Celine Jewell in high school I struggled through one or two like Shining and something else. I swore I would never read such boring rubbish again. In the Shining, there are several chapters just describing the resumes of the characters... all random boring crap. Then I read Harry Potter and learned what an inspired story feels like.
The interviewer is right... I was given "The Dead Zone" at age 20, devoured it, then read "Firestarter" immediately after that, and was hooked for life... although I didn't fall ecstatically in love with SK until after I read "The Stand"... The Dark Tower novels were like getting another HUGE dessert at the end of an enormous meal... or finding out that Christmas has come around a second time in a year....
I agree that 11-22-63 is my favorite as well, but I am a Constant Reader and love Stephen King's short stories too so I am super excited to get this tomorrow.
Steven is the king of authors. Thats it! I think no other author has had their books made into movies and have them be guys and memorable! He goes from horror to sci fi to almost any where and people remember them. When he passes way (for forbid any time Soon) people will see him as a legend above all modern authors.
My older brother introduced the film version of Salem's Lot to me as my first horror experience when I was 9 or 10 (I saw it on HBO) as I was too young when the movie came out to watch it at the theatre. It scared the s---t out of me! It didn't help that I grew up in a community where my friends & I traveled to each other's houses using a golf course where we then knocked on each other's bedroom windows when we wanted to hang out with one another. Because of my brother (who was almost 4 yrs older to me where we were very close as latchkey kids; he was killed in an auto accident in '89) I came to love horror movies ever since I saw Salem's Lot despite how terrified I was...especially thrillers; but to this day I'm still scared to see or read Salem's Lot again. I know I was really young when I saw it but I'm sure there's validity in this fear since I haven't been that horrified since! Props to Stephen King for the experience though!
King said he wanted her to be his when she reads his novel. Well, how true is that :) I mean who woudn't? She's lovely. Btw. King is hitting on her just a little with all those metaphors and hints here and there;)
Stephen King is a standard paid-by-the-word writer who writes for hours each day without any care for being inspired at all. You can always tell an inspired story (like Harry Potter) versus the boring, rambling crap that King spews out to keep the dollars flowing. Same for movies, art, and music.... boredom versus excitement indicates uninspired versus inspired creation.
I like King's novels but his short stories are on another level.
Agree
The Last Rung on the Ladder might be my favorite piece of writing ever
I read Christine aged 9 and I was hooked ...but he truly is the master of short stories.
I just finished reading "The Bazaar of Bad Dreams." It was so good I read it twice.
He's so precious. ^_^ How could anyone dislike him?
He's officially the ugliest creep on the planet.
Yappy Raccoon I don't think he's good looking. I think he'd be a fun Grandpa. lol
ANoteToSelf
If I had kids, I would keep them very far away from that monster.
+Yappy Raccoon Have you read his books?

Ikr?! I got my first taste of King's writing by reading The Shining, and now I'm totally addicted! I'm currently diving into It and 11/22/63

He writes to fill in words and make money. That's why his stuff is the same boring, rambling crap.

@@YappyRaccoon At the very bone that’s basically the job of an author lmfao...

There's a movie called .you can't kill Stephen king. . Its a funny slasher flick .. and who knows you may see the man himself.

I loved the short story with the "car" that chows down on good samaritans. Reminded me a little of The Raft, but not so gory!
Mile 81 great story.

Yeah, and the thing scarrier than any horror novel is the fact that we'll all get old.
