WIKI GUIDES: Phosani's Nightmare (OSRS)

- For long time people have been asking me "What is good at XYZ?" and I can't tell them to just look at the Wiki for advice because it is SO bad and even the Gear Discords don't keep up with content and new meta changes quickly. Just peaking at what the Wiki currently had for a couple bosses I realized how HORRIBLE they are and in a funny way. I decided to do a little mini series with me completing the bosses the way the wiki "thinks" it should be completed with.
With the new tool Gearscape.net I think the wiki is pretty obsolete and there are so many tools within this website/calculator etc that we can throw the Wiki in the trash as far as gear setups go. (I still think the info on the Wiki is accurate and is quite good otherwise for info).
Let me know what you think or any setups you wanna see in the comments!

The monkey setup got Bass, and the wiki got Runite Ore, meaning the wiki setup had better gp/hr
You can one shot the parasite with mace spec. But you need strength bonus and you have none lmaoo😂. Good video idea
these charts are a very good starting point to go off, saying this as a person who started playing a year~ ago and these charts helped me out a lot in figuring out what gear to work towards, as i dont even know what geear exists in the game. obviously as i came to content harder than jad i started to use dps calcs to go fact check setups and find cheaper/better alternatives, but i still occasionally check those charts to see if i missed something. what im trying to say is: these charts are good as an inspiration, not guides
Wiki is def just alternatives for any slots you've been unlucky in-- for Irons, mainly.
Veracs ring of suffering give prayer bonus which does help for longevity of phosani. But yeah they are closer to useless
Pros has a better bonus
I don’t think you’re exactly meant to use the chart like that lol but this is good content
This will be a FIRE series. Please continue with them!!
I feel like the downgrade charts aren't exactly awful, but do omit a lot of extra needed context. Although those that do need context do typically include a small footnote about that.
Although the fact they recommend a dwarven helm as the lowest gear over a Neitznot is questionable.
nah a lot of them are just vibes based and obviously have not been double checked with a dps calc and actually tested out. Just clicking on a random page, for basilisk knights they mention full inquisitor as bis? You'll get shredded by their melee attacks. It's obvious whoever put this there has never tested it at all.
@@XxSupaBAMxX uh, full inq is absolutely bis @ bask knights
@@XxSupaBAMxX ugh awkward moment when they do not shred you. Not sure if you maybe were thinking of another creature. Also reminder to bring the required items to kill slayer creatures, and others alike.
@@PyroManya77 they do though, I have tried it. Your trips will be short since they will hit you with melee
@@XxSupaBAMxX Their max hit is a 20. Should be able to do around 8 prayer potions per trip. I think you might be reading the wiki wrong. Even in the guide it says ranged is the strongest. Inquisitor will still be BIS for melee.
Please make this a regular series, this is amazing. I want to see you do everything like this
Sir I think you forgot that the infernal cape you used costs at least 200m for most players... Not exactly a "budget" setup :/
this one is funny! gj
lol shits more like 500-900m for the average player
Phosani in a nutshell: oh its bass.
Bass ain't bad, it means you get to stay for a couple more kills and camp full health :)
I wonder if a blurb about how to gear would be far more effective than a chart like that. For phosani specifically, it could mention that crush accuracy and strength bonus is important, your defense doesn't matter, prayer bonus is nice, and the damage thresholds for 1 shots are important. Then for totems mention that magic damage is important, but accuracy is useless.
It already does exactly that just below the chart
It mentions that
Yeah he's just completely ignoring the context provided by the article.
Wonderful series idea, loved it.
Damn, great vid man. Gonna sub after that!
the trying to how much you can beat the original time with same budget really makes the concept interesting, cool vid
Its always surprising to me how much people think gear is end all be all, when clearly skill and experience can make up for a lot!
Nightmare\PN is prob my fav boss, but with the worst drop table i've ever seen. Need that update asap. Sick vid dude.
Great series idea!
