Love me a banshee! Ran those SOB's around glamis and ocotillo wells. Ain't nothing like long travel, pipes, reeds, and a uni filter to make em' glide across the desert landscape! Cool find! Not many stock beauties left
Even by 2002 it was getting harder to ride 2 strokes around, might be why this one sat. BUT I followed a kid on a new YZ125 through a Burlington side road doing wheelies and gave a nod to Kaplan, he's keeping them alive with these videos and probably why the kid had one
I've considered selling my beautiful 2000 banshee to buy more bikes but I just can't bring myself to do it even though I never ride it, they are just so awesome
@TheHitman- They make quads now that are faster than Banshees? I don't know of any, although I've never been into 4 stroke dirtbikes and 4 wheelers. Always been a 2 stroke guy my whole life. The only 4 stroke dirtbike that I wouldn't have a problem with buying is a 4 stroke street legal enduro, like the beautiful GasGas 700 that Jr owns.
@sonnyseabury4051 A banshee is like a gtr used to be in its day. Fast, but compared to today's 4 strokes is a turtle of the past. You are talking stock 4 stroke atvs that push 80+ mph...and all wheel drive if you want it. Banshee doesn't stand a chance.
@@sonnyseabury4051 Here's an honest answer: The YFZ450 will smoke the Banshee in every aspect. Maybe a built Banshee could beat a YFZ on straight flat drags, but in anything else, the YFZ is the absolute premiere sport quad. Just check out ATVMX, GNCC, or WORCS, no one races Banshees outside of specific novelty categories. The YFZ is the new king.
Oh man! I can't believe what yall continue to bring up! Wow just wow! I bought a new 89 warrior in that color and installed a Powroll warpath kit to 430cc my buddy got the Banshee in red and white, I bent the exhaust valve trying to beat him in a drag race, I could take him until 4th gear but the party ended after that. I was a 4-stroke guy him 2, we swapped back and forth riding each other's, I was perplexed by the lack of low-end torque but overwhelmed by the topend rush😂 and his reaction was the opposite with the thumper tractor torque! Man I love this stuff! If I only had the money! That 750 Honda was good! I remember them all, this channel blows my mind! Thanks so much
I had this exact Banshee! She was a gem but I sold her before going to grad school and moving to the east coast. Still wish they were producing two stroke quads. Side by sides have killed the quad market and it breaks my heart.
The banshee was the only quad I ever owned fun to slide around on for sure and fun build too . One day when I have my ktm 450 sxf , husqvarna fe 501s , husky te 300 , cr500 , cr250, I might have to buy doubles of some of these but then maybe I’ll get another banshee lol . Crap I wasn’t even thinking about supermoto bike another 450 oh and adventure bike probably a 701 and then a banshee.
Beauty! I loved the Banshee I had 2 of them 1998 and 2006. Fun! Didn't like replacing 2 of everything and pipes, twice as much lol. Quad Racer 250 was way better balanced machine for wheelies not that the banshee wouldn't do them all day long.
One bike I've neve owned. Come close a couple times but never got one. Nothing better than 2 wheels though! You should keep that on display! It is nice!
Your right about if Yamaha started making the Banshee's again they would sell like hotcakes. It would be amazing, if they had a updated version with fuel injection and suspension upgrades. Yamaha is all about the side by sides, the profit is so much higher than ATV's and dirt bikes.
Buddy had a 87 250r built for sand drags…twist throttle..had that sprout wings feelin under wot..blackwaters in rear cut trenches up this hill …350 twins even meaner
That machine stands alone at the top of the hill. You don’t have to be into ATVs to know exactly what you’re looking at. The banshee was the most iconic to the off-road world in history. Kaplan always hits on the bangers, but I have to say I’ve been waiting for this video for a long time. I’ve watched a lot of these videos from Kaplan and every time the discussion goes towards the RD or RZ series. He’s always sure to talk about the lineage that ultimately led to the banshee. I’m glad there’s finally one about the banshee. Yamaha is just the coolest company for taking such a decorated engine and thinking to themselves fuck the 250 R this will shut them up.
Well My 86 250r 3-Wheeler with a FMF Pipe and Boyesen Reeds would Keep- up and/or Beat STOCK Banshee's at the Dunes, and forget about it in the Tight Woods Trails. So, although a Badass Quad, it didn't Shut Me up or Shut Me Down!
