I'm in Newfoundland and relate so much to the way you have to do everything the "canadian" way because its all rusted so bad. The climate here is humid and we salt the roads 5 months a year. Not to mention the salty ocean. So yeah, I get it. And I get a lot of tips from this, like cutting off the AC and separating it on the bench, thats brilliant.
WHAT A CHANNEL FOR ALL OF US BMW OWNERS!!! HOLY CRAP!!! A TREASURE TROVE OF A CHANNEL. THANK YOU SO SO MUCH FOR DOING WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND SHARING IT ON UA-cam. I personally own a BMW 528i with the N20 and can't express how delighted I am to have found your channel. You are so right, many people do BMW things but don't go into depth, document and share them while being knowledgeable technically and proficient mechanically. As many said, you are an updated channel to M539 Restorations and quite possibly the only one making this type of content. Your videography also is beautiful and clear. Really, thank you so much. I wish I could like and subscribe more than once. I am binge watching all of your videos!!!
Hi, I am working on Part 3 right now and have a question you may be able to answer. I have read the ISN and VIN from N20 DME but when I want to flash that onto N55 DME (both done on bench), N55 DME won't accept. Is this a problem with my programming? Or does the DME recognize it is not from the right model and rejects it? I am using Yanhua ACDP.
you need to change the ISN in Dflash and VIN if you want and write it on the dme , the problem is that you can not change the ISN that easily, you need a special program, if you can t change it send me the files and I will do it for you , free of charge, beacause i love your work :)
What an amazing content you create brother 🔥 I liked every second of this video. It would be so nice if we could see every detailed and small thing/step that you are doing to the car. yes everything :)
The youtube algorithm gods have blessed me with your content! I finished my E91 N52 auto xdrive to N54 manual rwd swap last year but have been wondering about a F31 N55 swap. Why did you not get a f30 donor to do the swap? Are there enough pieces that transfer to make it worth piecemealing? Look forward to part 3 and beyond!!!
That’s awesome! I’m glad you found the channel. Check out Part 1 if you haven’t already. Now that I am almost done the swap, a donor car would have been the smart move. There are too many small parts and weird things that add up way too quickly and whatever money I thought I could save sourcing individual parts myself, ended up costing more than a donor car. And not to mention more work.
Unfortunately I only realized AFTER installing… but that’s why I added the comment in the video. I know a lot of people follow these almost like a step by step guide, and I don’t want to mess anyone up!
Thank you, glad you are enjoying the content! No, I'm not a BMW certified tech, never went to mechanic school or anything like that. This is just a hobby that's gotten a bit out of control these last few years...
I have a non-M sport 335i sedan and I came to the same conclusion as you regarding the auxiliary water pump. Even if you spliced the wires , I wasn’t sure if the pump would actually run? It was unclear to me which module was responsible for driving the signal to the water pump, or if it’s just the same signal to the primary water pump but repeated. In any case, there is another option. The activehybrid 3 main radiator has two additional points on it to plumb the driver side auxiliary coolant radiator. I am in the process of performing the upgrade myself, but some of the special coolant lines are hard to find. I was only able to buy one new, and had to get The other one from salvage. I am on stage 2 tune and the car runs just a tiny bit hot. Even though it’s a daily driver, I’d rather have additional cooling capacity.
Oh wow! That's really interesting. I didn't even think to look at the ActiveHybrid3. I just did a bit of research now and it looks great. Added ports for the driver side auxiliary coolant radiator, while keeping the same water pump. If you don't mind, I'll screenshot your comment and add it into one of the next videos because that would actually be a perfect solution. If I had known this before I would have done it that way instead.
@bimmer.doctor hmm my comments aren't showing up, but absolutely go ahead and post a screenshot of my comment. Love your channel, keep up the good work!
Always remember, no 4 cylinder BMW transmission / transfer case is comparable with their 6 cylinder version, they might look the same but their different animals, also on BMW 8 cylinder boxes are not compatible with 8 cylinder M version ones, they also look the same, even connectors click right up, but the bolt patterns are different, hence the ratio of the gears. Hope with this piece of information I was able to save you couple of thousands off your future V8 project.
Thank you! This is not entirely correct, but I understand what you’re getting at. For these transmissions (between the N20 and N55), I did actually need to change the transmission to the one from the N55, but it was because of a fitment issue. The internals, clutch packs, mechatronics are identical as per the ZF parts diagrams. The transfer case is actually the same part number directly from BMW as well. There are lots of other examples like you mentioned that do have different internals, but that’s what really annoyed me about this situation. These two are NOT different internals. The only difference is the slight change for that one bell housing bolt, and the fact that the N55 tranny is about 50mm shorter. I don’t know why it’s packaged differently like that, but they are. Either way, thanks for your input! Looking forward to getting this project on the road.
You can drill the steel pin to separate the ac condenser line. What dealership did you work in Quebec? I was a dealer tech in Halifax, Nova Scotia and we had the exact same corrosion issue or even worse. Great c Videos. 🤘
Hi, im curious, if You take apart the mechatronik, why did not changed the separator plate as well? It can cause issues with the silicone when the oil wash it off and stuck somewhere in the body. By the way i like to watch your videos, thanks the entertaining!
To keep the transmission ground in good shape in Quebec you simply have to fill it with fluid film. Also, quick question, where did you get your ZF solenoid kit? In any case, good progress this video!
Good idea with the fluid film! I buy the rebuild kit from The CTSC in California. They have the best prices for those parts in North America from what I've seen. Oil pan can usually be purchased elsewhere for a bit less if you look around.
It's a wire mesh...I can't quite visualize what is meant by "filling it"? FYI, if memory serves, CTSC was started or is run by a number of former ZF employees, which hopefully gives their products a slight extra edge over any competition.
😂 No I work on this at night time after work. Check out Part 1, I explain that if the car is available for purchase, just buy it. The thing is that you cannot buy an F31 335i in North America, only a 328i or 328d. 335i wagon was in the European market.
As someone that also did a swap like this you kinda just find the time. I would go out in the garage from 9-11 after putting my kids to bed. It's like anything, you find the time to be motivated and there no replacement for just getting out there.

