@Sebastian Nicholas Practice more my guy, I learned it with 2 dressing gown ties when I was 9. Do it a few times and you'll be sick at it man, good luck. 🍀
6 months, still in either SOI or whatever MOS school. Trust me, you wont need it anymore. Actually thats a lie, barracks shenanigans never cease to amaze.
You never know. I didn't remember, found this refresher, which I can now use to Aussie a steep hillside that cries for a weed wacker. I couldn't get to a lot of it, because my boots have no traction. Now, I can.
Thanks Dude! I went through air assault training as a helicopter pilot so I could see what the infantry was being taught so I could better work with them. You provided an excellent demonstration and we can see why you are an instructor! Carry on!
I used to run near side on the rope bridge when I was in JROTC at Raider Competitions in the early 00's Our school won the South East for a bunch of years. Those were some of my greatest memories.
Was an instructor at Ft. Benning in '71 and '72 and taught rappelling with the "swiss seat". Same as this method. We also tied them in reverse to allow for Australian style repelling (face first). This was before Fast Rope. We we would slack jump from a helicopter (50-60 ft). Toss out 20 feet, release from an L sitting position on the skid, hit the 20 ft and slide the reminder with the brake hand. More fun then you can imagine.
From your experience, is he using static or dynamic rope for that seat? Is it 3/8 or 7/16 size? When you were doing the aussie repel, did you also incorporate a chest harness? Can't find anything specific on the topic, your experience and insight is appreciated. Tango mike!
For everyone saying boner, it's not. I remember very well how tight the rope comes around the package that it juts the fabric forward. It's like sitting kakis x10
No it’s not a boner it’s a combination of how tight he’s got it cinched up and the way BDUs are made. Having it tight around your groin is an extremely critical point to remember while using this. you want to make damn sure that it’s tight around your package because if you don’t you’ll end up cutting your balls off as soon as you’re boots leave the rappelling tower. I remember seeing it happen at ft. benning back in the late 90’s and it certainly left a lasting impression on me to say the least. Squat. Pull. Repeat and gate down so you don’t fuck up.
Thanks for posting this. I’d forgotten everything after “get a rope.” Air assault 1991! ETS’ed less than 30 days later, lol. It was either air assault school or clean trucks coming back from Iraq.
Thanks, I'm going up a tree is this now. I learned how to make a swiss seat in the army in the 80s. Thirty years ago I used this regularly for civilian climbing and repelling after getting the climbing rope set up. Some climber decided to give me shit for it. I guess he had to justify spending a couple hundred bucks on his fancy harness. I see someone said they did this in reverse for Australian repelling but all I was ever taught wrap the rope twice around your waist then I think a square knot and a couple half hitches. I was not particularly fond of the Australian method on my first attempt which was from a skid mounted to the tower.
Been reading the army small unit tactics handbook and they go into this method but it was something i would have to see to learn. Thanks for making the video, very clear instructions.
Thanks, now when I'm done doing my homework and stuff in middle school, I'm just going to get a rope, do that knot and rappel down to my friend and scare the living crap out of him.
That is normal for a Swiss seat. 60 Seconds to tie is nice, I remember when we had to meet the 30 second standard to pass AirAssault. Good Video, Wish I had the chance to do Repel Master course.

I still have scars from my swiss seat in Air Assault school. Thank you Fort Campbell.
Thomas W I’m gonna go there 😬
Must not have tied it right
Was thinking the same!
Yale knot!
Stand Turn Bend place your brake hand on your head and sound off with what you wanna be.
We had to tie this once in basic, forgot it almost immediately after, thanks for the refresher.

No one says carry on as an accolade. It's weird and a little demeaning.

@@johnkeo358 assuming dynamic Sampson braid would be more fitting. Also 6’ of rope required for average waistline.

If people don't realize this, that's crazy, but I was not ready for that
I know Im late to the party but just seen for the first time. I knew it wasn't, yet I still couldn't stop laughing because im an immature old man :)
Rappel ropes are tight but after airborne school, I don't need birth controls
Couhgt my wife watching this video over and over and over and over and over, again.

Came for the thumbnail, not regretting it
lmfao
Came again from the thumbnail.
That’s a nice tight harness ya got yerself there, sir!
The thumbnail brought me here. Because I knew you were doing it right.
Is that true, or were you admiring his behind
Are you kidding me with that thumbnail?
Hahahahahahahaha
But Seeearnt
“It’s a beaut’ Clark!” 😉
He should’ve made 1.37 the thumbnail
The last time I used a "Swiss Seat" was Air Assault School. After that it was just a rigger's belt and a locking carabiner.
Oh yeah, his carabiner is definitely pointing up.
Last time I made rappel seat was 1997. I tried tying one and was kind of close. Thanks Devil Dog for the lesson!!!

Thanks for the demo. I'm sure you will never live this down.
That swiss seat would tighten you up in all the right places. Don't miss that. Good ol Ft. Campbell.

