Straightening bent hydraulic tailgate on Stewart trailer
Вставка

- In this video i straighten a hydraulic tailgate on a Stewart trailer that had gotten twisted.
I firstly had to refit the trail gate as it had been taken off. I try using the JCB to push the tailgate straight but with no luck. After a bit of thinking i decided to use the power of its own ram to counter the twist, i put a block of wood in one side and hold the other side closed with the JCB then push the ram out to twisted it back the other way. This worked very well and got the tailgate closing again like it should.

That sort of job is mostly standing back, and giving it a good coat of looking at. 👌
One of the best channels. You deserve +200K viewers. Real world jobs. Real honest work. Make things work. Love it 😊
Hope you’re feeling better soon Ollie, thanks for the vid 👍
This reminded me of the repair of the bale chamber on a MF 701 baler 50 + years ago. The mechanic studied the job for 90 minutes, it was bent upwards and twisted but not to a uniform degree along the length of the Chamber. The MF rep who turned up said they would need it for 3 days in their workshop and quoted a kings ransom. Two oxyAcetylene sets, 5 men with crowbars, spirit levels and the baler was operating again in another 90 minutes. The only time the mechanic touched the machine was to make chalk marks where , when by whom and how much he wanted the leverage applied. The mechanic just issued orders as to who was to do what, where and when. The farmer - he still complained when the bill came in, but everyone there, knew we had witnessed craftsmanship at its best. Craftsmanship exemplified by Ollie yet again in this video .
A simple job to feck up but a cuppa and a good while contemplating how to get over it . Easy if you got a big space to bolt it down and twist it but awkward if you haven't got that option . Bloody good result easy to go to far and put the twist the other way. Hope ya feel better soon young man
Beautiful repair. Works flawlessly. Smooth as butter
Nice job Ollie, hope you feel better soon. Thanks for sharing.
Well done, the hard bit is definitely figuring out what to do .
LAnother great job done, like most jobs that haven't been tackled before, 90% inspiration and 10% perspiration.
Nice job of carefully applied force in the right direction to make the tailgate fit again. Hope you are feeling better soon.
Hi Ollie
One of those head scratching jobs , what took a moment to B up , but a decade to put right .
Oh the joys of a bent rear door on a trailer , top job as always Ollie 😂👍👍
Glad you found how to wring it the right way, I used to repair roll on roll off back doors as the drivers used to let them swing on purpose so rung the hinge's so I blocked the hinge's and pulled the back with a chain hoist. took about 20 mins lol
Hope you feel better very soon. Looking forward to next episode 😊
You figured it out after a few attempts. The rams had the power to bend the metal. They had the power to straighten it back out. Great job, Oliver.
Another really nice job there Ollie. Always hard to find how to straighten something that has twisted and there is no obvious bend to straighten. If you can see the bend, it's easy to get the gas axe on to heat it up and lever, jack or beat back into shape.
A tricky one to get your head around, once a plan is made it came together well. Thanks for sharing this weeks work job. Brian from South Yorkshire.
Great fix, good work, Oliver. 🎉
Nice one Ollie, seconds to bend stuff & a mission to sort, power of hydraulics 🙏 hope you feeling better soon.
Nicely done, Olly. Hope you feel better soon 😊👍👍👍👍👍
I had some bug had me flat on my back for better than of 3 weeks! Get well, do yer best, as ye always do, and we'll be here when ye post again. Take care & stay safe.
Thanks for bringing us along!
Good job Ollie, that type of repair is not easy.
Great video, I like the way you put everything in ( only speed up the repetitive bits) and we ( Great British work force) needs more like you, Thanks for it ! Farmers boy Cornwall!
Seems a very elaborate tailgate compared to a normal top pivot swinger. Standard tip truck arrangement. And it adds massively to the height of the trailer if you are tipping in a shed. Some engineer got carried away one day, and thought it would be a good idea.
Now that tailgate locking system is pretty unique. I like the way it works.
Nicely done, it is always a good thing to use the actual mating part when deformation has occurred. Hope you are feeling better mate 👍
Ollie Snowball: Agricultural Panel Beater & Body Repair 😉
Nice repair Ollie, hope you get well soon.
