I’ve always found the criticism that Ethan is greedy for focusing on the podcast over the main channel because it makes more money so funny. To be fair, Shoenice definitely was an alcoholic. Especially if his liver was failing. But props to the guy for being 30 days sober, hopefully he keeps it up.
It's pretty hard to compare shoenice to someone that is having a severe mental breakdown and at risk of ending their own life though. The reason being is that we've never seen Shoenice act "normal." He's always a little wacky whether he's intoxicated or not and he uses that aspect of himself to entertain people. That's not the same as someone who isn't aware that they're being taken advantage of while they're physically and mentally breaking down and in their sober mind, would never allow themselves to be seen like that.

Ethan was not suggesting Shoenice wasn't/isn't an alcoholic. They even talked about him being in AA. The point was that Gokanaru was being patronizing and reducing him to nothing more than some sad helpless "raging alcoholic" who needs protecting. Shoenice is definitely crazy, but he doesn't need protecting. He's not being exploited. Whether Ethan engages with him or not, he's going to continue being Shoenice. And the only reason he's a recurring presence on the show is because he does everything in his power to remain a part of it. The main thing about youtubers, especially podcasts, is that there's something being built, there's recurrent themes, internal jokes. Sometimes the context of something said is not just in that single video, is a body of work.
Abso-fricken-lutely, the whole point Goka made on Jimmy Lee was so bad, most of the H3 podcast fan base at the time were still fans from their main channel and knew who Jimmy Lee was, so their interaction on the podcast was based on previous interactions on their other channel. Re-watching the Goka video along with Ethan you realise how many points he made were moot or speculation presented as fact.
Furthermore, take any podcast host and try to tell me that they were a great host straight out the gate.

Joe Kerr basically, to add to Brad’s point about context and a body of work, Asman mentioned that this episode is reminiscent of Endgame, bringing in familiar faces from episodes past, coming together to defend Ethan, like the heroes came in to defend reality, humanity, and the world in Endgame. Also, like Endgame, if you’ve watched every episode of the Podcast, this video is better, knowing all of the context from the past. Though it’s comprehensive on its own as well (more similarly to Infinity War in that regard, but Endgame in the others). I love this video. Feels like a lot of hanging dread and weight from mistakes of old have been righted. Plot lines fulfilled, and Ethan’s character has grown so much over the course of the podcast. He’s willing to own up to his mistakes, and he calls people out for their bullshit when they get it wrong. He’s a human being who makes mistakes, he doesn’t talk down to anyone who doesn’t warrant it like Gokanaru did, he doesn’t deflect criticism and say, “it’s all lies!” Like Keem, he owns up to some criticism, dispels others because they’re opinions and speculation, and defends himself when someone lies about him in an attempt to “assassinate” his character. Gokanaru took the shot, but his arrow was broken, and his arguments missed at nearly every turn, built on selective truth and assumption, coming off as an edge lord on his high horse, speaking of shut he knows nothing about like it’s the truth. So many people clamber to this video as defense when criticizing H3 and Ethan, and now that he’s addressed it, he’s proved them all wrong. He can take criticism, and he’s not a manipulative devil like Gokanaru said. Don’t tell someone else how to live their life, as if you could’ve lived it better for them. This is the end of a chapter in Ethan’s life, and a conclusion to some loose ends.

Chapter 7 is how his jokes are damaging and almost hypnotic with how repetitive he is, and 8 is how he gassed up Shoenice with fake promises to join the "Goof gang" and never following up. He glossed over his darkest moments and undermined the criticism.
I encourage you to find and watch the original Gokanaru video. Its comprehensive, well crafted (and flawwed for being from a newer creator), and spot on

Well the Gokanaru video has for the most part been debunked by H3H3, at the time of its inception their was no denial of its legitimacy from H3 their-self. Even H3 admits he did wrong throughout his career and people do take note of those mistakes. Do I think hes conniving no. However he would be wise to acknowledge his mistakes before people use them to discredit his platform.