Was the veracs suggested for the prayer bonus?
Yes
Look at that power creep. Veracs dead now smh…
veracs buff incoming dual wield
panic buy now
Shoutout to GearScape and its amazing creator!
I like that for gear, but I think the thing I use the wiki page for most is my iron man. I like knowing what's second BIS, even specifically at PNM (never got a bludgeon). maybe they could make one for irons that takes collection log data to suggest gear?
For those wanting to know: the first boss OST is from "Hollowknight:" track "Mantis lords"
I knew it was from hollowknight, i couldnt figure out what boss lol
This premise is good. Do this for more messed up wiki monsters
this is a great series
wiki recommends dwarven helmet only when using the zammy hasta for crush. That's why it's in a separate column
bro legit making shit up thats wild
Then why are scythe and avernic in the same column? Is there a secret 3-handed tech I don't know about?
no it doesnt work like that =D
@@astrosurfer bro hasn’t even added his avernic to his scythe yet zzz
You remember when your parents told you to think before you speak? It wasn't to be polite, it was to stop you from sounding like an idiot
This is a great idea for a series of videos. As a shitter, I'm here to see what a goat can do with trash gear
im in for the long haul of this series i think this is fucking gold
Its insane how quickly your brain thinks of solutions, the undead grasp at 14:30 200IQ
this was epic mr gno mankey
Pls do more of these.
Really fun concept for a video. Personally I prefer crappy gear struggles over efficent max gear. But that's just my taste
The live stream of this was hilarious
please next do the stratagy guide for Wispherer, i honstly dk if thats even mathimatically possiable it has "WIZARD BOOTS" on it. Bro, WIZARD BOOTS
Minimum wiki setup is 3 dps at 99 magic with no boosts/prayers. Enrage would average ~47 seconds and it takes ~80 seconds to lose 100% sanity from staying in the shadow realm. It should be doable if you trigger enrage at 100% sanity and don't take any damage during enrage. Thralls, forgotten/ancient brews, and a boost prayer would give even more leeway. That said, I'm still laughing that the minimum recommended setup includes an amulet of power, a skillcape, and a combat bracelet. Which players are getting halfway through DT2 without at least an MA1 cape and rune gloves ?
@@astrosurfer im suprised you didnt mention the Rune Thrownaxe spec weapon.
clearly the best spec weapon in the game
@@fabiopauli420 That's just for the ghost special. They're actually the second best option for that purpose behind venator bow if you're not using any other spec weapon, since they'll one-shot one full group of ghosts per spec.
You are the perfect person te ask this. In the rebalance they said vespula has a new added fire weakness of 50%. Does this mean im using harm at vesp even though the attack cycle is 1 tick longer than harm attack just like sang at akka butterfly? I hope it isnt because i cape switch after demon like everybody else and i wouldnt want to skip out on thralls at shamans and vanguards just so i can use firesurge with lick loss at vespula. My follow up question would be why add all this if it doesnt work? Is it a lower lvl thing im not seeing?
It's close to tbow but still not good, it's 3rd or 4th BIS so don't worry about it. The change is supposed to add flavor but doesn't change metas anywhere except zulrah.
@@GnomonkeyRS thank u very much!
Hilarious content 😂
I mean, the downgrade charts don't assume you downgrade everything to the minimum at the same time. If you own all max gear but just not a good helmet for example, that dwarven helmet with a crush weapon would still make slight sense. Very slight, but at least some.
13mins for regular nightmare??? nice!!!
i love this idea XD
Make this a series
blood moon is actually really good here
the website mentioned is nice, but doesn't seem to account for lightbearer? Is there any way to quantify it?
Best option is just exclude rings with strength bonus if lightbearer is good at a location, then it won't change the other gear for max hits
The dwarven helmet doing nothing lmfao
Not sure how others feel, but I’m concerned about how intense of a grind the hellhounds/farming will be. Like, it could be a series killer off episode 1.
