It's almost like they knew what to keep original so it still had some of its aged charater. Honestly did not know they'd work on older models or take apart an oldie and replace a spring. That's such a great job. Chapeau to the artisan that did that work. Way to go Case Repair division!!!!
I had to come back to this video to show a family member what good customer service Case has. I still can’t get over what an amazing job they did. I can’t say that I know any other knife manufacturers that would be willing to completely restore such an old product. Second hand even! Absolutely baffled.
Daniel, you are SO right about Case's service team, from the person that answered the phone, (No waiting) to all staff! KA-BAR is a close second, but still great! ~Best
As a Case collector I am so glad Case came through for you in such a spectacular fashion. What a beauty. I really like how the blade was done. Kind of an old blade new blade combo. Congrats.
It’s better than anew knife because you’ve got patina that a new knife ain’t got! Lucky you fab knife mate I’d love to own one like that just love the chubby blades , I’d carry it every day. Thanks for the vid good one
Congrats on the Elephant Toe. Like you, I found one about 18 months ago. It was in slightly rough condition, and I was able to restore it. For the wood scales, get some Howard Feed-N-Wax wood polish. It's beeswax, and it works great to keep the scales nourished and shiny. I use my Elephant Toe for some kitchen prep - cutting small potatoes and onions and such. For the bolsters and the Case shield, Flitz works great to keep them highly polished. Again, glad to hear that you found one that you love.
I'm a collector of knives as well, my most precious (yeah, Gollum style) knives belonged to my dad, and both of my grandfathers. Three perfect blades, dad's was a skinner he bought as a kit at a black powder rendezvous, his father's Uncle Henry pocket (some call it a "pen") knife, and my mother's father's (in Scandinavian that's Morfar) what I called his everything knife, and old beautiful Mora. Anyways, listening to you get all excited and exuberant about your knife, and she is a beauty, got me thinking of my dad and kinda brought a tear to my eye. Thank you.
was gifted an older trapper by a motel owner, someone left it in a room. it was bone, worn down handle by years of carry. the case badge was missing. I sent it back to Case and asked they replace the badge, but leave the patina. It came back as if I'd done it myself. Exactly how I wanted it. I gifted it forward to a relative. I own probably 25+ I've bought at small mom and pop stores on motorcycle trips. When I'm gone relatives will be fighting over em. Great company and a credit to USA made!!!
Didn’t know CASE would do rework on an oldie. I picked up a 10 dot 1970 sunfish with jigged wood handles from a customer, unsharped , opens and closes so good . That yellow handle stockman on the table looks like an old John primble . I’m amazed that they had a spring for your case ,glad you got good results.
Some knife makers have wonderful customer service and warranties. Had a folding hunting knife, company name starts with an S. Loose in the hinge, bent pin I suspect. Had it for years before finding it again, sent it in with a letter to explain on a whim. Was surprised, got a brand new knife back.
Starting with my Grandad, then Pop's, over the many years, both gifted me with, right now, 129 EDC pocketknives. ALL in beautiful condition. Of course I have a nice display table! In honor of both, I use a different one DAILY. Each tool is rotated every day. I do this until it's time to start over, lol. (I do carry one special blade my wife gave me for church. (She says its more "subdued"...?) It's an OLD small Case, the scales are Mother-Of-Pearl. Used on Sunday only, it lives in my top drawer in a special sock I oiled, lol, (NO jokes!) I just found your channel and of course subscribed. I loved how you kept the blade. Heck, new damascus blades are being made like that all the time by hammering, and I hate to admit, many quality knives are coming from Afghanistan and can be had for a song. Ok Knife Detector, I just found your channel, and noticed most comments are a few years old. I hope your videos are still going strong! Subbed, and I will share, ~Best
Case repaired/restored a knife for me also. It had ben carried for years by my Father-in-law. I had the same experience. The knife came back looking like new. I gave it to my son. And there was no charge. I was amazed.
I got a nice Case as a reward knife for safety from the company I worked for and the company name was engraved into the handle. It was a single blade, lock back and it was my every day carry knife. One day I dropped it and a large portion of the tip broke off. Someone suggested I send it to Case for repairs. I figured the repair couldn't be as much as a new knife, so I sent it in and waited to hear from them about the cost. After a few weeks I was starting to get worried and it came in the mail. Since they never contacted me with a quote I just assumed that they couldn't fix it and just sent it back. Imagine my surprise when I opened the package and the blade was new and the rest of the knife was polished like the one in this video and ZERO COST except for the shipping to send it there!
This is one of my favourite unboxing videos. CASE really came through for you.well done case.im sure I heard your feet dancing during this.so so happy for you. Atb paddy 👍 🙏☘️
I happened to be able to go to the Case factory some years ago and I brought my great-grandfather's Case knife which was in poor condition. The bolsters were missing but the blades were still pretty good. The springs were shot. I asked to have it repaired. It was very old, probably from about 1900. Some weeks later I got a bubble type envelope in the mail as seen in this video. When I opened it the knife was in the same condition as when I dropped it off. The note in the envelope said that the knife was too old and could not be repaired. I was very disappointed but understand that the knife was probably over 100 years old. I'm happy that you had a good experience.
Wow! Just a little newer than the two I picked up at a flea market the last two summers One is a Granddaddy Barlow and the other a 5” Toothpick both Case CV I marvel at the work Case/Zippo did but my wife’s late uncle once told me he sent a Zippo with a broken hinge in that had a coin soldered to it and Zippo replaced the case and soldered his coin to the new case! Enjoy your beauty amigo!
Nice, I'm not a knife collector but often see old knives at estate sales and storage unit liquidations. I had no idea there's such a demand for certain vintage knives. One I picked up recently is a very old craved bone handle switchblade model. The switch is bent and I can't get the blade out to ID it. But it's about the size of your knife maybe a tad thinner. Thanks for the video. It's very informative.
I had my peanut I purchased new in 1970 when I wore it out I sent it to Case in the early’90s paying shipping there it came back like new. Original blades stayed in the knife. Nice knife you have.
Collected knives for over 50 plus years last just gave my collection to my son I had that same style with the elephant carved in the blade excellent condition. Plus many more case knifes. The old xxx ones all models
Fantastic work. I am so happy they treated you way better than they did JB. Knives are meant to work not hide in a safe, you are right to use it. All the best.
Reminds me of Buck customer service, they try to keep the nostalgia or wear of YOUR knife and just repair the form and function. So much more work than just shipping you some replacement, says a lot about them I think. Pretty awesome.
Hes so happy. About every l, little thing. Thenknife is impressive, and i believe they might have ploshed that backspring too, when he said its new,.but i could be wrong. But its very nice what they did.
While driving through Pennsylvania a few years ago I came upon the Zippo Case Museum, factory, and store. I had to stop. It was a great place. I spent a couple hours touring. I’ve since been back and toured to see it again.
Just like a kid on Christmas morning! I'm happy to see they were able to get it squared away. Kudos to Case for a great job on the refurbishment. Enjoy carrying that beast!
I sent in two knives to case. Both had handle issues, one cracked and one that was discolored. Neither were as valuable as your knife so they ended up replacing both of them. One must have been out of production because the bone handle was a different color but the same pattern. I was well pleased with this result and agree Case customer service and craftsmanship are great.
I know it’s an older video but if I can ask, how much do they charge for restoring? I like hunting older slips at flea markets and always wondered if they would fix non original owner blades.
