Another fun year awaits you Petrik. I'm gonna revisit Memory, Sorrow and Thorn yet again, to finally get ready for The Last King of Osten Ard, especially now that it's finally complete. The thing about the Warhammer 40k novels is that they are geared towards people who are really into the universe so the books never do the type of world-building explaining things like they do in other SFF series. Horus Heresy has a lot of major lore characters and assumes the reader has some familiarity about them. This is why I think you should start with Eisenhorn. Warhammer 40k books are pretty fun pallet cleansing type books and their influence on the space opera genre is kinda underrecognised so they are definitely worth delving into. You should definitely get theough PoN just so that you can started on the much better Aspects-Emperor

It's time to read War Arts Saga. I wanted to read it this year, but the last book doesn't end up being published this year. To next year it is! Dandelion Dynasty is AMAZING. As you know my thoughts on it. I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I did! :)
The Kithamar Trilogy is fantastic! The first book takes its time to get going - the set-up is quite slow. But after it finds its pace it becomes absolutely stunning. I'm planning to do a reread of the whole thing after reading the final book because I know that there'll be a whole lot of satisfying cross-references between all installments. As for Earthsea, I would say that the first book can be a bit challenging to get through because it's more a psychological allegory about facing your fears than an actual story. At the time of writing this book le Guin was strongly influenced by Carl Jung and there are tons of direct references to his ideas. Tombs of Atuan are excellent though - till today they are one of my favorite books ever. It's also good to know that Ursula le Guin changed her mind about many elements of the series as time went by, and because of that "Tehanu", the 4th book, is a little bit of a retcon. Earthsea is one of those series where it really helps to know the real world context for why le Guin made certain decisions because otherwise this series may feel like a confusing hodgepodge of ideas.
Look, making reading goals and actually reading are two entirely separate hobbies hahaha. I really hope you get around to these though, I am eager to hear your thoughts! Kithamar, Gael Song and DCC are the most appealing to me as well. And additionally, I hope to binge Sun Eater myself next year! Fingers crossed it actually happens 🤩
Gael Song and War Arts are on my list for next year as well! I think you'll really like Kithamar! Picked it up with zero context and loved it! I tried Dungeon Crawler Carl this year and didn't enjoy it at all. The friends I buddy read it with absolutely loved it and have kept going with the series though!
Yeahh! SO MANY people love Dungeon Crawler Carl. I don't usually read LitRPG novels, but I'll give this one a try. I'm confident about Kithamar and War Arts Saga, though. I hope you'll love them, too! :)
Having read most of Warhammer franchise books i can say both Horus Heresy and Eisenhorn are good choises to start from. Horus Heresy will show you the start of the main plot line and focus on space marines and their surroundings, on Eishenhorn youll get a better look of the average humans life.
Still noticing no Wandering Inn, hmmm. 😊 , but seriously, I am all caught up and find myself waiting for the next chapter. It has cut down my overall number of books I would normally read in a year lol
Great choices Petrik, some of these series are also on my radar,The Library trilogy,Earthsea,The Gael Song but don't know if I will be able to get to them next year. Other series that I will definitely read are:The Last King of Osten Ard,Kingsbridge series (loved Pillars of the Earth),The Dark Tower,The Green Bone Saga and the Dandelion Dynasty. Hopefully,we both will manage to get to the most of them.
Thank you so much! From my side, I can confirm The Last King of Osten Ard, The Green Bone Saga, and the Dandelion Dynasty are all excellent series. I truly hope you'll love them. Fingers crossed we'll enjoy The Library trilogy, Gael Song, and Earthsea. I'm thinking of reading The Left Hand of Darkness quickly as a tester to Guin's work, too! :D
I started my journey into the 40K novels with Eisenhorn and it was a fantastic starting point for me. The Horus Heresy is more of a prequel lore journey and is an enormous undertaking if you want to read the whole thing. Eisenhorn is actually set in the 40th millennium proper and is it's own contained story, a perfect place to dive into the world IMO!
Starting with Eisenhorn is good because it gives you a more broad sense of the setting. It deals with all the inquisition, space marines, chaos space marines, chaos cultists. If you want you can grab Warriors of Ultramar to get a sense of how Space Marines works and even Storm of Iron to go for chaos Space Marines before jumping into Horus Heresy.