Brilliant. Excellent result, no cutting or fabrication and all wthout help.
Another great vidio, you did really well there, no cutting n shutting also when you weren't 100% too. WELL DONE👌
Get well soon, see yer on thd next one👍
Good morning, Oliver I thought for sure you were going to rebuild the tailgate, great fix! Enjoying all your videos, feel better!
Great fix hope you feel better soon 😊
Another job well done. BTW, You guys have one heck of a farming operation. Must have been fun growing up there.
Good repair, Ollie, hope you're feeling right as rain, soon!
Nicely done. No cutting/welding required.
Hey Ollie, please take some time out for yourself, some "me time" 👍 Your body & mind are telling you to slow down a bit and take a break. Men in particular are prone to just battling on and not taking their own mental health into account. Your health takes priority, work comes second so take that holiday😉
Done and dusted. Well done. That's why the customer comes to you with repeat business. You didn't ask, but I would suggest you fill your belly and get in that recliner for the day. All work and no play (or rest) makes Oliver worn out...or something like that. Take care, mate. Cheers.
Fixing bent compound items is not easy. Nice fix.
Great video. Charge for what you know not just what you do.
Never knew you had a trailer park 🤠
Hi Oliver, great vid as usual. There was a time when "You've got a snowball's chance! " meant pretty poor odds! But I've come to realise that is no longer the case! 😊👍👍👍
Well said and so true.
Man i love that Massey Ferguson. My old neighbor had one when i was little, fun memories!
Those cows were like "What the hell is this maniac doing?"🐮🐮🐮🐮🐮
Fast Food Delivery, Dad Dash style!
Claas ladder you have there. One of those fixes that needs quite some thinking. cheers.
Hi oliver😊, alot of thinking, and applied brute force got it fitting nice, well done. Look after yourself, hope you're feeling better soon mate, best wishe's to you and your's, Stuart UK.
Hi Oliver. It’s knowing where to kick something! Hope you feel better soon. Look after yourself. Until next weekend. Be Well. David
Oliver I can believe some of the jobs you do some so difficult but you always succeed. They must call you “The Fixer”.
Nice job on tailgate
First video you've ever posted without welding in it
Damn! Still beaten to the comments 😂 Ah well. Must be Sunday morning breakfast, Ollie's got a video up 😉👍
Always look forward to your videos! Thanks for keeping them coming. We need to get you more subs.
Another top result.
Take care of yourself maybe a day away Tractor pulling may revive the soul
Great job Oliver, thanks.
Spray paint the coat hook & follow the engraving with a Posca paint pen (loads of colours & nib sizes) clear coat to finish.
Nice job mate
Cheers Oli
Nice one Olly as allways😊
That was not so bad wants you knew what to do, another job tick of your list 👍 👍
I always say if you know how it works you know how to fix it that's what I do most of the time at work is my full time job fixing this that no one wants to fix.
With the coat hanger, personally, I would just get it clear coated so that it keeps that bare metal look and won’t get rusty.
get well soon like your videos.. nice seeing you figguring it out!!
1,559 👍's up SBE thank you for sharing 🤗
Another fine job! Young lad! Keep up the great content! 👌👍.. get well!!
It looks like the owner has the common habit of starting the lift THEN opening the rams which I have to admit when I was on tippers years ago was a common practice, I would put money on he did that with something hard and heavy in it more on the offside that then ran away on him and hit the offside bottom of the gate hard enough to twist it, when he collects it tell him to make sure the gate rams have ten or twelve seconds grace before he begins to lift (or on the other hand, keep shtum and have a regular earner for quiet days lol)
get well soon sunbeam keep wrapped up warm as the days get colder and sweat it out of you.
Looks more like the tailgate was shut when the load wasn’t fully out. I’m thinking tree limbs not clear on the right hand side when the tailgate was shut after tipping
It was caught on a concrete panel apparently
Great video 👌👌
Ingenious solution. 👍
Is there anything u can't repair u r unbelievable🛠️🛠️😊
I never would have known where to begin let alone how to fix it!!
Awesome Oliver, you experience using the ‘press brake’ helped you out there young man.. Hope you are feeling better soon. Kindest regards from Bonnie Scotland. Joe. PS Don’t understand why you don’t have 1million subs😵💫🤨
Nice work bud ….tricky enough in its own way
great job.thanks. see you next week l hope.
