Yyyyyyyyy try ytterbium get some one for me haha if I need
Do you have complete conversion kit for cummins 12 valve for patrol y61 With tb48 engine manual transmission?
Fk I want one so bad. Al take my money
"Diffs all over the ground or high fives all around." Could be a new t-shirt, just saying.🤣
The motor said "you forgot the block heater, it goes here" because it came from Canada!
1700 newton meters =1254 ft. lb. of torque and 280 KW = 375.5 HP is where they end up at 10:10. Started at 110 hp at 1:45
God dayum
218*
375 hp in v8 cruiser would still be no where near those numbers
I came across road trains in the eighties that had 1300f/p and 300hp pulling 100 ton in three trailers!! They did however an 18speed in the things with two speed diffs! Doing 80kmh.
its an auto the dyno recorded wrong its nearly impossible atleast only "they" did it
That's a lot of Torquespowers!
I love how happy Al is. It makes it all worth it in the end! Yewwww
"It's been glued in with Canadian maple syrup" hahaha
"appropriate footwear, of course" Al's wearing those steal toes. Anything that falls on his feet might steal toes.
just wear thongs thats what i do
The old "Queensland Safety Shoes." I know them well.
Those Dyno pulls look dangerous AF
Its just suspension travel, it's an off road vehicle.
@@jaydunbar7538 The right rear wheel almost being off the roller is the sketchy bit, not the not the movement of the body/chassis...
It's not just suspension travel I would ask to have my patrol strapped down a bit better.
End of the day climbing the roller inflates figures when we dyno off roaders there is no need for them to move like that.
There isn't even any straps holding it down
That truck driver was having none of that.Slammed his door shut in a hurry.
When you look up "torque" in wikipedia it just has a photo of Al's Patrol with the single word 'Yes'.
Can't wait for the bush run. What we need is an adventure vid like a weekender up double island etc. Mike and Mal style.
can’t wait to see that thing off-roading
It makes me feel better that your a genius with this stuff and you still get anxiety about the unknown. Makes me feel more human and less scared to try
Safe and reliable numbers but still enough to be fun. Cool ride 🤙🏼
Meeting up with Moog and his Jimny
Al, a while back you talked about Banks power and recommended we check out their channel. I did, and one of the things they talk about is black smoke in a diesel means you're running waayyy to rich and just spiking EGTs through the roof. A properly tuned diesel should only have the tinniest hint of smoke at full power, "rolling coal" isn't really cool and isn't good for your motor. Not sure how good that tuner is, but I wouldn't be taking the vehicle back to him. As always though, loving the build and the content. Cheers
Tunning for max power (which is what they showed in this video) and tunning for economy and long engine life (banks) are not the same. If the engine can handle the egt spike you can use excess fuel to spool the turbo much faster, this is why they did the max power tune and mentioned using afc live a dozen times to be able turn in down for normal purposes.
Yes you can make the same power without the smoke, but it will cost a fortune in parts upgrades. And even once that's done if you add fuel, you will get a gain of power again. A max power tune will always smoke, this is what things like variable geometry turbos help with so you can get the quicker spool and not have the fueling set as aggressive. However vgt turbos are expensive, hard to tune, and are far less reliable. This is also a old mechanical throttle, if you mash it to the floor it dumps in the max fuel. Banks uses a 6 thousand dollar Bosch ecm and a electric throttle to ramp in fueling to keep it from smoking, thats just simply not an option on the old Cummins.
Don't get me wrong I watch banks as well, its just not as simple of a thing as "smoke bad" as some like to think. "Max power running clean" and flat out max power for the same setup are not the same, running clean will always be the smaller power level. It just depends on what you want from the engine. My daily diesel, I drive truck, is tunned clean. I want a long engine life and the best fuel economy I can get. My old 1 ton plow truck at home, that runs a programmer so I can "set it to kill" and it will smoke like a train and make great power if im out having fun, I also have milder no smoke tunes for when I'm plowing snow or towing so I don't melt my engine.
This is not a right vs wrong question, its a "what do you want from the engine" question.
Well this has a mechanical fuel pump so itßs really hard and timeconsuming to fine tune it like an electronic injection system, if it´s even possible to do so. Nonetheless good call Banks is like the diesel tuning god. Great to see more people spreading around that roaling coal isn´t cool.
Correct black smoke us from overfueling, but mechanical injection pumps and big turbos don’t really work well together. Not like modern common rails that have more control over injection quantities.
@@jaydunbar7538 so what I hear you saying is that it is a dyno queen. To tune it without the intended AFC in place on the premise that it is going to do what you expect it to do when it is fitted is not the work of a decent tuner. A decent tuner would tell you to come back when you have it fitted then we will talk. It is well known that P pumps are not very efficient across a wide rev range, but this doesn't even come close to having any portion of the rev range right.
