Once you enter the Specimen Preservation Lab, you will first need to activate the lasers. You can do so by going up the stairs in interacting with the doors until you can activate the switch. Head back down after eliminating the enemies and angle your lasers so that the beam touches the large orb. Careful not to hit the pods, as enemies will emerge from them.