I would absolutely recommend the Eisenhorn books, I really enjoyed them, the Ravenor books too but that's as far as I've gone so far in 40K. I know you don't really do audiobooks but for anyone else Toby Longworth does the narration on Audible and does a fantastic job, just a shame you can't get them all in an omnibus, it's quite a few credits considering the length of the books!
Awesome! Do you think I should read Horus Heresy books first? Or it's okay to just dive into Eisenhorn. I know the brief background of Horus Heresy from playing the games. :)
@PetrikLeo I didn't know much past the very basics so I think it's fine to jump in with Eisenhorn. I learned a lot more about the background of Warhammer from the Space Marine 2 game. I only meant to read the first Eisenhorn book but I went through all of them plus Ravenor trilogy and a couple of related short stories. I do mean to start the Horus Heresy one day.
Great video~ I am trying to plan getting thru series on TBR in 2025, some have been on TBR too long or started & need to re-read and complete A Forgery of Magic by Maya Motayne, The Drowning Empire by Andrea Stewart, Kel Kade’s King’s Dark Tidings, Lawrence’s Library Trilogy, Five Warrior Angels, Echoes of the Fall, Under the Northern Sky, Dungeon Crawler Carl, Poppy War, and still others
The audiobooks for Guards Guards/Nightwatch are a lot better than the physical books in my opinion. I struggled to physically read it, but found it so easy and enjoyable to listen to it
Yes, «Earthsea»! Will start on «Gael Song» next after my current read «Lord of Light» by Roger Zelazny and «Fury of the Gods» by John Gwynne! As for myself: The «Aspect-Emperor» series by R. Scott Bakker (Grimdark/Dark Epic Fantasy inspired by the Crusades, Silmarillion, Blood Meridian & Dune) «The Last King of Osten Ard» series (plus the standalone prequels) by Tad Williams (Epic Fantasy, Sequel Series to the «Memory, Sorrow & Thorn» Trilogy) The «Witcher» series The «Kane» stories by Karl Edward Wagner (S&S, Proto-Grimdark) The «Arthurian Saga» by Mary Stewart (Arthurian Fantasy) Cheers Petrik! 😎
For Warhammer, my vote would either be Eisenhorn, or the Gaunt's Ghosts series, both by the same author, Dan Abnett. Horus Heresy I would say would be more for superfans of the universe. That series is written by different authors, with variable results. For Eisenhorn, the parallel to something you might have read would be the 'Empire of the Wolf' series by Richard Swan, except in a science-fantasy setting. The main character is an inquisitor whose quest brings him close to becoming the very thing he struggles against. This is my favorite set of books set in the Warhammer universe. The only caveat is we have been waiting for the last book in the 3rd trilogy for a few years. Gaun't s Ghosts is maybe a little more formulaic, but it has the benefit of being a completed series. More straight-ahead military sci-fi.
Hello Petrik i have on my goal the last trilogy by James Rowling and reading at last the cradle saga! Hope the strength of the few will be available en 2025 😊 fingers crossed
I really hope you will enjoy the Fionavar trilogy as much as I did, and while I don't know if that's any indication, I also enjoyed Tigana immensely, so there's at least a chance you might. Apart from that, there's so much I want to read that I have a hard time narrowing it down to something realistic. I already told you that I want to start The Sun Eater saga in 24 and that will certainly carry over into 25. I also want to finally start with Sanderson's Stormlight Archive series and I also want to do a reread of the Wheel of Time saga, so unless I find a way to ramp up my reading speed, that might already be enough to cover next year's reading. If not then there's still a few books by Anthony Ryan and Mark Lawrence I want to read, and I think with this video you might just have expanded my 25 TBR for another 30 books ^^. I better leave it at that.
