Well, luckily these things are just opinions and not a truth. For example, I put up one of my aquariums with sand in it, because it followed when I bought the aquarium second hand. I had it for a short period of time, then couldn't stand it anymore and changed it to dark, fine gravel instead (only because going all aquasoil there was too expensive). I like photos of many aquariums with sand, but I've so far never liked it in my own aquariums. I want dark substrate that's aquasoil or fine gravel. I also find those the easiest when it comes to maintenance.
As it goes for plastic decorations... In some aquariums, a "natural looking", plastic thing can be really good thing to have. For example a little cave or so. When we added some of that in the aquariums in the pet store where I work, it all looked SO much better than without. (Yes, we do have live plants as well) And especially the dwarf cichlids got really happy.
Happy, healthy fish in a not to messy looking aquarium will probably always be nice to look at.

Triggered much? To start off pointing out this is opinion and then go on an obviously defensive and unwarranted whine session is rather …meh. It was a simple video which provided visual examples.
The video had the typical tacky SpongeBob-esk decor. Not plastic “natural looking” decor. It also hinted at the ridiculous gravel people use not aquasoil and black substrate. Just had to defend yourself and speak your truth huh? lol lawd