Having it billow out black smoke to make max power is a misnomer. When copious amounts of unburnt fuel occupies space in a cylinder it can not possibly produce peak power. If that was true the same would hold true for petrol engines as well, and we all know that past a certain point of over rich it starts to lose power.
This is a half assed tune, that is overly rich because the tuner doesn't know how to get it close without risking mechanical failure. I would bet dollars to donuts that Gale Banks could get more power with less smoke using the same P pump. Tips and tricks acquired over the period of a life time is the difference between an expert tuner and a wanna be. But don't piss in our pocket and tell us it's rain. Ordinary is ordinary, and that tune is ordinary.
Yup. Embarrassing levels of smoke.
Finally a proper skid in the shed
7:36 Good old W&B Torque wrench, not often you see aussie made tools as we slowly kill our manufacturing in favour of digging holes and selling houses to each other. Nothing wrong with a bit of cawk every now and then either....
My warren and brown deflecting beam torque wrench is my favourite tool I own and favourite tool I will ever use until I get a bigger w&b deflecting beam
Got mine from my Grandfather when he passed 42 years ago, still going strong, that satisfying click as the indicator pin pops, job well done
Ive had that same one for 20 years, one of my favourite tools.
Finally, the "skid factory" does a decent skid!
Not enough maple syrup Rich. Wonder why not brass ones. The Patrol is pretty sweet 👌
No no no, you're supposed to rotate it 180 degrees when you take it from Canada to Australia.
It wanted you to install a block heater, obviously. Even if you never think you'll need it.
So sick. I don’t think I’ve seen turbo yoda smile so much in an episode.
Years ago i lived in a dead end street and some kids rented the house at the blind end of the street.one Saturday night they had a party and did burn outs outside our house, couldnt see the other side of the street, your burnout reminded me of it.Then they put drums and amps on the roof and played "Smoke on the water".those were the days
So good to see this thing kick arse. The couple of times we did get to see it go it was a little underwhelming and I was a little disappointed for you Alan. To see it move around on the dyno like it did was great. Such a torque monster. I'm much more a fast car, performance type guy than I am a 4x4 guy but this is my favourite project of yours. Such friggin robust engineering.!!!!!!!!! I hope you take us with you in the bush where this thing will f$#&g DOMINATE.!!! Well done to the max. !!! 💪💪💪👊👊👊👊
that thing is an absolute torque monster, would love to see you do some trails with 4wd247, and see it compared with shauno 80
Fairer comparison to the naughty 40. Another fully modified beast! The Cummins patrol is a freaking weapon! So good.
@@Ripply774 modded 6cyl td suv on 35s
There are a couple fixes for that plug issue. You can get a plug that basically clamps into the block or you can get one that runs an AN line to recycle some of the flow to a lower flow area in the block. Both great products.
This thing is amazing! I can't wait for it to hit its first track! Please try to promote the RPM act if you have a big USA fan base. We understand that road emissions are important. But, they are trying to stop our race cars. Thanks! Even if you aren't willing to. I loved this colab and build.
The RPM act can maybe effect the whole world. All car people in the US must join up to repeal it. Im an Irishman in Aus and can see what trouble lies ahead. Good luck and stick together.Thank you for your post.
Alan is my spirit animal. Patrols FTW!
As a Canadian 8:20-8:28 instantly brought back memories of riding the school bus as a kid.
Yeah chappo! 🤙 I too can’t confirm or deny any activities in a 180sx that I may or may not have witnessed back in the day haha. 😂
loving the shed skid!
would love to see her power and torque numbers on a clean tune though!
How clean do you want it to be?
@@udovdh blacking out a whole street just attracts the wrong kind of attention and reduces the life of your engine oil. I tend to aim for a grey haze
@@nrs91 I'd say they need some Paul Foulston in Australia
@@Sbanar always!
Does Paul Foulston tune P pumps?
Such a great Patrol! Really looking forward to the wood adventure and see how it works.
Terrific show, Al and Woody. Keep the episodes coming
I’d hate to deal with all the laws you guys do but that patrol is bad ass. Cheers gentlemen.
Here’s some options on fixing the coolant from blowing the freeze plugs at higher rpm.
You can get a fleece coolant bypass for the 24 valve Cummins and or get billet aluminum freeze plugs or take the water pump out and clip the fins on the water pump to lower the pressure at higher RPM
This diesel stuff is all black magic to me but absolutely fascinating, thanks guys!
Black magic and black smoke! Apparently you can only get a million torques that way! :P
That big boy will pull the Taj Mahal outta India with all them torques.
