#MW5Clans (#Mechwarrior5Clans) by Piranha Games. Get it at mw5clans.com
MechWarrior 5: Clans is an upcoming BattleTech Mecha game under development by Piranha Games and due for release in 2024 on Windows and Consoles. It is the first Clan single player MechWarrior game since 1995.
MechWarrior 5: Mercenaries is set in 3015 during the final decade of the Third Succession War, casting the player as a rookie mercenary MechWarrior rising from the ashes of a demolished mercenary unit. They are able to accept contracts from the various factions available in this time period. The campaign is said to go all the way up to 3049, just before the Clan Invasion."
I don't think the rear paper doll is flipped. That might be the Summoner's missile launcher, not the cockpit. Looks wierd, tho.
I think you are correct. That explains it! Cockpits also never show on back views. I'd still say it's weird because the mech front view should then have the missile launcher showing as well to avoid getting confused.
@@TTBprime Absolutely. I guess the front has "mirror paper doll" active, which just adds to the confusion in this case. Also: If this is the missile launcher, then where's the cockpit section? I understand that the Summoner's frame is wierd to begin with, but the paper doll on the Timby also looks awkward.
The abstract MWO paper doll works better. It’s easy to reference and mentally map to the real components of your mech/ target.
The Thor dying at the start is a nod to a similar death in the mechwarrior 3 intro. Very nice touch there.
I'm glad you called out the "clinking" feet. That has been bugging me too
There are a few interesting things I've picked up on between this and the previous trailers that I don't think too many people have mentioned yet. There are also a few things that this has made me think about storyline wise that might be in the game. (Warning, some of this could be spoilers if you aren't familiar with the BattleTech lore.)
You're going to be playing as a star from Clan Jade Falcon's Beta Galaxy, 362nd Assault Cluster. I was able to figure that one out from the character spotlight for Galaxy Commander Cordera Perez, since he was in charge of the whole Turtle Bay affair, and he ordered the Sabre Cat (shown in this trailer) and other warships to commit that massacre with an orbital bombardment on Edo. The 362nd makes a lot of sense to feature in the game, since they were pretty much the tip of the spear for the Smoke Jaguars' invasion and participated in nearly every pivotal battle they had. This trailer even mentions the 362nd in one of the mission briefings. The only other Clan unit that took part in Turtle Bay was the Third Attack Cluster, but they got don't appear in the Jag's roster after this (presumably they were declared "dezgra" and disbanded for their failure to recapture Hohiro Kurita and pacify the uprising that allowed him to escape).
Based on the unit and some of the clips here, we can also tell several of the other planets you will be fighting on. Londerholm is mentioned in one of the featurettes, which sounds like where your sibko was raised, but I think that planet isn't actually shown in the game. It then sounds like you went from there to a "Stalker Base" to finish your training. I'm not sure exactly where that is, but I'm assuming that's still in the Clan homeworlds. It's likely where the game kicks off for the tutorial missions and your Trial of Position against the Timber Wolf shown in this video.
You spotted Santander's World on the mission screen, which is probably the second world in the game. The 362nd fought on that periphery planet in August 3049, before the main invasion kicked off.
Turtle Bay is probably the third world, since that's where the 362nd fought in the first wave. There's a mission objective in the video for you to clear a base of Ryugawa elements, which was the yakuza organization in Edo that organised the uprising and aided Hohiro in his escape. It's the same set of clips with the aerospace fighters and VTOLs, so it's all likely from this battle.
There's nothing in canon about where the 362nd fought in the second and third waves, and I haven't seen much in this trailer or the others that could confirm where the game will take you in this timeframe. I do see a reference to the Fifth ALAG (Fifth Amphigean Light Assault Group) in some of the mission objectives that could be a reference to something in this timeframe, but I don't know what. The only time they're mentioned in the lore during the Clan Invasion (that I can find) is when they were destroyed on Krenice by Clan Ghost Bear in March 3052. PGI probably worked them into a non-canon battle against the Jags leading up to that.
In the fourth wave, the 362nd captured Courchevel in September 3050, then handed it over to the Second Jaguar Regulars. Later in the fifth wave, Clan Nova Cat waged a Trial of Possession against the Jaguars for the planet, and when one of the Second's warriors broke zellbrigen it turned into an all out melee. Only one of the Nova Cat warriors survived, and the Second was completely wiped out. There are mission objectives in this trailer to investigate the last known position of the Second Jaguar Regulars, so that probably has something to do with this incident. My guess is your star got sent back to Courchevel to figure out what happened to them.
I'm very curious if Walcott gets included in the game. This was a very influential battle in the fifth wave since it's the second time the Inner Sphere won against the Clans, and the first battle Clan Smoke Jaguar lost. It was fought by the 225th Jaguar Battle Cluster, not the 362nd, but both clusters were in Beta Galaxy and the Galaxy's command trinary also fought there. If PGI got a bit creative, they could include the player's star as part of that command trinary during this battle without them being too out of place - but that's really just speculation on my part. I haven't seen anything yet that could suggest Walcott is in the game, but I do hope it gets worked into the storyline since it's really the only pivotal CSJ battle the 362nd wasn't directly involved in.
Russ has already confirmed the Battle of Luthien is a key plot point in the game. While there isn't much written in the lore about what the 362nd has done there, they were in that battle. I don't see anything here that I can pinpoint to that battle, so they're probably saving late game details like this for closer to the game's release.
The 362nd also fought at Tukayyid. That would be a great end point for the storyline, and I wouldn't be surprised if it culminated in that campaign. It's probably a safe bet, but I have yet to see anything in this trailer or the other info PGI has released that could actually confirm if this battle is in the game.