you won't disappoint again, can t wait for part 3!
Thanks for your support my friend. I remember since my first few videos. Can't wait to get this wagon up and running!
Good progress, good work, enjoying the series!
Hi if you want I can help you with the DME , I can change the ISN from 2.8i DME to 3.5i DME to be able to start the car

Send me the both internal eeprom from the Dme , and I will change it for you and you will write it with Acdp

Thank you very much. I managed to write the N20 ISN onto the N55 DME but still having issues. What is your contact?

Very good job, waiting for the new video, greetings from Spain.

I hope you've figured out the things about the gearbox before installing it in the car. Waiting for part 3!

Great tip, I’ll try that next time. Thanks! And I never worked at a dealership, this is more of a hobby for me. Glad you enjoy the videos!

Please finish the project want to swap my 528i 🙏
Don’t worry, project is going well. Just haven’t had a lot of time as I’ve been busy with other jobs. Part 3 in the next two week probably!
Bro where is the part 3? its been 3 months already :(

@@MrWarGawd The mesh will wick the fluid fluid inside itself.
Where did you get the lift you using
Hello
Great vid
Do you have some issue on the gearbox for change solénoïd?
No, the car did not run so I am not sure of the state of the transmission, but I changed them anyway so everything is fresh when we get it started.
Should of b58 swap with a entire moon and front cooling system
Pwg or ewg ?
EWG. If you want, go check out Part 1 where I talk about the turbo upgrade that I did so we can push more power out of this thing.
Bro,how much did it cost you to do the conversion??
Not done yet, but it is a very expensive project lol. At the end of the series I will discuss costs.
I don’t understand how these people have this much time available. Are they unemployed? It’s cheaper to sell this and buy the desired car 😂😂😂
