods in all 3. Will the audiance also boycott this movie for its name alone , if yes will it have an enough of an impact? Ironic that poltical issues around Captian America could become a headache for Disney both at home and abroad.
Remember that the Canada box office is counted as part of the US box office. But I could see Mexico and China being affected, especially since China has a lot of movies that just came out that will take screens away from Cap 4.
Actually preferred the “American Primeval” series to “Horizon.” It certainly told a tighter story, had more complex villains, & was more balanced with its indigenous portrayals.
Silo is so good. My wife and I found it randomly and binged it. Apple has a few of those projects that need more attention. Black Bird was also fantastic.
As always Great breakdown of the weeks Box office/viewing numbers Grace , your comment about the Oscars has me wondering if Conclave and Wicked are gonna cleanup this year , enjoy the rest of your evening and the Week Ms. Randolph 😉
It feels weird to put paw patrol and content like cptn underpants in the same group. Paw patrol feels like a show for toddlers and infants. They teach you about basic social skills and feelings. On the other hand the other kids content has jokes, pranks, and a few potty mouth words. Like Pre-K vs elementary.
@marcmartens4831 have u seen any youtubers that review stuff, do it like how Grace does it? Countdown, chart, analytics, etc. There's none. She's the only 1
I was recently ghosted by Universal after 4 rounds of interviews and a project through the holidays beginning right before Thanksgiving and going past New Years!! Good for them I guess 😒
I wonder if Disney+ completely merged with Hulu and rebranded as Star, it might be a more serious competitor to Netflix. Perhaps the Disney brand is seen as too geared towards families and kids.
@ Depends on how front loaded it is. Movies in China are notoriously front loaded (though this one is so dominant that I think they might leave it in theaters as long as possible).
I, personally, have no interest in seeing it right now. I just don't have the "need to know where this is going" feeling I had with Winter Soldier and Civil War. Civil War also had the benefit of almost being a full-on Avengers movie in all but name. Ain't no way this film is gonna generate anywhere near that excitement.
I mean its international appeal likely hasn’t been effected at all by Mackies comments, if anything it might have been bolstered slightly given the US’s public image ‘changes’ in the world right now. But thats if it had appeal to begin with 🤷🏼♂️ its budget certainly isnt making it easy to be a success.
@MamaSymphonia would you have been interested in it if it was rated r like D&W. I think the problem is the Disney formula and the movies not being connected to anything.
I love Landman. As long as the writing is good, it can run as long as it wants. Billy Bob Thornton is great in this role. Horizon was ok. The way it's cut and pacing is a little weird. It will probably work better seeing the episodes back-to-back. Silo is a giant thumbs up. Love the show. Can't wait to see future seasons even though I know how it plays out. I sign up every year to Apple + to watch Silo, then drop my subscription.
Dudes nowadays are looking for any reason to be mad at something, and content creators know this and feed into it...Grace included....then she turns around and gets perplexed as to why guys are toxic towards her or things she likes
After Dog Man if I were Universal or DreamWorks I’d be calling Big Idea and Kingstone to acquire the Larryboy movie coming out next year, cause if Dog Man is this big imagine how big the Larryboy movie could be.
Watching my little nephew clapping and laughing at dog man was what made it a good experience for me. A charming movie.
As a teacher, it doesn't surprise me that Dogman was #1. It's a super popular book series in schools especially in elementary schools.
I was part of the Companion audience score! They were outside my theater again like Wolf Man!
Bummer Companion didn't do better. Saw yesterday and really enjoyed.
It will get it's money in weeks ahead
Shocked how popular the Dog Man books were. I never read them as I was a Captain Underpants person as a kid and was obsessed those books.

Agreed. I think labeling this as a horror movie is inaccurate. I would describe it more as a sci-fi romantic thriller.
I mean, if “men are scum” is the message and guys are being snowflakes about it, maybe the incel call is coming from inside the house.

Excellent coverage in the industry Grace.
The under 25 low score from men for Companion is just indicative that maybe they need to grow up a bit lol
Hiii everyone may you have a safe n successful week 🎉 good vibes no matter what lies ahead
I'm sure Pete Davidson is gonna be pretty popular with single moms and their kids! 😺😂

Went to dog man with my son. Fell asleep during it. Just wasn't as good as like a puss in boots, Shrek, or wild robot
The trailer for Companion was really good and got me ready to see it. Sophie Thatcher was the icing on the cake. I love it, so good. It was a great double bill with Dog Man.

My goodness, Jan & Feb is GRIM. Where are all the good movies at???
I think Dogman is particularly impressive given the budget.

Sophie thatcher and jack Quaid are already the stars of 2025
Movie Math = Best Math!
Silo is awful, i'm sorry
That male under 25 audience score is... concerning
Grace, I feel Landman is Friday Nights Light with Oil instead of Football. The music and camera angles are very similar. I think that was his pitch.
I enjoyed the film. However, the film doesnt want to go there about ai and gender politics and relationships
Wow the movie math begins with the number 1 on the box office in the beginning wow
invincible next week
no damn mid season break
stopped momentum and interest
I think C.A.P 4 is gonna underperform. Especially after Anthony Mackie's comments. It's 2023 all over again for Marvel. February needs a hit.