I'm happy to see this video. You know how highly i think of Earthsea, and I've poked you a bunch of times about Age of Ash and Blade of Dream when you were lamenting the lack of 5 star reviews over the past few years 😂. As for Kay, I enjoy two of his standalone works far more than his series. Both Tigana and Ysabel are exceptional, in my opinion. Not to say his series are bad, far from it, but those two stand high above for me. Terry Pratchett rules. I'm so happy you're gonna give Discworld another go. Interesting Times, Thief of Time, and Night Watch, are my personal fav's. I'll look forward to your thoughts. Dungeon Crawler Carl is fun, and one of the few LitRpgs I've read where the pros far outweigh the cons. Prince of Nothing...finally! It's not one of my personal favorites, but that just means it's in my top 100 series, and not my top 50 or 20! Given what i know of you from the last few years of reviews, and some communication, I think the Prince of Nothing and The Aspect-Emperor trilogies are gonna hit you good, maybe even REALLY good! Happy reading, and thanks for the reviews! D
Thank you so much!! Haha yeah, I truly hope next year will bring more mpre 5 star readings. This year has been so devoid of them. Sad times! 😂 Thanks for your opinion and input on these series. I'm excited to get to them!
Ambitious plans in there! Beacause of Susana Clarke I want to read "The Tombs of Atuan" so I guess I need to start with the first book in the "Earthsea". Series I want to start: "Binti" - Nnedi Okorafor, "The Divine Cities" - Robert Jackson Bennett, "The Sorcerer of Wildeeps" - Kai Ashante Wilson (SF novellas duology) "A Chorus of Dragons" - Jen Lyons "Moon" - Waubjeshing Rice (Post Apocaliptic)
Technically you could read "Tombs of Atuan" as a standalone because it follows a different protagonist and takes place in a different location than "The Wizard of Earthsea". IMO, "Tombs" is a much better book than "The Wizard".
Mort is ok, Guards Guards is great. The City Watch books are my favorite Discworld (mostly because I love Vimes and Vetinari), I didn't even read them in order but still very much enjoyable. but then again, I keep recommending them to my brother but he just couldn't get into them even tho we basically read the same books
Horus Heresy is a great starting point for warhammer as it is the event that informs pretty much everything in the 40k universe. Really long series though so good luck 😅
I'm very excited to purchase and read: 1) Gael Song 2) Gunmetal God's 3) 5 Warrior Angels 4) Kagen The Damned Keep on keeping on Petrik :) enjoy your 4th quarter, and enjoy Quarter 1 of 2025 -JRoot
If i could do it over again, I would start with Eisenhorn. Youll get a better understanding of everything. Although Eisenhorn does take place 10,000 years after the Horus Heresy
This year for me has been a year of Warhammer. Started with Eisenhorn, then some Ciaphas Cain books and now I'm on Horus Heresy. As total warhammer noobie myself starting with Eisenhorn felt like a mistake, I was quite lost at times. Ciaphas Cain is easy entry and the books were fun and generally decent quality. Horus Heresy on the other hand is extremely long but the beginning is solid but there is soo many crappy entries in the first 20 at least that you have to either force read or ignore some entries. Need to do some research to find the gold in the pile of rubbish. There are ton of different reading guides of skippable books.
Are you going to read The Wandering Inn volume 1 on 2025? Worm is amazing, the main character is one of the bests of all time, LOTM is really good too, especially the worldbuilding and powers, i still found the last arc a bit boring, but all of it before that is really good
Petrik can barely get to 50 books a year? OMG he really is human! Both the Matthew Corbett series by McCammon and The Prince of Nothing by R. Scott Bakker are on my list to get to next year.
Everyone talks about how amazing Lord of the Mysteries’ world building is and yeah it’s fantastic but I feel like people don’t talk about something that’s literally in the NAME and that’s that the mysteries are so complex and have such massive payoffs that they’d probably make Islington, Mochizuki, and Ryukishi07 cower in fear (which is saying something as my username is a direct Umineko reference lmao) Also the villains are some of the scariest mfs I’ve ever read about and I haven’t even gotten to the one who everyone won’t stfu about even though he’s technically a spoiler until his first appearance!
WOW. That's very high praise. You're right, though. I don't think people ever talked about the mysteries. But maybe that's to avoid spoiler. I am so pumped for it. I wish I could've gotten to it this year! :/
@@PetrikLeoit’s definitely to avoid spoilers. To stay vague there’s a diary the protagonist will find pages from throughout the whole story (like he reads his first pages not even 30 chapters in) and basically every scene where he reads more pages there’s always some sort of revelation of a varying degree. There are A LOT more outside of said diary pages as well.