Always interesting videos 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻🇬🇧
I was going to say be careful or you will bend the rams? Good video Ollie!
Nice!
Każdą rzecz lub urządzenie da się naprawić tylko trzeba mieć właściwy pomysł jak i jakich narzędzi użyć . Wydawać się mogło że ta naprawa tylnej burty jest dość łatwa ale nie do końca . W tym przypadku prosty klocek podłożony we właściwe miejsce i dociśnięcie burty z określoną siłą przynosi pożądane efekty .Naprawa wykonana super , podziwiam twój upór w każdej naprawie , czynie masz nikogo kto pomógłby tobie?. To ciągłe wchodzenie i schodzenie z drabiny , ustawianie w właściwej pozycji wszystkich elementów jest czasochłonne i męczące. Duży szacunek dla twej pracy !😀M.K.
Thanks for the video. Look after yourself
Straying away from the usual comments, how many cattle are there on the farm?
Quick fix in p'fect Snowball Engineering style
Good job Ollie. Thinking before doing, it's a lost art I'm telling you... Definitely find someone to paint the coat hanger if it's going in your house. In the workshop bare metal would look better - IMHO..
Those Claas Lexion ladders are handy things to have
They are!
You just need a big vise to hold the work.
Frame straightening is surprisingly simple. Pulling or pushing the material back to where you want it including the spring back amount.
How do you hold a large trailer to keep it from moving when you move it into shape.
Hi My Dear Friend Very Very Great Job Sir ❤❤❤❤❤
MM77 Approved 👍🏻👍🏻
Well done with that. It's not often that metal that's possibly been stretched a bit goes back. Think I would have cut through the support arms on the right and re welded with the tailgate closed where it should have been.
Trouble with doing that is the twist would still be in the tailgate. The arms themselves weren't damaged
I expect we'll see it back in the workshop when the owner needs you to replace the structural members that have rusted through.
Only seeing zipped hoddies ? I would take a jumper hoddie or 2... good fix on the trailer btw 👍
They are in the link!
I suspect I may have been wise to consult you Dad he likely had a few tips that could have been helpful? Nice job of it in any event not easy to undo a twist like that.
Almost 50k subs. Comments = recommendations = more subscribers. Once the metal is in the correct position and under tension, wouldn't heating the place you want it to bend do the job?
Its knowing where to heat.
An idea; put something a four foot length of an electricity pole standing on the ground at the back left hand side of the door and force it down in the opposite side with the loader.
It probably would of been easier if they had left it on for you. Ring of a tree on one side and close her up with her own hydraulics.
The young fella that bent it was probably trying to be helpful by removing it 😄
The dentist did the same thing to pop my jaw back into place 😁
Did he use a JCB ?
When you had it closed, could you have welded the left side and bottom right side of the lid and than, with the pin removed on the right and with the hydrolic cilinder on the right attached created a torsion in the top box section?
possibly, there's usually several ways of doing a job
That''s a real straight looking 390, what hours has it done.
I'm not sure on hours, my dad has partially restored it.
👍👍👍.

Nice job ! Always a brain ache those kinda things .
Pop out hitch on a 390 ! Hi spec for its age and size
Pick up hitch, not pop out.
Ahh my bad . Looked a long way out and what looked like a ram chrome rod in the middle 😂
@@phillipjoyce1071 It looked a long way out because pto guard was off. I used to have a 399 and pickup hook was hard to see.
@@phil6465 We have 2x 390's. The other one is a 4wd, the hitch on that is more underneath and a lot more difficult to see
30:01 got get yourself some paint markers, make an attachment for them in the CNC and then use the CNC to paint it.
I look forward to your uploads Ollie. Whilst i am here. I notice a lot of videos you do there is quite a lot of background noise from what sounds like fighter jets flying over as if you under there flight path.
I hope you feel better soon
Yes, they're often over head, usually on a Monday and Tuesday it seems.
Maybe you could have heat stress to down the top with the torch
i ad same issue but my solution was to heat treat all the joints, it worked to a degree and the steel relaxed back into position.
😊😊😊😊😊