Nice work lads, great to see the poontrol again 👌👌
Bloody buckets of torque!! Love it
You just know that this series alone has tripled 6bt sales in Australia and added 10 grand onto the mean price of gross old ZD30s.
Best skid factory skid so far 🤙
Still does a better 4x4 build than the 4wd channels. What a beast!
it's probably shit when it comes to 4wd to be honest, worse than a patrol with a stock engine (weight and RPM), but ok...
@@samurai4x483 it's not much really that much added wieght, it also has less accessories on it then most.
The auto trans will be dialed in.
Best Skid @ the Skid Factory .. gotta make a T Shirt with that Torque Monster pictured up front, for all the diesel heads .. definitely my favourite build!
Absolute monster. I have frothed over this thing for so long and it's finally all done ✊
My uncle has one of these cummins engnes in his 80 series in WA. Goes hard, dual electric lockers and 35's.. Goes everywhere.
by far the fucken coolest patrol ive seen to date!
Absolutely epic build lads
Sweet 👍 Reckon a properly sized welch plug may be in order so you don't dump anitfreeze in the forest 😉 Off road recovery truck anyone?
Al looks like a Hobbit standing next to Chris.
So who's Dumbledore....... lol
you need to be cautious with High HP and high RPM with a 6BT 12/24v, the #5 cylinder(firewall) in the back doesn't get as much cooling as the others and will be the first piston to melt, usually well within your Temp limits on your gauges, unless you put the sender at the #5 and adjust loads to the temps.
You need to address the Killer dowel pin, billet freeze plugs, #5 coolant bypass if your gong to run is wide open, hot often if not then no worry for the bypass
KDP was corrected by deboss when the engine was built, just the freezplug fix needed for this beast.
She looks a beast admire you boys dedication love doing conversion/modifications actually been playing with a old diesel 4wd rodeo all self tuned she towing our VL circuit racer pretty nicely for just 2.8 four cylinder.Love my diesel told the kids too dig a big hole im getting put too rest in my little truck
100% the best shed skid to date, no doubt about it.
Ah Deboss…. Letting the team down. Frost plug blew!! (Love from Vancouver Rich).
Finally a skid from the skid factory!
🤔 I simply can't be the only one thinking about a skid factory and 4wd 247 collaboration can I? Think that would be absolutely awesome, the look on shaunos face alone would be priceless 😆 what with him being a massive toyota fan and not so much a nissan man and all 😆
Plus woody and yoda would get a absolutely awesome trip out of it and really get to test this beast out in some of the tougher terrain in Australia !
This rigg imo is every bit as good if not better than most of the riggs featured on their channel maybe not the dirty 30 because that's literally a dream build but certainly everything else.
I would love to see the banter/dynamics of 4wd 247 meets skid factory the beers and camp cookout would be UA-cam gold !! 😁👍
Skid Factory finally doing massive skids!
First phone call when I win Tattslotto...”build me one” Awesome rig.
Man it sounds sick
Returning to idle just has that special sound that makes me moist
that was not the welch plug leaking, that was tears of joy at the end there! :'D what a beast of a car:D
As a Canadian I'm legally required to enjoy the sound of a cummins, it's too bad about the coal rolling tune though
Look black smoke racing yuo see some coal rolling.
Can't do much about that with a P-pump. It cleans up nicely when boost builds though.
Banks would shit the bricks over the black smoke lol
Banks would know that a P pump is not a common rail system and "cleaning it up" under abrupt full throttle isn't a thing unless it is a slug.
Banks would demand twincharging of all the things. Instant boost, instant airflow to match the instant fueling from a p pump 👌🤷♂️
Just sat back on the couch with a beer and this vid popped up. cheers boys 🍻
The Skid Factory finally living up to its name
That is one sexy sounding Nissan Patrol. Best power sound in the world. It has some spectacular grunt.
I wonder what she'll pull down the quarter. What a beast! That t-rex reference was funny too.
Best shed skid eva What a torque monster!
Woooooo! Go chappy!
Awesome video skid factory and mean patrol!!
The Patrol looked like it was 🚀 launching off dyno. Now that’s some serious TORQUE.
Next time Willowbank has a diesel assault day please bring it out 😁
Keen to see how it would go against a powerstroke with similar numbers
Best skid ever
Man at 9:48 I was waiting for the smuts to hit the fan.
Oh dang finally it's about time they got the Patrol chewned
Officially the best shed skid to date bu the skid factory lads!
Worlds first Nissan Patrol 6bt with a CVT transmission!
On the dyno the engine was blowing right through the converter
I'll call Hughes and recommend you for a job.
@@theskidfactory seriously though was a converter that loose what you where going for? On the street pull it didn’t even sound like it changed gear
The dyno pull goes from 1200rpm to 2600rpm.
