    This is very good I made it for dinner with red beans rice. It has a nice light cake texture with the cornmeal coming through. I did add 2 tablespoon vegetable oil. It is very moist and the family ate the whole 8x8 pan. Please note if you are baking with convection mine was done at 25 minutes. Thank you for this recipe it has been added to my recipe book.

    Tried this recipe but added about 1 tablespoon honey to the batter. I also cooked it at 375 F for about 20 minutes in a cast iron skillet. Turned out good.

    I love cornbread. In my life there is no sweet potatoes without cornbread. There is no red bean and rice without a piece of cornbread. And there is not a bowl of milk without a couple pieces of crumble up cornbread. Thanks for sharing your recipe.

    Can we make it with any milk or does it have to be buttermilk? I love cornbread and that cornbread looks amazing!!!

    • @eleanordakin6328

      don't worry!! you can easily make buttermilk by adding a teaspoon to a tablespoon of acid (vinegar, lemon juice, etc.) to regular milk, wait a couple of minutes. now you've got buttermilk! it adds lovely richness to your cornbread!

    • @kerihon1949
      @kerihon1949 7 років тому +1

      lennie hilt if you use dark color pans then you can cook your cornbread faster because dark color pan absorb heat faster and longer

    I hate buttermilk! Is there a substitute?

    • @FifteenSpatulas
      @FifteenSpatulas  8 років тому +4

      My mother-in-law had this cornbread and was saying she liked my cornbread because it didn't have buttermilk in it (she doesn't like buttermilk) and then I was like, but there is buttermilk in it! So, there's a chance you'd still like it anyway. She didn't taste it. You can also do the milk and vinegar substitute but it's not quite the same.
