@@GedenWilbur Stalking isn't about a 'broken mind'. It's about power & control. Perfectly sane, perfectly logical men who are pillars of the community will stalk & harass a woman because they want power & control over her, & they believe they're entitled to access to the woman they're stalking.
In fact typical stalkers demonstrate their sanity: they're not out there stalking armed police officers or their male coworkers or male MMA fighters--they're stalking women, who are the easiest targets because as a society we don't take crimes against women seriously. I don't understand how he could murder his wife and get 12 years? There is something seriously wrong in the whole UK justice system. How does a MURDERER get life but is out in 12 years....this is and was a tragedy. The fault is the UK justice system.
When a murderer kills more than one person each killing and victim deserves a full sentence. Each victim deserves to see the perpetrator receive a sentence for that action. Consecutive terms!
Recent child killing a partner (who enabled the child to be killed by the partner) and they got only 9 years...wtf.
IMO if you are a parent and enable the abuse (or even abuse too) automatic 25 year sentence. Child murderers and their enablers both need to pay for the murder. Innocent children are the most vulnerable and our future you kill or enable the killer both need to receive the same sentence.

The advocate sounds a bit like she's trying to cover for specific people. I understand that it is human to make even egregious mistakes and to have bad habits, but when individuals own their errors and actually make positive changes, it inspires more confidence in individuals and systems. So many talk about systems as if they are not made up of people. And when something goes wrong they act as if it's a mechanical mishap rather than the actions or inactions of people with responsibilities.

This is why there should be the death penalty for brutal murderers so that the same murderers are not released to kill again and claim more victims because a life sentence in reality does not mean life plus they should not benefit having free warm bed and three hot meals after murdering someone when others have to work hard to eat and have roof over their heads. The death penalty is not for revenge or as a deterrent but it’s to give justice for the victims and to stop them claiming more victims. Releasing brutal, crazed murderers into society is like releasing a dog with rabies into a marketplace. The people who released these murderers should be held accountable.

An interdependent parent wouldn't even expose their kid to anything frightening like that and wouldn't seek advice from the kid for what decision to make about it and they would just stop dating the guy. But her kids were being parentified to be the adult instead of the adult being the parent, and she enmeshed her kids. that kind of parent is a sitting duck for abusers, murderers, etc because they are so codependent, and it also screws up the kids to repeat the behaviors of the parent and also have toxic romance. I wish the school systems would teach mandatory classes from high school to help kids learn about their attachment behaviors to prevent having multiple abusive partners like Janet did.

If there were services for mental health, housing, and health care they could find a better life but there is none of this and they struggle, sometimes they start returning to crime feeling like prison is not much worse than living on the streets with no prospects.

Honestly Simon Mellors should just NEVER have been let out. Asking his parole officer if ‘he’d do it again’ is a ridiculous question so I’m not surprised the daughter got a ridiculous answer. 8 weeks into a relationship isn’t ’far gone’ and she should’ve RAN and her family should’ve been doing absolutely everything in their power to make sure she did.

My deepest condolences to the victims' families and friends for their devastating losses. To lose family members to criminals who should've never been considered for parole in the first place is an excruciating level of needless torment. The parole/probation department members should be required to have some of these dangerous criminals move into their homes and live with their families...I'm sure no parole/probation members would agree to that but they expect unsuspecting communities (and the victims' families or the survivors of brutal crimes) to just accept the criminal's release without advance warning or a say in where that criminal lives. It's deeply unsettling that so many dangerous criminals can basically con their freedom from the parole board with the board knowing why that criminal was imprisoned;life sentences should mean life and getting time off for good behavior should only be considered after an inmate has served 99.99999% of their sentence. The victims didn't get a shot at having a full lifetime so why should these dangerous criminals be given a chance at freedom when they murdered innocent people? Here in the States, I'd like to see full accountability, including criminal charges and prison sentences, for ANY agency that fails to adequately protect the public from dangerous criminals if said criminal re-enters society then commits new violent crimes. Politicians love to rant and rage against a violent criminal who commits heinous acts yet won't provide adequate funding, including mental health services,to ensure the public's safety.

It seems that the UK has very weak sentencing laws for serious crimes. No one should ever have an option of parole for murder. It's generally a life sentence with no chance for parole in the US. Sometimes death depending on the State that the crime happens in.

