    I bought this bass, untried, mainly due to this review. And what a bass!

    Love that fat second tone with the bridge pickup. What a monster of an instrument!

    Hi, Nick. It's been a while!
    Gorgeous instrument, and what a clean tone.
    I agree with you in the "instruments that do the job" bit.
    Also, your reviews and demos are killer. You really showcase very well all the instruments, and not yourself. Your mixing of fast and slow paced bits are exactly what is needed in videos like these, I think.
    Good to see you back!
    Cheers!

      I could have talked forever about this thing! And despite trying to keep it short, it's still the longest bass demo video I've done... Haha! :)

    But how does it sound in the context of a band, though? Does it sit well in a mix like a pbass can? Thanks for the awesome review. 👊

    • @helloitsnicko
      @helloitsnicko  4 роки тому +1

      Good question, I've never used one in a band context. It can do pretty much anything though so frankly I'd be incredibly surprised if it was difficult to sit in a mix.

  • @BradMaestas
    @BradMaestas 5 років тому

    It sounds nice. I just don't really like the looks of it. It seems like a C bout is there for no good reason other than to make it look like a gamba-style double bass ie. style over function. That said, I don't at all mind a single-cut bass - my main bass is an Imperial MG - and I haven't seen them for very long. Maybe it'll grow on me?

    Fantastic review, Nick! Glad to see you're back. If you absolutely had to describe something negative about this bass, what would that be?

    • @helloitsnicko
      @helloitsnicko  6 років тому +1

      Well, there is one thing that I genuinely forgot to mention. The strap button is a bit inconvenient. It's on the back of the bass and my strap fell off a few times. That being said, I'm sure if you have the right kind of strap, it wouldn't be an issue... but uh... that's honestly it. I'm sat here scratching my head trying to think of anything else. I guess the only other potential negative comes from the context in which you think about the design of this bass. The way it looks is so "out-there" that it probably would be out of place on stage in some styles of music, like, I can't imagine Paramore or Ariana Grande's bassist playing one of these. So it's not necessarily the most realistically usable looking instrument maybe if you're in the live session world? But if you're a solo bassist with or without a band, or in a jazz band, or classical ensemble, it would be awesome for sure. That isn't really a negative is it though? It all depends on the context like I said. So uh yeah the strap button. That's about it. Haha!
      EDIT: Forgot to say thanks for the kind words! My name's Nick though. Hahaha!

    Does it djent?

    • @helloitsnicko
      @helloitsnicko  6 років тому +1

      Hahahaha. Ya know what, I bet it does. I didn't test that as I don't have the gear for it. But I bet if you have the bass on the setting in the third demo clip (1:30), play with a pick, through the pedals / rig required for dj0nT, it would be thunderous.

    • @musicbruise
      @musicbruise 6 років тому

      I absolutely believe that. I'm just an amateur guitarist, but I've mucked around with tones, rigs, various virtual setups, and all around rigs, physical and virtual, and I absolutely believe that this instrument has all the potential to have an incredibly chunky, rough, and full sounding thud to leave the next periphery track with something to be desired. Much love, though, Nolly. Such a versatile sounding bass guitar

      Yeah you're right. When I was testing my new setup a couple of days ago the natural light through my window seemed like plenty. But here's the the thing... the weather was miserable yesterday, dark and gloomy all day. So I did the best I could with what the sky dealt me! Need some lights so I can avoid any issues again. :)
