Of course I really like the interviews with the drivers, but my favorites are the ones with engineers, managers, team leaders, etc because they bring another point of view of racing, technical issues, backstage and paddock. You could invite mechanics and ex-mechanics too, they certainly have good information and another perspective from the world of motorsport to give us.

Honestly, one of the most fascinating interviews I have heard for a vey long time. Also to me he seems to be a very sympathetic man, which is not evident given his profession / function. wonder if he ever writes his biography?!

Brilliant interview!!! Great insight about Senna & Prost's relationship. Thank you for your comments on the Senna movie about Prost. As much as a Senna fan that I am, I thought Prost was not portrayed correctly. I am glad that Prost was recognized at the end of the movie as being a Trustee of the Ayrton Senna Foundation, but it was too little, too late, IMO. But, I am glad to hear how much Ayrton respected Prost. They both benefitted greatly from their intense rivalry together at McLaren. I am glad that I was able to see these races live at the time and to truly appreciate what the two of them have done for the sport.

After having heard both Alain Prost and Julian's accounts on Senna vs Prost.. It became very clear to me that, while they were rivals.. it wasn't neaaaarly as bad as the media had made it out to be. I also love how Senna's dealings with Mclaren and Williams in 1992 lines up entirely with Mika's recount that he was suppose to drive for Mclaren in 1992, provided Senna going to Williams... but then came back to Mclaren and Mika got benched as reserve/test driver

Great interview, thanks Gents. At about 1 hr Mr Jakobi poses the question regarding Perez performance at McLaren "when has a new driver arrived and defeated an incumbent" he supposes only Ayrton has managed it. There is a much later example where a driver arrived at a team and defeated an entrenched 4 time champion and clear #1 driver; Daniel Ricciardo beating Vettel at Red Bull in 2014. Mr Jakobi also neatly skirts the question of Ocon in 2018 by referring to Force India being in financial trouble. I guess after all his loyalty is to Checo so it goes with the territory.

If Senna would’ve moved to Williams in 92”. Will probably be talking about the statistically greatest driver of all time. Just think would’ve won 92,93,94(if he was alive), 95, 96 and maybe of retired in 97 with another championship. All speculation though and Benetton was great in 94, 95 and Ferrari in 97 with Michael. Would’ve been phenomenal to see Michael vs prime Senna. Wow.

Fantastic interview. I've loved Beyond the grid since the first episode. It's so insightful and Tom is a brilliant journalist. I won't be listening to F1 Nation though. I did listen to the first episode and surprisingly I didn't like it :( I found it more like listening to some podcast aimed at teens. Ooooh will George answer Rosanna's phone call. Cringe. I get why it's important because F1 wants the younger fans, who will stay fans for years (I began watching F1 aged 14 in the 90's). But I think Tom Clarkson should be spared and just let that F1 gaming commentator get on with it. Tom is like an FT reporter of the motor racing world... so it feels weird having him participate in what feels like cringy teen content.