Definitely. I mean, this year I read Threadlight trilogy as one of my priority series too. Gunmetal Gods will most likely be the self-pub book I read next year
I’m confident Prince of Nothing will become one of your favourite series. You’ll struggle to find better prose in the fantasy genre. The only other series that gets close is Malazan imo.
Many people who know my reading taste said the same thing. It's why I'm sad I couldn't get to it this year. I hope I can fix that next year, at least the first trilogy! :)
Uuuu. Cool. Im looking foward to earth sea. Long a go i deed research of earth sea to see if i want the omnibus book. I think i siced my purchess to safe money back then. I boght the teler of small fortunes😊 thank you.
Terry pratchett is not a one novel read. To get to know the world you have to read at least 3 books of the same saga, let's say the guards. Then you get to know Ank Morpork, the dirtiest and smelliest city that never sleeps and its lovely second characters that appear in all the books that happen in Ank Morpork.
I just received my advance reading copy of A Drop of Corruption. I was going to hold off on reading it, but I loved The Tainted Cup so much I probably won't make it until Saturday.
I couldn't get through book 1 of The Fionovar Tapestry- too much of every fantasy cliche in existence, done poorly. Sailing to Sarantium (4 stars) is well worth the effort to get to Lord of Emperors (5 stars). Matthew Corbett gets a but 'modern' at times, but McCammon always delivers.

Hahaha that's true! I can't disagree with that. Book buying too. :'D
Love watching these videos, Petrik! I have found many amazing books that I would have never found. Thank you for the content!
Thank you very much! It's always good to have some things to read and look forward to! :)
The Art of Prophecy is AMAZING PETRIK!!!!!!!! My favorite ongoing series along with Red Rising and Empire of The Vampire
Thank you so much! That's HIGH praise! :)
Having read most of Warhammer franchise books i can say both Horus Heresy and Eisenhorn are good choises to start from. Horus Heresy will show you the start of the main plot line and focus on space marines and their surroundings, on Eishenhorn youll get a better look of the average humans life.
Thank you so much for the suggestion! I'll keep this in mind. I'll most likely start from Eisenhorn first. 😂
Still noticing no Wandering Inn, hmmm. 😊 , but seriously, I am all caught up and find myself waiting for the next chapter. It has cut down my overall number of books I would normally read in a year lol
I have given up on committing to the series. I'll read The Wandering Inn whenever my mood calls me for it. XD
@PetrikLeo totally understandable 😀 it's very long.
Thank you so much! Yeah, many have said something similar. I will start from Eisenhorn for sure. WOOHOO!!
I'm so excited you want to read Warhammer. Eisenhorn series was the first books I read in that universe and it was my favorite read of the year.
I think it's time I try reading the books, too. Some of them anyway. I've wanted to do it for YEARS. :D
Thank you so much! I'm quite confident with my choice to start with Eisenhorn. Many have mentioned the same thing. I hope I'll enjoy the series! :)
Great shirt! Personally I can’t wait to read Dungeon Crawler Carl. I have been highly recommended to listen rather than reading. Thanks for the video
Same here! Thank you for watching! 😄
Great video~ I am trying to plan getting thru series on TBR in 2025, some have been on TBR too long or started & need to re-read and complete
A Forgery of Magic by Maya Motayne, The Drowning Empire by Andrea Stewart, Kel Kade’s King’s Dark Tidings, Lawrence’s Library Trilogy, Five Warrior Angels, Echoes of the Fall, Under the Northern Sky, Dungeon Crawler Carl, Poppy War, and still others
That happens! I have some series I haven't continued because I need to reread them first. 😅 Good luck with your 2025 TBR!
The audiobooks for Guards Guards/Nightwatch are a lot better than the physical books in my opinion. I struggled to physically read it, but found it so easy and enjoyable to listen to it
Interesting! Maybe that's what I'll do if the physical read doesn't click with me!
Yes, «Earthsea»! Will start on «Gael Song» next after my current read «Lord of Light» by Roger Zelazny and «Fury of the Gods» by John Gwynne!
