It is a concept album that tells the story of a rockstar going slowly insane and building a metaphorical wall between himself and reality. The album is meant to be listened to in its entirety as all the tracks lead into each other to progress the story. There are a few songs that can be enjoyed out of context, but to be fully appreciated you should allow the story to unfold in order as it was meant to be heard. You may still struggle to understand it on first listen, but at least you'll be doing it the right way. It really takes a few listens to fully grasp.
Pink Floyd "The Wall" is considered the best concept album ever made.
