When living in Pennsylvania in the early 1970s in my teens,I heard this song from a distant Canadian radio station. I never was able to get the title or the artist, all I remembered was the chorus "Grandad"....until today when Yahoo news reported the passing of Clive Dunn at 92 and mentioned the song Grandad. Now a quick UA-cam search brought it up,something not even possible then. Thanks for posting it.
I feel exactly the same I was also a child of the 1970's, a great time to be a child , TV was good back then, as was the music, my Dad was still alive and so was my nana, but my grandfather is still alive at 86, but this still brings a lump to my throat as I know I'm not going to have him forever!

some songs are great.... some are bad but hold great sentinent.....this is one of the later.....my parents had an old 'blaupunkt` valve radio which i had upto recently....i first heard that song on that radio when i was just over one years old!
My Grandads have been gone 30 and 12 years, I still miss them both and remember them both very well even though I was so very young when my first Grandad died.

both of my grandad's served in the war.. i only saw my grandad who served in the RAF my other grandad died weeks before i was born. I had a son in june of 2013 he didn't get to meet any of his great grandads..i know they'll always be watching over him. I played this song the the other day to him and all i got was "ggdad"

my grandad died when i was all 16 he was like father to me this he used to sing this song to me when he was here miss you loads

My nephew was born yesterday and my Dad has been frolicking around the house singing this ever since.
I use to sing to this on the radio when I was little, but go a word wrong, the adults seems to smile at me singing Grandad Grandad Rough Me.
