I could listen to Murray talk about his experience in F1 for hours and hours. A man that is responsible for millions of people's love of Formula 1 (including my own) and a true role model for those who want to share their own passion of the sport.
He made the sport in my view, watching the classic f1 races, it's good to hear that voice talking about f1 if occasionally getting it wrong.....in his own unique way 😎👍

Silverstone should name a corner in his honor. Murray made many of us passionate about the sport when we just started watching. Always warms my heart to hear him.

Remarkable fact : Kimi is the only current driver on the grid that Murray did TV commentary on . He did partial commentary of Alonso's and Raikkonen's rookie season and his last TV commentary before retirement was Mika Hakkinen's last win. He did also of course commentate on Max's dad. Where has all that time gone.
He did a one off radio commentary back in 2007 (European gp) for bbc 5 live though. So he has commentated for Hamilton albeit not on tv.

I just checked his age on wikipedia - apparently 95! That made me want to see if he was older or younger than Nicholas Parsons, also going strong, and it appears they are exactly the same age to the day - both born on 10th October 1923!

At the halfway point of this year’s Silverstone race, put Murray’s image and ‘With half the race gone...’ quote on all the boards and screens to pay tribute. He had a fantastic sense of humour and it’s an affectionate reminder of a legend.

This man is a legend. I'm from Uruguay and thanks to the Internet I discovered BBC broadcasts and I could listen to him, absolutely brilliant.

I sometimes search out clips of 80’s F1 and the best part is hearing Murray and James. Hearing his voice takes me back 30 years and is a big part of my memories of growing up. Thank you Murray ❤️.

As a young formula one fan who hasn't been watching for many years, hearing all the insight on older generations of F1 was amazing!

We need someone like Murray with the passion like he had. Crofty and brundel aren’t bad but they repeat so much junk during boring moments
There's something special about Murray Walker. Crofty tends to shout his commentary, and Martin Brundle still does a great job.
Murray was a fan, Crofty it's a job. If Murray could see a potential battle or overtake coming you could hear the excitement in his voice, with Crofty he'll just be speaking monotone till it happens and then shout. just be like "Ricciardo is in the DRS... he's getting closer, closer.. AND DOOWN THE INSIDE GOES RICCIARDO!!!!!"
Legit Brundle repeats "They have to be careful not to throw the visor strips in the intake" at least once a race. Does he forget he has said it earlier?

Brundle is okay. Crofty is objectively bad, he made so many mistakes during first race this year and he's been doing this for years.

Noel McGovern same. I remembered when he was criticised for shouting in one race. Now look where things have gone. He was sadly cursed with being the commentator after Murray which is probably why he wasn’t as liked as he deserved to be.

Murray brought to life some of the biggest names in F1 and a lot of the smaller names. He will forever remain in my heart as the voice of F1.

@@keyboardwarrior327 if someone invents a time machine then go back to the 50's and get Fangio then take him to 2002 and put him on the grid in a Ferrari, he will be last on the grid 5 seconds off schumachers pace, it was basically a novice sport when Fangio won, if you qualified 5 seconds off him then you would still be 3rd or 4th on the grid lol

This was the first "Beyond The Grid" I listened to, I plan to catch up on all of them, but I think I started with the right one. Listening to Murray talk about almost anything is so mesmerizing and calming. Looking forward to the rest of them!

I was born in 97 and so don’t remember the brilliant days of Murray’s commentary. But, according to my mum, I was mesmerised by Murray’s voice as a toddler. What an absolutely legend! 🏎