Skipping hard grinds isn’t in the spirit of a series, but I can see this chunk causing burn out.
the best boss encounter in the game
You dont bring a rune crossbow for verzik webs?
Can an ironman use this and upload their gear to determine what's the best set up according to what items they have in their bank?
I definitely prefer this content over to the tits max gear all the time. I think this shows skill more than shaving seconds off of PBs. Only like 10% understand how ridiculous saving 8 ticks in a god run is. Hopefully im not alone.
Let see how fast we can crash orb and inquisitor prices :)
Is the hit box indicator a specific plug-in or just part of the "Tag" plugin?, i cant seem to find it.
Better NPC highlights has it, can also go through the Tag menu options

L00000000000000L "alright boys, the wiki says you can do it" LOOOOOOOOOOOL 🤣
listen Gnome. my hands are stupid and my brain is old... vice versa
yo this could actually be a pretty fun series idea
Gnomonkey completes all bosses, *Me sitting at ge flipping to 1b then wondering what to do next* bosses are scary
the hollow knight music goes hard ❤
11min kill of a crazy boss to receive bass
i dont have to use the wiki chart when i want to learn a new boss and when it gets outdated lets goooo
would help if you read the extra notes on the wiki which literally explain the reason for the downgrade suggestions. nt though
the hollow knight music is peak
Wiki is completely volunteer fan work. It has endless information that helps us. Ofc the best PVMers in the word are going to know better strats. Im pretty sure you can submit in changes..
ring of suffering gives prayer bonus :)
My favorite boss T_T
ngl this really helps prove fang can carry hard
Maracas stays on peak performance 😤😤
bruv this is how i learnt to play the game.
I thought gnomonkey was being intentionally obtuse about the recommended items chart but the end of the video made me not so sure. the dwarven helmet and fang both being the last item isn’t saying you should use them together, you’re supposed to use the leftmost item you have for each category. It’s still not great and has some mistakes, but it in no way is telling you to pair those two items together
and while that website is really cool and i’m gonna start using it, it also has some flaws. Like the difference between a 50M setup and a 100M setup for Phosani’s is it telling you to get Prims, which an algorithm might determine is the best DPS increase, but a person would tell you there are much better upgrade paths you should focus on first. Thats a flaw it shares with the wiki charts, no distinction of how important (or unimportant) each upgrade is.
I agree with the uselessness of wiki setups. A midlevel player keeps getting recommended Torva for shit like the giant mole. No shit. What does a general mid level setup look like? It could be reduced to three full sets, rather than a sliding scale. Max-Med-Min
GP value gear calc doesnt work for ironmen
hollow knight music 🗿🔥🔥
I'd actually love if the HLC slowly worked together to help better the wiki gear sets for downgraded gear, i hate when the mid tier gear suggestions are just shit for playing the iron/rebuilds
enjoyed that video you doing funny stupid stuff like this 🎉
i havent seen the website you used, but i think the wiki still might be good for ironmen, where money does not matter and you only got the gear that you have
Downgrade charts are super good for irons.
lol, why didn’t you just go to perdu or however you spell his name to reclaim the dwarven helm
sharted when i saw this in my sub box
gnomonkey forgot prayer bonus exists
gnome looks like mark proksch
I never took the charts as exact thing. They are rough guidelines, and downgrades are just that - downgrades. Also, some people actually have restricted accounts to where they can’t get tons of items a maxed main obviously can get.
Ayo flick the melle pray you bean lord
Thats the best part of the fite
shoutout to my fav pokemanz makuhita 11:39
Thats a weird looking inq mace in ur inventory
more more more
Can we appreciate some neet has gone out his way to type all this information out and put the gear setups in & Gnomonkey is like.. here's a 17 minute video on why all of that is stupid af. hahahah
Bro If I saw you running by going to phosani, insta report lol. Also p5 is like medic on steroids at toa.
Btw, now imagine using these setups without a maxed account (which anyone using this gear will not have)...