Also, your entire star is from the same sibko, and you are all from the Ismiril bloodhouse. We learned that in Kit Commander Ibrahim Ismiril's featurette, because he calls the entire star a failed batch from his bloodhouse. That also means your character Jayden will be competing for the Ismiril bloodname in a Trial of Bloodright at some point in the game.
Anyway, that's what I got from going through this frame by frame, and looking things up on Sarna and the books I have. I was disappointed when I heard this was going to be a linear, story driven game, but now with all the lore references I'm finding I think this could actually be interesting.
Great summary! I read all the novels but it's very nice to see it all condensed down and spelled out.
This neurohelmet pays omage to classic image of parade Smoke Jaguar uniform, where helmets in form of jaguar mouth are depicted. Those two panels over eyes are animal's teeth.
I dont mind the clank if thats just the sound on concrete or hard ground. But it wont sound right off road
Nice to see the Igors have not learned anything and just hover around aimlessly at close range
Ahh, exactly what I needed! A 50 minute look at a short trailer. That might sound sarcastic, but I love this sort of stuff especially in the MechWarrior / BT universe! :)
A very good video, TTB. I always enjoy that you have great attention to detail, and the depths you go to, pointing out such things. My only critique of the analysis video, is that the music is a little too loud, at times clashing for audio supremacy against your voice. During the Trial of Position in the cinematic, you are the one in the Summoner, as the main character. He is shouting in denial, as his opponent(the one in the Timber Wolf) unleashes the weapons. It's a nice callback to the opposite situation in the Mechwarrior 2 opening cinematic, with the Timber Wolf using cover, and winning that fight.
I am looking forward to seeing you play this game.
5:30 quite likely that logo means free fire mod. According to the previous part of the MW5 series where it was
I like most of what I have seen so far. I am hoping for the hud to be customizable. I find everyone reviewing this video has different things that they would like from the UI. Overall the gameplay looks solid. The mech lab looks improved from mercs. Can't wait to play it.
that’s not flipped it’s your missile launcher. it’s on left side torso back
Eh, they somehow ended up making this trailer about big stompy robots and explosions boring imo. I think it was mostly the sound design and the character sounding like a millennial trying to be edgy. 'Willing to tear everything down.' Heh. Not to mention the mechlab looks too controllerified for my tastes. It'll probably take mods to fix this game, too. I'll still pick it up because I see the diamond in the rough, and I'll support any Mechwarrior game that isn't downright bad. We'll see, I guess. I'm hoping they just had to release it early because of licensing issues. Personally, now that Microsoft owns both Fasa and Activision? I don't have any hopes for Mechwarrior 3, but 2 and 4?
You picked up a few things I missed good review. Can't wait for this
You and me both!
Comment #2: Really hyped for the orbital view command system. I can already imagine the mods that will take advantage of this.. We're one step closer to a new MechCommander game >:)
I'm hoping the "clinking" sound from the footsteps is a mixing issue, there is a thud in there and I assume the clink is rattling of the mech because its like it on every surface. The audio of the gameplay sounds a bit flat in general, so hopefully its just bad sound mixing in the trailer making the higher pitched part of the footstep sound wash out the thud.
Really looking forward to both playing this game, and watching it unfold live on stream with your thoughts. Thanks for the deep dive content and analysis!
The Arctic Cheetah of shame awaits him who loses my magic ERPPC!
I’m looking forward to this ! I played a lot of mechwarrior 5 on my ps4 and ps5 , so I’m def looking forward to a more narrative driven experience !
The plink plink sound are leg actuator sounds when they are walking
0:24 somehow gives me some Pacific Rim vibes
Woah amazing refresh. Looks like a new game!
Its insane how many good, or even decent games are releasing in late 2024.......probably why the market feels kind of dry right now....to me anyways.
thank goodness this is not releasing like the original. bc im freaking stuck w the epic version of it -_-
I just accepted receiving the epic version so I didn't have to wait, and ended up basically not playing the game because I just didn't feel like opening up epic XD
Regret that decision.
wait wait… this isn’t dlc for mw5 merc’s ?! it’s a separate game?!?! i’m so disappointed! i wanted clans in my mw5m game! i keep having to mod it
I hope they get that enemy AI sorted so I can have Jagermechs shooting at me while staying at 1200 meters.
ALAG could be the Amphigean Light Assault Group
I am 100% gonna play in First person, then when it comes time to fight, I'm gonna shout "Activate Enhanced Imaging" then immediately switch to third person. This is the only correct way to play.
AFF
47:37 Notice that selected SRM has "Manufacturer" in details. I wonder if different manufacturers would be an analog to weapons tier ranking for MW5 Mercs.
That would be nice! Lore-wise different manufacturers meant different weapon quality and/or weapon characteristics.
#3! I'll try not to comment anymore after this one :)
22:48 I'd guess that's a toggle for first and third person camera.
22:55 I'd agree -- seems like a formation button.
The button in between is likely formation settings (rules of engagement), or I guess it could be a button to go to the options menu but that seems like an odd place to put it
24:05 My guess would be that's "form up on me". Otherwise... PRAISE THE SUN!
I just noticed, but i hope you can change the armor values front/rear. I don't want 18 back armor
rumor is you cant change armor..... what the limitations are on that... i dont know.... but no real mech lab either so... we will see
juicy chunky chewy mechwarrior content!
a) Agree about the lack of stompy audio for those mech feet. A 75 ton monster mech charging forward should slam the ground with each step, and cause vibration events around it. I should feel that "size DOES matter" when something like that is angry and incoming.
b) I hope that the campaign content isn't "newbies starts in lights and progresses to heavier and slower and taller, and done". I would like to have seriously upgraded light and medium mechs still being really important in the late game.
they all progress like that
No sale.