How much rope is needed to make a Swiss Seat. The Army told us how to figure it out but I have forgot. But I was in my teens and now 71 years old.
Maybe tie the Swiss seat around you make sure it's tight and from there cut the length required
I suspect that if you're like the rest of us old farts, it will take more rope than it did when we were in our teens... :)
I think we used 6 feet of rope. My training was at Huck Creek survival/mountaineering school in Washington State circa 1988.
Yup, 6 feet... I tried it again 6 feet did the trick, idk if you’ll need mejore if your waist line has increased.
You measure out two, full arm lengths
HRST, that was fun. I when thought the course in ‘12 when it was SOTG.
Thanks for the video i did air assualt school at fort hood back in 1992 so its been a awhile so i was trying to remember. Thanks
Could you show how the repel line goes as well? Thanks
Carabiner is upside down. Screw down, so you down screw up. Also, should tell type and length of rope
Hahahahaha captain hard on
Thanks dude! I am going to marine boot camp in 2 days and will update this comment after I complete it!
1:38 correction: this is now nice and hard
Oh lord 🤣😂😂😂
this was the part of basic where you find out who the idiots are
Thank you for this. Definitely saving this for later;)
What a legendary thumbnail
our instructor said if you can still breath after the squat its too loose
How many feet of rope do we need again?? SEMPER FI brothers
12'-15', just watched another how to and they said.
And that's how you pitch a tent 😂
Am I the only person using this for logging and not military work?
What length of rope is this approximately
12-15 feet
6’ or 2 meters of rope.
I recall the rope being 12' feet, is that correct?
12-15 feet
Chris Powell : That was what I thought. But my waist size is now doubled.
Do you know the general rule because I have forgotten it??
6’ or 2 meters required for average waistline.
I can’t with these military rappel videos 😅😂
Great instruction!!
Also damn that cake!! 😮
also that gun
Nice thumbnail/beginning picture
Yessssss
Do you have a video of the 60 second requirement to tie it?
You didn't tuck the trailing ends into you pocket. Or is that a new thing?
Y'all are down bad for coming here because of the thumbnail
Lol those tightening squats are the most important step for the guys..
crotch arrangement very important in badeball
Static or dinamic rope? And whats a diammeter rope? Please I need date
It's a 10.1 Sterling marathon, so technically dynamic. Unsure if it's dry treated though
Is that a carabiner in your pocket or are just happy to see me?
It is a boner in his pants
That thumbnail is crazy
Man i just came here to say you did NOT have to pic what you did as the cover picture for this video
Thanks, now when I'm done doing my homework and stuff in middle school, I'm just going to get a rope, do that knot and rappel down to my friend and scare the living crap out of him.
I imagine it's got like 90 %women volunteering for " #RopeClass "😁🤣🤣☝️👆
Air assault is not in fact just “rope class” and many of the best men go through it
COME ON DOUBLE ZERO. Don't worry its just the pleats
Great thumbnail
Lmao
Sterling Marathon 10.1
Yes, I'm definitely gay.
I enjoyed this a lot....

Great video. How long is the rope
Sling ropes for rappel seats are typically 15'.
I learned this today in Raiders for JROTC
jreboton12 same but like a week ago
jreboton12 i’m trying to learn it because we’re like 3 weeks in and i haven’t been going in at lunch to learn it with everyone else
ben eadie It took me a while but it gets easier. During competitions we have to do it in under a minute

Where would this be tied to a riggers belt?
Idk why I thought it was sum type of chair legs

9/16” (14.3mm)
Aren't you supposed to secure the half hitches that bisect your rear trouser pockets before moving onto the square knot on your left hip ?
EOTG Climbers I mean run the working end of the rope back through them and actually tie a knot in them. Secure them.
Is that u Willard
No
Yes, I thought so too. It's been a lot of years but I sure thought it was wrong when watching. Maybe this was change number 3 million 47?

How long is that rope?
15ft
Good thing thickness here ain't on a ship

Sling ropes for rappel seats are typically 15' long and 11mm in diameter.
So... this is the shibari thing that everyone is talking about....
It’s actually called a “Swiss Seat”.....💪🤙
How many feet of rope is that ?
Sling ropes for rappel seats are typically 15'.
wtf is that erection after the squats
Joe Barlow 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
That is normal for a Swiss seat. 60 Seconds to tie is nice, I remember when we had to meet the 30 second standard to pass AirAssault. Good Video, Wish I had the chance to do Repel Master course.
It's obviously an erection...
Get Hard .... definitely Airborne
I do not miss this cutting the sweet life out of my lower body
Moreira? Parece brasileira. Usou essa cadeirinha onde? Machucou bastante?
Could of just tied a triple bowline for a harness.
the thumbnail is the most zesty thing ive seen all day
Other video was a 14 year old, I think I’ll watch this one.
what is that red sybol on his right hand...i think this guy has been assimilated.
That's a stamp from the club on the strip the night before.
Looks like a burn that just coincidentally reassembled the international symbol for poverty and tyranny
That looks so fucking uncomfortable lol god bless anyone that needs to use this
came here for the tittle, stayed for the comments. hahaha
What kind of rope is that?
Probably an 11mm dynamic climbing rope.
This should be renamed the Deez Nuts Seat
I wonder if he ever watched his own video 😳 would he give it a thumb up👍🤣😅😂
Lucky rope! :)
Now do it under 90 seconds lol
*battle of the bulge*

does is matter if its static or dynamic rope?
Not really, but dynamic ropes are easier to tie knots in.
Be sure to rappel on a static line.

Wow. That rope is too long. Too much for me to manoeuvre.😉