Lmao the wiki setups are something else
wiki downgrade boss series? 😂😂😂😂 luv it
I killed phosani with mole slippers blue skirt chef hat dragon mace and strength Amy. Isn't that bad tbh
whay's wrong with the strategy guide downgrade for toa? you could easily do it with the lowest downgrades available
ngl Phosani is a top tier boss. Shame the drop table is subpar.
Trident of the swamp 1 way!? 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Bro the Wiki is modded by Redditors lmao. Hilariously enough, it used to be WAYYYY worse. I was straight up banned from editing because I kept trying to add a max efficiency setup for Zulrah several years ago but they kept taking it down because it was deemed too "inaccessible" for the average player. At least nowadays they're aware that having setups for all levels of account progression is good and not just gatekeeping everything to "accessible" setups, even if many of them are not very accurate.
If more people start catching on to the GearScape tool, it basically just invalidates the Wiki's gear recommendations lmao. Now even the most obscure account build will be able to know exactly what to bring to every boss without having to rely on the Wiki's hilarious gear downgrade recommendations some of which make zero sense (like Dwarven Helm with Fang lol).
gearscape still needs some work. put in 1.3b budget and it chooses full torva with salad blade for verzik.
where my p2 verzik tumeken users at
Bellybutton fluff 🤣
Good video idea, bad call to action. These charts are good to have and are really useful for people who have pretty jank setups like ironmen. Making sure these get updated and adding more context would be a better thing to have than removing them. Zombie axe, macahuitl are both better than hasta. Putting the niche crush helm on a crush boss while using crush weapons is reasonable, and in several cases, better than Neitiznot. Fang is an unreasonable weapon that is viable in places it really shouldn't and when it was added to the chart, they didn't add a note. With the new weapons, fang wouldn't even make the chart and the note wouldn't even be needed. There's no reason to act braindead and call for the removal of something that you personally don't use or need. Most of your criticism comes into very small leaps in logic, guides on neglected content, or just things that are actually reasonable.
The inclusion of unnecessary information is what is misleading, this is far from the worst chart. The toa guide says you can downgrade to diamond bolts from ruby bolts, which are more expensive, rarer, and far worse DPS. The nex guide has a downgrade from dragon defender to elysian spirit shield, an untradable and easy to obtain better option has a DOWNGRADE to something worth 600m - 1b.
@@GnomonkeyRS you're fundamentally misunderstanding the use case for the charts. it's not "if you don't have a dragon defender, go get an elysian". It's just Defender > Elysian. So if i'm an ironman, who has had the time to get a sigil from corp, and am now going to Nex, I have a reference telling me that Elysian is useful, but sticking with the defender will be better long term.
The Ruby bolts are just another thing needing notes, not removal. In most setups, it's better to take only ruby, since you are supplementing your range with other ranged weapons like blowpipe. With lower gear, surprise surprise, you would just bring diamond bolts alongside the ruby. You can even see an example of this in the lowest gear setup example on the toa guide.
@@yuselescount2913 come on now, an iron that has gotten an ely but not a defender? That's ridiculous. The thing is that the ely is not useful, because its always beaten by an item that will be acquired in a couple weeks on any account. There is no scenario where you would ever bring it, hence the inclusion in the setup is just clutter.
@@XxSupaBAMxX bro, you need to work on that reading comprehension. And you can't think of any reason to bring worse, but tankier gear into any fight? Especially one that gives direct Damage reduction and can be used easily with any combat style? none at all?
@@yuselescount2913 for nex no, it's just strictly worse.
Omg, is hollow knight ost again. What's going on
It sure would be cool if people took the time to make the wiki guides better instead of spending that time making a video about how they’re bad.
yeah the awful wiki strategy pages have been annoying for a long time lol
pov jagex not adding enough pvm content
Wiki gearing guides are mostly bad due to them being the least effort being put into them. New gear is coming out all the time and high level pvmers will only say "use BiS"
