Cool seeing a relatively unloved car get this kinda work. I love the search for 'compatible' parts, I had no idea MR-S parts could make an AE101 rack faster. Would make for a funny replacement in some kinda uber sleeper Geo Prizm.
After putting rose joints on the suspension and poly everywhere else, I will do that to any car I own going forward! Removing deflection from the suspension arms made the coilovers ride even better!
Man, your video gives such a cool vibe. I just Love it! The music, the montage and you seem chill AF. Lol And it's cool to see someone working on is car not to be the greatest in the world, but the greatest for you. No stupid power for the road. Just a good balance between power and joy to ride. Keep them coming!
Your buddy Steve is super knowledgeable. Thanks for the podcast shout out! What camera set up are you using? Audio and soundtrack are great! Are you wearing a lav mic?
Thanks Ezekiel! I have a bunch of cameras that I use for different shots. I didn’t use a lav in any of the shots for this video, just an external mic pointed at my face. I’m testing out a new mic because I’m always trying to get better sound :D
Awesome content as always man.!! But I need to point out the fact of you got your new rack from a ZZE110 Corolla 98-02 not an AE101. Anyway I love your content man keep up ! Can't wait for part two.
Thanks Blak86! I looked back at my footage and I have a shot of me looking at the damn door jam sticker to point out the year...99 ZZ110 Corolla, lol. Well the steering rack is the right Koyo one. Thanks again Blak86 for being a long time supporter!
Can't wait for the results, I want to upgrade the steering rack too on my AW11 but I'm thinking of a Quaife 2.5. But I wonder if that is too aggressive for street driving. Also any AutoX on the calendar soon? Would be fun to see some track driving again.
I absolutly love your car. Small little nuggets are amazing. I've never had one myself tho, but ive been looking for one like yours; they're just too expensive for me here :/ I guess I'll stick with my volvo 745 and my Crown untill a cheap one comes up. Thanks for the nice content, i really like your videos.
Hello! I just wanted to know if you can give me more info about that MR-S upgrade to the steering rack please (year, model, any other option, etc), i have a Toyota Corolla AE111 2000' so i assume we have the same steering rack, Greetings from Chile, your car is awesome, take care!! 🇨🇱🙋🏻♂️
This was the 1st engine swap I did with this car and what got me into modding. Still my favorite cars after 20+ years. Let me know if u ever want to get rid of it
theres a opel astra that has a small electric power steering pump and hotrod and muscle car guys buy them new and fit them to there cars to ether give power or hide away the pump for clean look
My lower control arm inside nuts snapped off. I'll have to cut an access hole to grab them with a plier or to temporarily weld them back so I can undo the bolt.
Does this principle apply to other racks? I have an e30, stock rack is 4 turns. I have a z3 rack 2.7 turns, I have to trim the firewall to install it. If I can swap the guts I'd rather do that.

I’m not the originator of this mod. One of the people in our FX16 group has already done the mod successfully and is helping me through it. You can see the teeth on the MR-S pinion are a lot more aggressive which translates to faster steering.
I've been tempted to get the solid subframe bushings on my st185. Hope to see your impressions of it soon! I also wonder if the MR-S pinion would fit in the st185 rack, since the ratio is super slow. I've heard of sw20 guys doing the MR-S pinion, but I'm not sure how similar the st185 and sw20 racks/pinions are Edit: crossmember poly bushings for GT-Fours: gt4-play.co.uk/shop/subframe-front-polybushes
@@sushpants Good thought. Also, if the solid crossmember bushes are too much, there is a poly bushing available for the Celica GT-Four. Since the solids were a direct fit I would expect the same from these: gt4-play.co.uk/shop/subframe-front-polybushes
What kind of motor mounts are those? I just bought some aftermarket ones for my Celica because I don't have the money for OEM mounts at the moment. Hopefully they last longer than yours.
The front motor mount is the weakest one of them all and it doesn't matter from who you order it from because they're all the same. There's no OEM option with the FX16. I'm sure there's better motor mounts for your Celica.
@@sushpants Well I since picked up some Anchor and MRC mounts for now. They seem pretty solid, but we’ll see how they hold up. There are some poly mounts I could get, but that may be too stiff for my liking. Surprisingly I can still get OEM mounts, but they are something like 500 for the set. Yikes.
hi im from new zealand and we are right hand drive . i would like to do that close ratio rack conversion , which cars are the racks from as im reading other people are saying different cars
Ian... I have egg on my face...I looked back through my footage and found a clip where I made sure to get a close up of the door jam sticker to point out that the rack came out of a 99 Corolla...ZZE110, LOL. It looks like Toyota used the same Koyo rack as the AE101.
That whole rack and tie rod ends is getting replaced which is why I wasn’t worried about. If I was going to reuse the tie rod I would have used a pitman arm puller instead.
Had to close my eyes for that bit lol real nice car with sensible modifications. They were quite popular in Ireland in the day but I think they’re all locked away now in sheds most of the time. Them ball joint splitters have a habit of busting the rubber boots, one good bang on the hub carrier is the way to do it, it’s far safer if the ball joint is being replaced, quick rack mod was very nice indeed
Ae86 is the corolla 84-87 Ae92 is the corolla 88-92 Ae101 is the corolla 93-97 Ae111 is the corolla 98-02 That rack is from ae111 98" not ae101... just saying
The driver I’m using is a brushless freaky that’s rated for 141 ft-lbs and it just barely got some of the bolts out. I’m going to have to pick up one of the bigger impact wrenches.

That's zze110 Corolla not ae101 man, but that's a nice thing to know as I feel my ae92 sedan has a low steering reaction
I updated the video description to reflect that it indeed a ZZE110 :D the steering rack looks like it’s a carryover Koyo from the ae101.
