There is nothing wrong with his English. He just has an asian accent and he speaks English slowly. English should be spoken slowly so that each and every word is pronounciated and heard clearly (unlike the English of the English upper class where you are allowed to mumble and bumble through your words). Just because he is a Pakistani, it does not mean that we can and we should find fault with him.

But, your COAS has to be groomed and trained to be equal to the job.
His competence in English is checked through an examination at the recruitment stage and that's where your system appears to be flawed.
Agreeing for a moment that proficiency in English is not required, then he would have spoken in urdu and get it translated to Chinese. Your army clearly has skewed priorities and doesn't do it's homework well.
Compare him with our newly recruited non commissioned officer, not with modi.

English is a language like any other language and should not be confused with intelligence. Those who criticize Gen. Asim Munir suffer from self-hate and are ashamed of their cultural heritage. General Asim should be respected for his achievements!
I thik it's General Munir who suffers from self hate since he cannot bring himself to speak in one of the languages of Pakistan but chooses to speak haltingly in broken accented English to the Chinese leader who clearly does not speak English. It would seen General Munir is ashamed of his own cultural heritage ! I hope at some point, this video is played at staff colleges for the military in Pakistan for them to understand the importance of preserving one's dignity abroad. Is there no one in Pakistan who can advise the army chief about optics and how such incidents are seen and interpreted in the world. True one can never please everyone and there are others who will always find fault but this video clearly shows a monumental lack of understanding about the basic tenets of decorum and image. Those of us who respect and love the Pak military feel slighted when our military leaders carry themselves in a manner which is not worthy of their station. Everyone needs to understand his or her limitations. He cannot speak English properly and neither can he pronounce words properly. Big deal - undertstand this fact and accept it. Now the ADC should tell him not to speak in English but speak in Urdu, Pashtu, Punjabi or any other Pakistani language and have his comments conveyed directly via an interpreter. I was recently at a function in the US where an address was given by the Turkish leader - it was in Turkish with subtitles in English because the Pakistani audience could not understand Turkce. He came across confident and well spoken. Someone has to have the guts to tell our leaders both civilian and military the obvious.

If he can't speak English, why would he insist on speaking a language he can't communicate in with another individual who also does not speak English? I am not talking about mimicking an English, Scotch or Irish accent or speaking in an American accent ( actually there are different American accents too). Anyone with self respect would speak in his own language comfortably - not make a fool of himself insisting on speaking a language he can't speak - that's the point I am making. Great military leaders surround themselves by great advisors and he shold take them in confidence. Like many a Pakistani, I admire my military and I wish to see it projected as a solid professional and competent institution in the world. The one who has the "gora complex" is you who insists that Pakistanis who don't know English should still speak a language that they are not equipped to speak.