As for myself:
The «Aspect-Emperor» series by R. Scott Bakker (Grimdark/Dark Epic Fantasy inspired by the Crusades, Silmarillion, Blood Meridian & Dune)
«The Last King of Osten Ard» series (plus the standalone prequels) by Tad Williams (Epic Fantasy, Sequel Series to the «Memory, Sorrow & Thorn» Trilogy)
The «Witcher» series
The «Kane» stories by Karl Edward Wagner (S&S, Proto-Grimdark)
The «Arthurian Saga» by Mary Stewart (Arthurian Fantasy)
Cheers Petrik! 😎
Ambitious plan you have there! I hope you'll enjoy The Last King of Osten Ard as much as I did! :)
Empire of the Wolf!? That's all I need to hear. Eisenhorn it is. Thank you so much!
LOTM is peak. book 1 was 10/10 for me
Sounds amazing! I never heard anyone disliking it! :)
You will love Fionavar Tapestry. It is 100% Epic High Fantasy.
@@JohnAndrewMacDonald I truly hope so!! 🥲
All of these are on my tbr as well! Except for DCC that is which I am a massive fan of already!
Good to know! I'll catch up soon brother! :)
Hello Petrik i have on my goal the last trilogy by James Rowling and reading at last the cradle saga! Hope the strength of the few will be available en 2025 😊 fingers crossed
I'm pretty sure Strength of the Few will be out in 2025!
@ that’s great yeah!
That's hopeful! Good luck with your ambitious series to read, too! We have a lot of them! 😂😂
The first 4 books of the Horus Heresy are amazing. The Flight of the Eisenstein is one of my favourites
Woohoo! Good to know! I want to know more about the universe before the adaptation appears, too!
Ambitious plans in there! Beacause of Susana Clarke I want to read "The Tombs of Atuan" so I guess I need to start with the first book in the "Earthsea".
Series I want to start:
"Binti" - Nnedi Okorafor,
"The Divine Cities" - Robert Jackson Bennett,
"The Sorcerer of Wildeeps" - Kai Ashante Wilson (SF novellas duology)
"A Chorus of Dragons" - Jen Lyons
"Moon" - Waubjeshing Rice (Post Apocaliptic)
Technically you could read "Tombs of Atuan" as a standalone because it follows a different protagonist and takes place in a different location than "The Wizard of Earthsea". IMO, "Tombs" is a much better book than "The Wizard".
Divine Cities is amazing! :)
Thank you! I really appreciate the info.
Fingers crossed Guards2 will be The Discworld series for me!! 😄😄
I really hope you make it to Work this year. It's amazing.
Do you mean Worm? Because I do work everyday! xD
😂 autocorrect got me @@PetrikLeo
Ive only read the first Earthsea book and want to read the next in the series
Nice! I hope it will be the same for me, too! 😄
Horus Heresy is a great starting point for warhammer as it is the event that informs pretty much everything in the 40k universe. Really long series though so good luck 😅
I'll probably just read a few books in Horus Heresy hahaha! The series is super long!
@@PetrikLeo Read only those, which have the highest ratings on goodreads (above 4 at least).
YES PETRIK. DCC. YES.
I'm on it, Andrew! I'm on it!!
I'm very excited to purchase and read:
1) Gael Song
2) Gunmetal God's
3) 5 Warrior Angels
4) Kagen The Damned
Keep on keeping on Petrik :) enjoy your 4th quarter, and enjoy Quarter 1 of 2025
-JRoot
Thank you very much! Five Warrior Angels is GREAT! :)
If i could do it over again, I would start with Eisenhorn. Youll get a better understanding of everything. Although Eisenhorn does take place 10,000 years after the Horus Heresy
Eisenhorn it is! I didn't know it takes place 10,000 years after Horus Heresy, though! :D
Prince of Nothing is AMAZING!!!
Also Matthew Corbett is good.
@@BlackLiliummmmm Thank you! I am pumped for them!! 😄😄
I will make sure to do my research before reading Warhammer! Thanks for your opinion, though! :)
As an Irish person myself I'm curious about Gael Song.
Can you let me know what you think when you read it? :D
@@PetrikLeo aye aye captain!
I just couldnt get into Warhammer 40K for some reason, maybe I just read the wrong ones 😊. So many to choose from I was a bit overwhelmed
It's a truly MASSIVE series!
I neeeeed to get to mark lawrence-and also the fatemarked universe has been calling my name
@@Chance.Dillon yes you should! Let me know what you think of Fatemarked! 😄
Are you going to read The Wandering Inn volume 1 on 2025?
