The reason why you are the only family playing the slides is exactly the high temperature. Locals only do that in the late afternoon when it gets cooler. Here we arrange our activities pretty much to the weather.
Depends on what you want to get out of Taiwan, different seasons offer a vastly different experience. Spring and fall are more pleasant temperature wise but not as many fruits are in season. Summer offers the most variety of fruits but it’s obviously that it will be hot and moist.
Summers in Taiwan are very hot. Taiwan only has summer and winter, and due to the humidity, the temperature feels even higher. Please drink plenty of water and try to avoid being outdoors between 10 AM and 3 PM to prevent heatstroke. I think the food Adam is referring to are called the Pepper Buns（胡椒餅）which is different from what you had, which are called Steam-Fried Buns (水煎包）