This is my favorite build you have done yet, I might be a little biased though cuz I am a Cummins guy lol.
“ The Tread Shred Shed “ does it again !
I'd swap the plugs with heavier stuff. They aren't rated for the full mule kick. I rememeber that on heavy use days, on the loader we used to borrow, which was a base Cummins swap, they'd pop out if the thing got over a certain load (hill + weight) and the operator got tired of it and just stuffed one he made on the lathe (edit: basically a block of brass with a lip).
agree also HQ ones are fitted with them dipped in nitrogen as they are very tight and block needs heating and plug dipped in Nitrogen. debo didn't fit these properly even for a stock cummins. he hadplugs but were way too small. so he ordered new ones, that were still too small but fitted them anyway..
@@seinfeld11123 stock freeze plugs on these are know to blow out in the upper RPM ranges. There are tons of aftermarket companies that make billet aluminum ones here in the states to prevent this from happening.
You would expect someone like Alan to know better than to run it that rich.
Its not hard on them to roll a bit of coal ;)
Yea but soot gets the moot so who cares
@@wetsaltypickle it's harder than it needs to be, but also it's very hard on everybody around you. I'm all for deafening pedestrians and especially cyclists, but cancer is not cool.
I seriously thought he was smarter than that, but it would appear I was wrong. He took it to an "expert" cough cough that subscribes to the theory that black smoke equals power, when real experts like Gale Banks say if you are blowing black smoke you are wasting horsepower. What do you expect when someone who has been tuning for 5 minutes considers themself an expert. Gale has been playing with diesels longer than that kid has been alive.
@@DodgyBrothersEngineering yeah, I don't like to appeal to authority in place of my own critical thinking, but when it comes to Gale Banks, I'll take his word to the bank. Horsepower on the table, years off your life, and excessive cylinder temps are not what I consider wise choices.
You need to go on an off road adventure with Marty and Moog!
Patrol
Kei truck
And Jimny
I reckon you could see the fuel gauge going down at wot. She sounds so nice too 😍
Powerdriven diesel make a welsh plug kit that is o-ring and locks in from the back side. dont know at what power lever but i know powerdriven recommends them at a certain point
safety 3rd.
Welch plug, they don't come from the land of funny speaking people 😁
There's a reason people run a bypass from the thermostat housing to the number 6 cylinder using the back plug, it's because the coolant doesn't circulate there, boiling it and causing loss of life blood.
What an absolute monster! Gee I love this show
Good luck with the registration today*.
And that's why I always put green Loctite on my welsh plugs!!
Oh cool. A local boy to me. Good to know. I'm in Beerwah too
Best skid you've ever done
By far. BEST, SKID, EVER. In the shed anyway.
I tried to call these Evolution Tuning Guys several timers - all I get is a crazy old man from Bremen yelling at me he won't tune my cummins no mater how often I ask.
That thing is sick! Can't wait to see yas put her threw her paces on the test cruise
I lost a drop link bush (1 of 4 per side) inside a control arm... after 3 minutes trying to retrieve, it got left there. Bought a couple more (that were different) so had to take the other side off again and make each side match.
excellent episode boys! love the content! excellent skid in the shop!!!
Yes, that is the best skid you’ve ever done.
did rich trim down the water pump so it didn't flow so much at high long rpm pulls? mine kept popping plugs out until i trimmed mine down seems like alot of people do it due to high pressure flow
That's what I have heard to, she pumps some coolant.
So an impellor trim and a larger capacity radiator is the way forwards with these then?
@@SabretoothBarnacle pretty much yeah
@@theskidfactory what RPM are you spinning? the marine applications run at 3800rpm or more full bore and higher duty cycle without changing the water pump
Different water pumps, different freeze plugs or none at all?
Congrats on the finished project! Looks insane.
Hi from the UK, ..
Brill, I love Cummins, was thinking about one in my 80, but the 1hd-ft, makes great power, just not as high torque as a Cummins
, keep up the good work guys, Keep Safe in these shitty times,
about time yous lived up to the name finally a ok skid
Such a sick rig.
Keep a block of wood in the car so if it runs away you can block the snorkel from the drivers seat hehe
Good to see the patrol nearly done.
man you can get good power with out all the nasty coal rolling
Did you watch Gale Banks video too?
Yeah but then how are you going to deal to middle aged lycra clad cyclists hogging the road?
yeah thats cause its tuned properly black smoke means its rich, which means less power. but you cant virtue signal to other racists and homophobes how much you hate clean air and unburnt bush, so i guess thats what you trade off for having more power...
Seen a few comments on this n if u notice it cleans up nice on boost during low rpm n boost those delivery valves put out a little too much but that's the trade off for perfect tuning when boost comes up
black is rich yes.. but lower nox.