These are not mistakes. they are deliberate decisions made by people, law makers who don't make laws for really egregious crimes sufficient, and law providers who choose not to let these kinds of criminals serve their full terms. 12 years, 20 years, whatever is not life, it is 12 years or 20 years or less. Life should be life. the victims and their families get life, the perpetrators get a slap on the wrist then get to walk free. To me, the decision makers are as culpable as the perpetrators.

I often wonder why the powers that be release certain people. It is even more baffling when the criminals didn't even give reason for them to have confidence. There are people who committed violent crimes, didn't think about the full consequences to anyone, but later learned valuable things, developed deeper and more meaningful human connections giving way to remorse, empathy, and rehabilitation. I understand that the one was 15, but he didn't just follow the wrong crowd, get caught up in something dangerously idiotic, go into something without thinking, etc. He beat to death an innocent stranger who was just minding her own business. Did he say or do anything that was even remotely convincing to the board, or did they just do what was more convenient for themselves? There are so many stories in which violent criminals get released without any words of reassurance to the public, nothing to suggest remorse or rehabilitation.

Unfortunately not much can be done if an offender is able to convince a parole board they can be trusted to live in community. That's the case in particular with Janet Scott's killer. More should definitely have been post the stalking behaviour but I don't know what would've stopped her being attacked. Short of locking him up, but that's not an indefinite sentence - and once out, he'll go after her with vigour.

Not knowing British laws I don't know how they should've (could've) handled this, but in the US he could've been arrested for parole violations and returned to prison to serve out his time even before getting more charges.

    • @bethdumont9020
      @bethdumont9020 2 роки тому +1

@@indy_go_blue6048 which will only keep him in jail for so long. Eventually he has to be released. Parole violations are misdemeanours, not felonies.
Given the violence of the first murder in the US he would've been given life - again. However the US is the only country where life means precisely that. In the UK & Australia life generally equates to 20 years. Maximum. Then time gets taken off for good behaviour.
Unless the judge sentences you "for the term of your natural life" or states your papers to be stamped "never to be released". That does happen - the killers of Anita Cobby here in Australia drew "term of their natural life" sentences because of the vicious & violent nature of their crime. I'd like to see a legal system that more fully examines the circumstances of the crime when it comes to sentencing decisions.

I still don't understand why these monsters are not kept in prison for life and put them to work to force them to be productive members of society, like we all are.
There's millions of pounds, dollars, pesos and whatever you can bring up to the plate, wasted on keeping these creatures in prison and in the end it is why they are freed; they cost too much money since there's no way we can make them pay for their expenses.
These criminals can easily support the whole system if we put them to work, there's too many of them after all.
I can think, out of the top my head, about a hundred (if no thousands) of different activities where we can put these people to do something better than becoming better criminals.
They can learn how to make a living without resorting to crime and the whole society will be better because when they live prison they would know that there is a better way; full circle and everybody will be safe.
What to do with the "no so good ones"? Keep them "indoors"(working for their benefits) and once again everybody would be safe and happy. I do know many different ways to put them to work without resorting to torture, I'm a decent folk ,believe me
I came out with this realization without even finishing grade 8, why people who go to colleges and universities can even think about something so simply?
From Toronto my heart goes out to all the victims of this crazy politically correct way of life.

Speaking especially for the first part, a lovely lady loses her life and her kids a mother! Because the lawmakers can't understand a former murderer, does not belong on the street again, actually they are playing Pontius pilate ! In my opinion a murderer should get the death penalty , or at last life in prison without parole and is living prison only in a casket, because of old age...
Using taxpayers money, so he can enjoy prison at its finest (it's not a dungeon anymore) and after a few years he is a free man/woman again it's plain speaking nonsense, and if something happens again, especially, like in this case the parole bord, plays stupid like usual 😉! Definitely the death penalty doesn't stop murderer killing people, but at last it's one dirtbag less in our society, and the family of his victim/s find peace again! On top Taxpayers money can be used for better purposes, like Healthcare, Education, Pensions, and a lot, lot more...

Of course they failed in releasing any of these murderers. Who cares if they did an evaluation or not. Murderers will not want to make a mistake in what they say to be able to be released. They want out to be able to do what they enjoy and that is killing innocent people. Anyone who agrees that they should be released should also be charged with assisting in the murder of any future victims. Maybe if they too are charged with enabling the release of a murderer they would reconsider saying that they are safe to be released.
