I'm so sorry that you guys have to drive a GM. That aside.... i hear people all over Pennsylvania asking "why can't we get any gravel?" The poor quaries reply with "well you see... there's this guy who buys it faster than we can mine it."
Thanks for putting this together. I started making a couple videos myself - overhauling old Coleman lanterns and stoves. It’s a lot of work editing and makes me appreciate how much you do and the production quality of your videos. Whew. Learning !
I have an idea/suggestion for your new roadside wood stand. I have watched your videos for a handful of years now and I'm familiar with your snowfall and snow plowing buildup at the driveway turnout. If you were to build the wood stand in upper and lower (bolted together) sections, you could have the upper section well above ground level. It would avoid extra moisture transference to the wood bundles and eliminate the need for full wood stand replacement, due to it being hit or long term wood rot etc... Granted, this would lessen the storage space (unless you lengthened it overall). However, a few extra restocking trips down the driveway may make it worthwhile. Also, should you ever want to move it, it's much more transportable. Have a blessed day and thanks for the great videos. Mark K Ps....Way to go Eva. The smile, wave and goodbye (as you drove past the camera) was a sweet and thoughtful gesture. Most people are so self consumed, they wouldn't have thought to do it.
Thanks for sharing with us Mike and Melissa , the driveway does look great. Mike sure does a great job with the equipment and gravel , his experience shows in the work. Looks like a good pull off for the eggs and firewood stands. Good luck with both. Stay safe and keep up the good work. Hello to Hunter, Levi and Eva too. Fred.
I wonder if anyone has driven by your place and went home and told their spouse...... I saw a woman filming her husband pouring cement in a mailbox hole. Who would ever want to watch that?..... And I smile 😃 Have a Jesus filled day everyone Greg in Michigan
I have put many mailboxes in for folks, mainly because the old one got hit either from a snowplow or a car. I stopped setting them in concrete and just used compacted stone or gravel around the post, so it is easier to replace the next time. They stay in place, and I have never had any problems with them after.
Same here Jeffrey, pull out the broken treated 4x4 and a few hits with the post hole digger and fill with dirt. Always remember, they never cement Power Poles. I had one completely broken off from the West and within a few days the new one was completely broken off from the East. Slick Michigan Roads!
In my old age(52😂) my neck pain makes it difficult to turn and watch things going backwards. If I had a track loader, I would get a quick attachment that hooks up 3pt implements. This way you could run the land plane "backwards," while running the track loader forward.😊 My thoughts: "I'm willing to be temporarily industrious, in order to be permanently lazy." 😂
Please put the address sign back up as a fire fighter it is greatly appreciated to be able to find your address it is a god send when people do. Thank you ! Love, what you guys do. I hope to meet you someday
I had a oversized Rural Delivery mailbox in Beaver County. It was good the postal carrier didn't leave small parcels outside the box (drive was around 100 yd). You are probably always getting larger boxes / crates. Driveway looks fantastic.
People who use dry concrete for certain applications like setting posts see absolutely no concrete failure. My uncle had a small lumber yard and sold bags of Ready- mix concrete. Occasionally bags would be misplaced and be exposed to moisture. Over a short period the bags were solid..very solid. Pouring dry concrete works as well as mixed.Moisture in ground / rain etc hardens it solid.
I love watching your superb accuracy using your box-blade going backwards & skid loader to get more stone. I do understand why you do what you do. Your accuracy is superb, Mike.
Hey Mrs. Morgan, you almost have the Boy Scout breakfast stand going there! When I was a kid in pursuit of my Eagle Scout level, I remember having to make bacon and eggs in just a paper bag over an open fire! Throw in a cooler of bacon and a bundle of those old brown paper lunch bags (you remember them). at your one stop breakfast shop at the end of the driveway and you will find yourself with dens of scouts buying everything right there and making breakfast every morning! Laughs. Maybe not.... but it would be fun!
Mike, I live in Oregon. I am retired and do the same things you do. Except for my firewood choice, is madrone 1st, maple 2nd, and black oak 3rd. I just wanted to say that I appreciate the time and effort you put into your videos. I know it's not easy. Keep them coming. I enjoy them all. All of you that watch and aren't subscribed need to hit that button. You should have a half million plus!
You didnt need to reattach the green address placard to the mailbox post? For us here in WV it linked to our 911 system for fire and sheriff/police in rural areas of the county.
Mike likes numbers…..I wish someone would go back over the videos for the last say two years to add up how many tons and times Mike has put gravel down on just the driveway alone. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@johnminto7723 I entered a guess for that also. I just think it’s funny. Video subject that allows him to create content when needed. I think he could use less equipment if not for gravel. I am not complaining at all just think it’s funny he has a gravel problem
Now, that's how I set posts . Got a summons to appear in court for setting a new mailbox post at my mom's house before she passed, I was fined for setting the post in concrete against city ordinance, ( created for safety) had to go buy a new post and dug a hole a foot away from 1st 1 with the concrete cut the original one off at ground level
Would you consider doing some detailed instructional videos on how to use the land plane, box blade add other implements? I bought a box blade last year to fix my driveway but that might have been the wrong implement. I made a mess of it. You’re a good teacher and I think a lot of us could benefit from the finer points of adjustment, selecting and maintaining a grade etc. I can’t find any decent videos on the subject anywhere else on UA-cam. The ones that are out there assume a certain level of knowledge or they just skip over the fine points, tips and tricks.
Mike, out of abundance of caution, you might want to sweep back the stones that came onto the road a bit. Give it a wide birth lest some biker runs off and, of course, blames you. Cheap insurance.
When I dig a hole I use my pressure washer to soften the rock and soil then use shovel and post hole digger to remove what’s left. Then if I need water out I use a old Shop vacuum. Mike just a thought I know you truck has a bed liner in it. But may I suggest you buy a cow mat for the bed there cheap and add about 3/4 of a inch protection for the bed and tools and stuff don't slide around as much or if you through some wood in the back you won't make dents.
You know by now that Melissa is one of the best camera persons on UA-cam. Please be careful! It scares me when she is filming and Mike cannot see her when she is moving beside the loader or excavator. Great video!
Looking good! However, the gravel and stones on the road is VERY dangerous for motorcycles. Sometimes to avoid an oncoming car or oversize load and even pulling over for emergency vehicles can be catastrophic. Thanks, please be careful working on that road.
🎯⚠🎯Anytime you place a concrete post in concrete, you should get some 20d galvanized nails and put 6 on each side of the post that is in the concrete. That gives the concrete something to grab on to. As you know, the post and concrete will shrink a little that can give the post a little wobble. Also mound the concrete up a little around the post so that all the water will run off and not sit around the post. Drive the 20d nails in about 1/3 of the way leaving the rest to be in the concrete.
