A few years ago I walked into my local GC and in the used section there was a Marshall MG15 with a price tag of $9.95. At first I thought it was a mistake. It looked brand new. Gave it a thorough check out. It worked perfectly. Obviously I bought it. Later I put a Celestion Eight-15 in it. Still have no idea why it was so cheap.
Dig your groove on your info on the amp. Even more so on your playing info combined with the amp. Not many musicians show how to use the amp with the guitar playing. Much appreciated bro. Keep em coming
The MG15G has a serious problem with hiss (or "white noise") coming from the amp even with the volume all the way down and nothing plugged into it. The noise only gets worse as you turn up the volume; it's almost loud enough to compete with the sound of your guitar. This is a KNOWN ISSUE for these amps, and the problem has nothing to do with the power source, grounding, or any other common culprit. It's the amp. And, so far, I've found no solution for it in the various forums I've looked through. Buyer beware.
@@fivepiece "That's a peculiar tract of old Marshall. They DO hiss! You have to learn to live with that..." ~ comment on the gearspace forum from 2009 As far as I'm concerned, no hiss, no Marshall.
I bought one. It's clean channel is rather hissy (Marshall dismisses that as normal). The clean channel is also a little too dark for my Strat, but great for a jazz tone - playing an LP or ES. I love the overdrive channel dialled in to a near break up clean sound (Quite Fender valve like). It's great as a platform for pedals. A distorted tone setting on the OD channel also sounds great. It's quite a raw amp but has lots of character. The EQ affects the volume, and turning up the tone controls makes it louder. It does tend to lose some tonal dimension cranked, but a great portable practice amp. Well worth the money for a practice amp.
Nice analysis of this amp, I agree with what you said. This amp does take pedals well and the clean does lean on the darker side. Great value for the cost here.
hi, i know its been a year since this comment but im a complete noob getting into guitar and eventually want to build up to playing stuff like jazz and neo-soul. ive been looking around everywhere what cheapish amp is good to start with and there’s a couple like both the boss katana mini and the boss katana 50 that seem universally loved, but then the marshall mg15 seems to be almost universally hated, everyone says its bad. So now im confused by you saying this amp would be great for a jazz tone, how do u feel about that a year later? i also have to say i personally just love the look of marshall amps, even though that shouldnt be too much of a factor
I love mine. I run a Metal Zone and JTS Reverb, Delay, Flanger and a Boss EQ in my rig. It’s perfect. Thinking of adding an output jack for larger cabs and a switch for the green/red channels. Move some air with a 4x12 cab, easy mod. It’s plenty loud and has that Marshall tone. Can’t go wrong for $100
Thanks for letting me know, I haven't tried the 30fx yet. I have noticed that the older Marshalls practice amps sound a bit better. I think they may be using cheaper parts as time goes on.
I got a Marshall MG 15 amp for my birthday 4 years ago. Plus I also have a Korg G3 guitar performance processor and Ernie Ball Jr volume pedals that I plug my Squier Stratocasters into.
The worst thing about the MG-15 is the speaker. Mod in a output jack in the back and output it to a 2x12 or similar and it transforms it from a small practice amp with kinda harsh treble into an absolute beast. You can add a toggle switch to swap between stock speaker and cab if necessary. Both simple mods and so worth it.
Great demo, thanks. The auxiliary inputs are very handy (if it behaves the same as on my Orange Crush 35 rt). They are like having another channel. So for example when I plug in my Roland groove box the controls on the amp including volume have no effect on the sounds from the groovebox. So you control them from the groovebox itself. You can plug in a mixer even so the amp is a mini pa. I gave my Orange crush away and this looks like a good replacement. I would however miss the built in tuner and the effects loop.
Undoubtedly an amazing amp.. My Marshall 10W has a line out.. can the headphone jack be used as as line out if connected to a 1/4'' Jack to the PA system / mixer?
Is it normal that it has a hiss sound on both clean and overdrive? Even when the guitar is not actually plugged in, as soon as volume goes above 1/4 to 1/3 I get it. Sorry for the dumb question but I’ve just switched to electric and I don’t know anything about amps :)
Well, since 'Mister Algo Rithm" has sent me back here, I'll leave a comment. The Marshall MG 15g sounds like a good solid state representation of the 'Marshall Sound,' much like Fender's solid state amps do the same for their sound. But Marshall does a far better job at cleans than Fender does at distortion.
How bad is the hiss sound? Would it be too annoying as time went by? And is the hiss sound same on the headphones output? Whats the quality of headphones output? Sorry for the questionnaire haha
Headphone quality is good, the hiss doesn't go away unless you lower the gain a bit. If you are using a distortion pedal you may get less hiss. It's mainly from the preamp being pushed so hard.
Thank you, I have been practicing Japanese for 2 years now. I am glad I could say the greeting right. Thank you for your kind words. I am glad you liked my video!

Buy a boss metalzone pedal and put ot into any clean channel amp, get biggest secondhand amp you can,
big speakers are generally better.

Both would work great. I'd try both and see what you like, I think the BlackStars are a bit heavier and chunkier.
