Can you make a SHORT of your dad saying it’s okay to embrace moving something you love for a change that makes living together more meaningful and enjoyable!

Wow! I was amazed with the huge difference the trim and paint color made when it came to the “floating” animals! So smart. It looks so much more purposeful and cozy now.

Agree. I would have loved an overall view of the whole space.
It was hard to get the vision she was talking about, for me anyway. The little shots of the different areas looked fabulous! How bout it Lisa? ❤❤

oh my goodness!!! what a difference you have made! I hope your dad is also now enjoying his bar area more. Sometimes we buy an item of furniture because we actually dream of a FEELING, but once we get it home, it doesn't always translate. I hope your Dad can FEEL now, that what he wanted his bar to create and why he wanted a pool table is finally able to happen thanks to skills that he didn't have. Now, they are a destination together creating years of future memories and new traditions that hadn't been happening if it just all stayed the same. It might not have been broken before, but "better is better". I hope he is encouraged to share with you other visions he had for his home that he would like guidance to tweak. What a beautiful gift you and Andrea have given your parents, all the sisters and brother-in-laws and all of the grandchildren

Love the "shouse" concept. Did you know that in Northern Germany/probably also the Netherlands, farmers lived in a "Hallenhaus" which is basically the same concept? They were build 13th to 15th century and many can still be visited today. Some are kept the same and work as a museum, others are renovated into modern living spaces. They all have living quarters combined with a large shed for tools and cattle, with a big open living area where the open fire was. I wonder if the "shouse" derived from it when settlers came to America. So cool to hear about this concept in an American setting, it makes perfect sense that people thought of it elsewhere, too.

This is a practical concept - shopkeepers have been living above or behind their stores for centuries. It makes sense that farms would do likewise.

You really need TWO of those sectionals to fit the space😊 they would fill the room out more, provide plenty of seating and look very custom! The whole room is looking great. May I also suggest carrying over some of the green paint to the kitchen area, maybe add the same molding and paint to the left of the wood stove/rock.

I enjoyed this, thank you. I like the use of spaces. With a game room area and the dining/living space, and the space is still large enough for children to play nearby 🥰 . The simple solution to the floating trophies was great!! Really nice. I also like how it’s evolving over time, For budget, but also, when you have lived in a home for 20 years, even wanted changes, can be an adjustment. Easing into the changes is a great way to go. Thanks for sharing.

We had a shouse 40 years ago when our kids were little and my husband had a mechanic business. After moving a country church and making it into our home, 30 years later we are in the process of doing a shouse again for our retirement years. We are looking forward to one level and everything in one space again. Thanks Jo

Wow everything look great ! As a lover of having some area rugs I personally think a nice rug would look fantastic under the table. It would further define the space and would provide more warmth. I’d get a darker rug and one that has a light weight so you can clean it and it would dry easily ! Excellent job! Would love to meet your mom and other sister !

Beautiful! We are practically neighbors. We are in south central IL and here, we call them "Barndominiums". We completely redid our old farmhouse 22 years ago (wish we would have done a barndominium then) and completely gutted our entire home. Opened up the kitchen dining area and also turned the old garage (and added 8 ft. onto it) because our family was beginning to grow. Have 3 kids that married and now we have 16 grands and adding another to the clan this fall so we knew we would need more room. We basically did the same thing. Couldn't tear out all the walls b/c some were load bearing, but opened up the entire area and now we have so much space to move around. The kids/grands live close and we get together all the time so this new space is amazing. Anyone thinking of doing this needs a great vision of what they want and go for it. It seems daunting at first, but when it's done, it's so satisfying to have so much space. The grands are all over this house and we have room for everyone with some to spare. Great video.

This is such a special video. I am so inspired by your parents and the life-giving home they have created. It’s easy to want our homes to be “finished”, when in reality, it’s the story that makes the home. The thought of starting to build a house that my daughters help me finish is so good, true, and beautiful. I would love to hear your mom speak about her marriage and motherhood journey because whatever she did, it worked. My life’s dream is a home full of grandbabies running in and out from the creek!

I love the decision to do the picture rail and paint below it.
To extend the kitchen more, I can see a hutch/kitchenette ( even the old entertainment unit) on the wall in the old dining space. It could be used as a coffee bar or extra storage and has the bonus of obscuring the view into the toilet.
