  • Are you looking for tips and tricks for plowing deep snow along the East Coast? Look no further! In early March, we finally got hit with a good winter storm after a mild winter with very little snow on the ground. We got about 28cm of good East Coast snow with snow drifts after a windy evening, which meant it was time to put my side by side and new snow plow kit to the test.
Using my Can-Am Defender with a 66 inch promount snow plow kit, I had the machine on 4-low with the differential lock on, and after shoveling the front decks, it was time to clear out the rest of the driveway. But plowing deep snow can be a challenge, especially along the East Coast where we tend to get heavy, wet snow that can be difficult to move.
Here are some tips and tricks for plowing deep snow along the East Coast:
Take it slow and steady - When plowing deep snow, it's important to take it slow and steady. Don't try to rush through it, as this can cause the snow to pile up in front of your plow and make it difficult to move. Instead, take your time and make sure you're pushing the snow to the side in a controlled manner.
Adjust the height of your plow blade - Depending on the depth of the snow, you may need to adjust the height of your plow blade. If the snow is really deep, you may need to raise the blade to prevent it from getting stuck or catching on the ground. If the snow is more shallow, you may need to lower the blade to ensure that you're clearing as much snow as possible.
Use your machine's differential lock - If your machine has a differential lock, be sure to engage it when plowing deep snow. This will help to ensure that both wheels are moving at the same speed, which can improve traction and help you to move through the snow more easily.
Don't forget about your surroundings - When plowing deep snow, it's important to be mindful of your surroundings. Make sure you're not plowing snow onto sidewalks, driveways, or roads. You should also be aware of any obstacles or hazards in your path, such as curbs or rocks.
Overall, plowing deep snow along the East Coast can be a challenge, but with the right techniques and equipment, it can be done effectively and efficiently. So next time you're faced with a big snowstorm, remember these tips and tricks to help you tackle the snow and keep your driveway and property clear.

Most people wait too long or wait until the snow is over before they plow. I plow at 7 inches whether the snow is done or not. Much easier to control snow if it doesn't come over the plow's top edge. Suggest you install a 8" rubber strip across the top of the blade to help keep the plow more efficient.

100% - you are in Michigan or Great Lakes area? Out here in Nova Scotia it’s a mixed bag(I wished I was back in northern Canada where the snow is consistent) . I do follow your recommendation about 6-8 inches , but in this video it was overnight. I didn’t upload the dump we got last month which was the heavy stuff. So the rubber strip… is that at the bottom of the blade or do you mean the pvc pipe hack? The freeze/thaw this year is wreaking havoc on the driveway.

It was a beauty snowfall to plow. Glad I did my driveway early while it was still cold, it got mild and the snow got heavy fast.

I was surprised we got the rain around 1-2am but it fluffed up darn quick after that. Glad the drift wasn’t bad for the shoveling parts 🤣

You really do need a 60" front mounted snowblower for your sxs... no joke.

Not gonna lie; I have sourced a blower options for the SxS…. Want to see when I’d need it (snow conditions) before making the investment. So far, the plow is doing ok with what we got so far last few seasons.

Hi Nathan - was using this one, but the model had foam brish on both sides. the new one has an actual brish on one side and foam on the other. One of the better ones I've had last few years www.canadiantire.ca/en/pdp/reflex-ice-eva-snow-brush-ice-scraper-61-in-0304223p.0304223.html?loc=plp
