Salt N Pepa had some 🔥hits. They are rap royalty. With Shoop they were doing what men in rap did to women(misogyny). First female rap group to have a consistent crossover appeal.
Great reaction Empress! I LOVE Salt-N-Pepa. They had so many fantastic hits over the years. Shoop was definitely one of their biggest. I was 13 when this came out and I was obsessed with this song. The featured male rapper in the song was "Big Twan". Honestly, I had no idea who he was. I had to look it up. This was a great choice for you to react to.
OMG YES!! The OG female rap girls! Queens! Back when Hip Hop was pure fun. The video is so fun as well, i love them. They had one of the longest running #1 songs ever on the Official German Charts back in 1991/1992 with ''Let's Talk About Sex'' which spent 10 weeks at #1. But i love Shoop even better. :)
oh i didnt know Salt N Pepa had European appeal like that, but it does make sense since the fun carefree vibe of music persisted in Europe for a while before grunge dominated the late 90s in America at least
@@rodanandme Yeah i think at the time, they were even bigger in Germany than in the US. Let's Talk About Sex peaked at #1 for 10 week in Germany, that's longer than any Spice Girls or Destiny's Child single peaked at #1 here, while it peaked somewhere at #12 or #13 in the US, so they certainly had European appeal. Even R U Ready in their later years peaked in the top 40 here, higher than in the US. They were very much liked. Their 80s classic Push It is obviously still known around the globe. I think the fact that Salt'N Pepa just make you feel good, they're groovy, it just translates even if you don't speak the language perfectly. Good for them, they're definitely the OG rap queens.
@@rodanandme From wikipedia: Let's Talk About Sex The song was certified gold by the RIAA and peaked at No. 13 at the Billboard Hot 100 chart. In the purely sales-based UK Singles Chart, the song hit No. 2, and in the German singles chart, the song hit No. 1, the first original song by an American hip-hop act to achieve that feat.
"The bow-legged one" best line.
SNP did for rap what madonna did for pop in the 90's gotta love that girl power !!!! body beautiful....... come on..killer track

“Ooh Salt got a little flow on her. “ You ain’t neva lied. Salt is one of the dopest female rappers ever. Her flow is a beast. 💯💯
I think the sample was “I’m Blue” by Sweet Inspiration.
This was a turn the tables on the men song .So often they objectified women and this was Salt N Peppa saying we can do that ,too . Female empowerment
this brings back memories
Yeah my teens suddenly came rushing back
