- Another: HAM RADIO: Easy SlimJim / J-Pole Dual band Antenna Build for 2m/70cm.
Yet again thanks to a book I purchased many moons ago, I have found the perfect way to pass a quiet Sunday. Build your own 2M / 70cm Slim Jim or J-Pole. out of ladder line in under 20mins.
You need:
1.5M of 300 Ohm ladder line
Some strip connector, Coax and a PL259
and that's it, Bobs your uncle.

Nice one Mike! Followed your measurements exactly this morning using similar leftovers from some HF antenna projects. Only difference was; used electrical tape in place of heat shrink. Hung in my loft and from Cirencester can easily access the Swindon 2m repeater on very low power. Am very happy... and so is the better half as saved shelling out £50+ for a similar performing shop bought antenna. A great start to Fri 13th :)

Mike, where you have the cut out, what I do is place a piece of cable tie either side (it fits in gaps perfectly) for a few inches and tape that in place.

you make the live easy for you self but not for ur vieuwers ( schematic pls , is this video for 70 cm and 2 meter dual , and on witch side comes the coax plus and minus , + coax on short pole , or on long pole , or the other way ??? , you twisting and turning :) thanks
Hi Mike and happy new year. I've trien twice now with 300 and 450 ohm ladder line I can't get the swr below 1.4:1 their are different measurements for a slim Jim online. They are about 5cm different.
I need to build a test rig so I can try different sizes to see if I can lower the swr. It's 1:1 at around 130.500 ish.

Sounds like you need to trim both the left and right leg lengths to make the antenna a little bit shorter.

Hi got the wire antenna book. The dual band j pole page 153 ,I am confused the drawing shows 5 .25 inch cuts . But it says 4? Love what you do

Does it make a difference if the ladder line having solid core vs stranded wire?

I built this antenna, it's physically impossible to get the SWR down below about 8.5!
Why isn't someone selling these ready made?, I've just ordered everything to build one or 5

I have a litle space on balcony(4m×1m×2.5m hights and she must be anvisible😔. I dont have even antena analyser. So this clip halp me a lot. Thanke you
