Not noted in this review is that on Switch, the load times are ABYSMAL. Like, BAD bad. And the worst part is that there are so. MANY. Loading screens. This doesn’t help the game’s already incredibly slow pace. I want to like this game, I really really do. But all the charm is bogged down by how damn tedious and slow the game is. This is the first game in a long time I genuinely regret purchasing :(

But yeah, the intro sequence alone is borderline unplayable due to the sheer amount of struggling/stuttering loading screens (the music actually stutters during these sections, it’s that bad) that happen since they pop up every time you enter a new area or cutscene. Even when I started the game, I thought something was wrong because of how janky it was when booting up, but nope! That’s just…how it is. The game desperately needs a patch on Switch, there’s simply no reason why it should be running this poorly.
The graphical style, lovely as it is, is *heavily* reminiscent to me of "Knights and Bikes", which was much more fun to play than this sounds like it is.
Or Halloween Quest.
That's unfortunate but I'm glad to know this before buying it.

It looks so appealing, but you, it'll need some QoL stuff (like mass crafting/gathering) if it wants me to put up with a slow story.
This game was on my wishlist for like 3 years before I concluded it was vapourware. I'm shook to see a review for it.

I'm reminded of the crafting game loop for Fantasy Life for the DS. But in that game, you could unlock bulk crafting and even auto crafting after awhile.
I played the demo at PAX East and managed to find a soft lock, which really soured my taste. I ran around collecting all of the flowers at first and exchanging them for various things, until I found out there was a stamina meter and I'd run out of stamina from all of the flower picking. I didn't have enough flowers to trade for the key item I needed to progress, and I didn't have enough stamina to pick more, and I couldn't regenerate any stamina (forget why).
I understand the point of the microgames to make the crafting more "realistic," but as you said, all I can see that as is tedious
I’ve been playing the game for quite some time now, and I’ve been really enjoying it. If it goes out of xbox game pass before I finish it, I’m buying it. Reviews are based on the creators preferences and their pov of how things work, and I simply don’t agree with yours, which is normal!
So, if Animal Crossing was just a little more sadistic with its grind and tedium... but without house customization. A shame.
Do you think this game would appeal to people who like Animal Crossing? I think a lot of the criticisms here also apply there (gameplay is mostly gathering/crafting, no bulk crafting, slow story, etc). I'm just wondering if it's a bad game or simply the style of game that's the issue.
I don't know. I have seen the same complaint from a few more reviewers, some who were really excited for the game and are into animal crossing and other cozy games. It's been disappointing to hear😔, but I do think some people have a greater tolerance for gathering/crafting items. I have seen jt recommended for people that don't mind heavy grinding and fetch quests. Personally, I have decided to wait for a sale now after watching several reviews.
It’s a bad game. I LOVE this style of games, but it’s just not done very well here. There’s parts I genuinely do like a lot! Like the fact that crafting is an actual little mini game, and the Saturday night market is something that I keep looking forward to. But everything else is passable at best and downright boring and at times frustrating at worst.
I LOVED Animal Crossing (600+ hours) but nope. I honestly regret buying this and I’m like 6 hours in
What's up with "micro-games"? Why are you not just calling them mini-games?
Because they are much smaller/simpler than typical minigames? Some of them seem to consist of just two timed button presses. Compare that to something like the fishing minigame in Stardew Valley and the difference should be obvious.
Aww bugger. Had hopes for this one.
The story being slow? Yeah, I can deal with that. It seems to be one of those 'cozy games' after all.
But mini games every time you do something? The first or first three times even, okay. But every time sounds just tedious.
This kind of reminds me of a trend JRPGs were going down in the 90s-00s. How do you spice up turn based combat? How about some more involved interactions when using abilities? Like in Legend of Legaia where you had to input a button combo for special moves. It looks awesome and it's fun for the first few hours but you end up seeing how long it drags things out when there's another random battle every few seconds.
