    The betta info is crap. They are ONLY aggressive to other bettas. They ignore everyone else.

      Hello! Thank you for watching and commenting. So sorry that you disagree,I only ever kept betta by themselves, so I wasn’t sure if the theory was true or not, I just went with the most popular opinion. Still hope that this video helped in other ways though.

      Male bettas are aggressive towards each other, yes, but also species that resemble bettas, such as guppies and gouramis. And while they usually ignore other fish, they have distinct personalities and some are more aggressive than others.
      The environment they're kept in is also important to consider, such as a large well-decorated tank vs a small and empty one.

      @@garg4531 I can take video now of my betta totally ignoring guppies and gouramis swimming past it, if you want. Bettas do NOT care about anything but other bettas. I assume you’ve never actually seen an aggressive betta in person. They are not fast. They are one of the slowest aquarium fish you can buy, maybe the absolute slowest; perhaps banjo cats give them a run for their money on slowness. Anyone who thinks a betta can chase down a guppy or gourami has never owned any of those fish. They can only attack because the other betta also wants to attack and they face off, gills flaring.
      But what do I know. I’ve only kept community tanks for 36 years.

      @@robertcollins264 Fair point
      And I’ve known one fish keeper who had a betta that would constantly chase after her platies, even though his giant fins kept him from posing a threat, and even though his constant exertion caused said fins to develop tears. Though her other bettas pretty much ignored their tankmates, so he was an exception.

    Bettas are a dice roll. Sometimes you get ones that are fine. Other times you get ones that were born and chose violence. My LFS has Bettas in the little tanks on their own but also has Bettas in with other fish. Usually tetras and the like. People looking for community Bettas should choose these ones. They are proven with other fish. Yes they are usually less pretty, not the half moon and dumbos etc. But they are a far safer bet. With tank mates like tetras keep them in large numbers. The more there are the less individualistic and more docile they become.

      @TheTetraDude  Місяць тому

      Yes I agree with you. That is also the main reason I don’t keep bettas anymore

      @TheTetraDude  3 місяці тому +1

      Hello, thanks for watching and commenting. A bowl should be fine, but if you want you could get them a 5 or more gallon tank. If the colony gets too big, then you should put them in the tank. If not, then you’re fine with a bowl!

      Shrimp are definitely one of the few creatures that can be kept in bowls, but a small tank (around 5-10 gallons) would be better as it offers a more stable environment, more room for the colony to grow, and more surface area for them to graze on

      @@TheTetraDude It's very closely related to the betta. They belong to the same Macropodusinae subfamily within the labyrinth fish order. The paradise fish essentially has the same biological niche, but lives further North in China. So, for example, the three-spot gourami and the dwarf gourami belong to a separate subfamily.

  • @garg4531

    For german blue rams it's also important to note that they need high temperatures and clean water.
    It's worth noting that male bettas *can* peacefully coexist with other fish if given the right environment and the right tankmates, but there's always a risk.
    As an imho, I think honey gouramis are definitely the best centerpiece fish due to not only their small size and vibrant colors, but also their peaceful nature. Unlike other gouramis (including bettas) or dwarf cichlids, they're unlikely to cause problems for other fish.