Worm is amazing, the main character is one of the bests of all time, LOTM is really good too, especially the worldbuilding and powers, i still found the last arc a bit boring, but all of it before that is really good
Most likely just volume 1 of Wandering Inn! I'm not including it here just because I don't want to commit to it yet. The series is so damn massive. xD
Have you considered Small Gods (discworld)? I personally think there’s a better chance of you liking it over Guards Guards! :)
Oh my god yes! It's either Guards2 or Small Gods as a starting point for me. 😂
Petrik can barely get to 50 books a year? OMG he really is human!
Both the Matthew Corbett series by McCammon and The Prince of Nothing by R. Scott Bakker are on my list to get to next year.
I AM GROOT. I AM HUMAN! :p
So looking forward to reading Matthew Corbett and Prince of Nothing. At least start them! :)
Everyone talks about how amazing Lord of the Mysteries’ world building is and yeah it’s fantastic but I feel like people don’t talk about something that’s literally in the NAME and that’s that the mysteries are so complex and have such massive payoffs that they’d probably make Islington, Mochizuki, and Ryukishi07 cower in fear (which is saying something as my username is a direct Umineko reference lmao)
Also the villains are some of the scariest mfs I’ve ever read about and I haven’t even gotten to the one who everyone won’t stfu about even though he’s technically a spoiler until his first appearance!
Petrik...do you think you might read/review one of those self pub books you get in your monewly hauls?
Don't feel bad. I am currently reading over 100 series. 😂
Me too. 🤣🤣
Man I envy your reading aptitude.
Thank you, friend! :)
I’d like to start The Fionavar series in 2025. Re Guards Guards, if you didn’t like Mort, I don’t see you liking GG much more
@@NevsBookChannel that's what I'm afraid of... 🥲
You really should treat yourself to a classic sci-fi series by decades-long best-selling author W. Michael Gear's Donovan series. You'll thank me.
I'll thank you now for the recommendation! :)
Uuuu. Cool. Im looking foward to earth sea. Long a go i deed research of earth sea to see if i want the omnibus book. I think i siced my purchess to safe money back then. Lets see if your reed of earth sea gives me a push to buy it. And yea on my search long ago, they said the animated movie was NOTHING like the book and that the book is a crown jwel. Oh yea! I boght the teler of small fortunes😊 thank you.
You're welcome. Enjoy The Teller of Small Fortunes! I look forward to reading the Earthsea!
Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn and Assassin's Creed Series
Enjoy! MST is awesome! :)
I’m sitting at about 118 books read so far this year.
I'm ENVIOUS.
That's true! I have to remember this the next time I attempt Pratchett's books instead of giving up on it not even halfway through Mort. xD
DCC please try audiobooks!
I keep hearing that!
Aw still no Drenai Saga :(…. How many years will I have to wait
I'll most likely read Legend next year! :)

I'm sure it was just an editing mistake, but you forgot World Without End by Ken Follett. 😉
Oh I will read that for sure next year. This is just for series I haven't started! I've started Kingsbridge! :)
I just received my advance reading copy of A Drop of Corruption. I was going to hold off on reading it, but I loved The Tainted Cup so much I probably won't make it until Saturday.
What!? I don't have mine yet! I need to request for a copy of A Drop of Corruption! 😄

Omg Petrik, why do you sleep on the Gunmetal Gods Series?
I will start it next year, too. This list (except DDC) is for completed series.

Daaaaammmnnnnn. The highest of praises!
I did not like Sailing to Sarantium at all. Here's hoping I'll like Fionavar more despite the cliches. I have faith in Robert McCammon's writing!
@@PetrikLeo I can understand the difficulty with Sailing to Sarantium- I had to push through parts of it myself a few times. All the best with Fionavar. Maybe one day I'll get back to it...
Tigana was beautifully written, but I really hated the story and arc of one of the characters, if you know the one I mean.
It's beautifully written! I'm not sure which character you meant, though? :)
It was Dianora, I think. I won't go into why I really didn't like her situation and how I think it should have turned out because of spoilers.
GGK doesn’t write LitRPGs, magic-systems. If that’s your speed, probably be disappointed.