That is one sexy beast, and I know she is very Fast! My first discovery of the Yamaha Banshees was racing one, off the line, on my 1993 Yamaha YZ 250. I beat it off the line, had my bike opened up on a straight away. We were side by side, and then the guy walked me. I was so impressed and surprised that I researched them, and have loved them ever since. This will probably sell before it gets put on Ebay. The owner will be very happy. I was told that they stopped making these because they were too fast, and that too many people got badly hurt and killed on them. Don't know if that's true or not. I'm not a big fan of California Environmental Tree Hugging Fanatics. They take the fun out of everything. Love those Kaplan Cycle Vanity Plates. My favorite one is the first one.....Red, White, and Blue! Great video. ML&R.
I must say sir, I've been watching you for a long time now and I've seen quite a bit of banshees from you and some nasty ones too. But that one that one is a diamond one. Kickstart if it sounds like a beast rides like a beast, it must be a beast Chrissy does absolutely beautiful work on those plates. I can't wait to come see you bud!
That thing is a beautiful banshee for a show room! But that old loved banshee on Craigslist that was somebody’s baby for the last 30 years at half the price that you have to put some sweet and blood to build the way you want it may be what some people want at the end of the day brother! Every banshee is beautiful and unique.
Wow! That’s nice! The Yamaha Banshee was truly one of the baddest machines you could buy in its time. Badder than any production ATV sold today or at least right there with them. I wish they would bring the Banshee back but it was so fast it was actually TOO fast and I’ve heard it said that they discontinued it because it was a death machine in the hands of young and immature riders (which was probably most of its riders) too many folks were getting hurt/killed and Yamaha didn’t want to give atvs a dark public image. And yes, original unadulterated ones like this one are getting more rare every day. That’s a beauty for sure! Kaplan has definitely got some really cool stuff 🎉
Yeah, the same goes for the Honda 350 2-stroke and 4-stroke three-wheelers. We also have a 250 Kawasaki Tukati that we bored out to a 280 2-stroke, and it’s a beast. My dad still has it in the barn back in Tennessee. He never let me ride it, but he let my smaller, less experienced stepbrother ride it, which was kind of unfair. We had a lot of bikes, to be honest. We still have the parts bike for the Husqvarna 430, which was a tall bike. It was a 2-stroke bored out to a 500. We traded that bike for an '80s era V8 BMW, which was insane. The bike had a kickstarter on the left side, which is unusual for the US since it’s a European bike. My dad also has the 350 4-stroke Honda and the 200 Fat Cat. There are a few others as well, all from the '80s era like the warrior and used to have a 250 blaster as well.
Glad to see one that's still rideable. Only banshee I've ever ridden was +4mm crank/ported/piped and that thing is a losing battle in any environment that isn't a drag strip.
I had the last year 2008 edition. I loved that thing to the moon and back ! I sold it because it was a cash down for my house... What sacrifices you have to do when your girl is pregnant... I miss it like hell 😥 And these are hard to get by in good condition... I sold mine $8000. I'm in Quebec Canada.
Dude this banshee will sell so damn quick the thing is a fuckin virgin!!! Hell yah glad you guys finally got a banshee in. Lucky is the one that gets it
nice one ! i mounted the modified vforce for it in my tuned yamaha DT125 ( 170 ) .... they are super fun to ride .. great content man , i love the channel , greets from bavaria / germany.
All of the Banshee's and Blasters had the brake light switch added from 2002 onward. All their sport quads may have them after 2002, but im not sure on that one.
Much like the old late 80s / early 90s Toyota pickup 4x4s, it just goes to show that when the manufacturer doesn't try to make it look all aggressive (which just ends up looking edgy) and instead stick to a simply, logical, utilitarian appearance, they end up making the sharpest, most-appealing, most-endearing icons.
I rode a brand new one back in 2001 that a friend had. Never realized that thing would be worth what it is today. They probably paid $5K new back then if that.

agreed. yamaha should bring it back with a decent powerful engine. and not that ancient 350ccm 40hp crap it came with back then.

Everytime you walked into a Yamaha dealer back then you looked to see if one of these were on the floor.
Every time
100% agreed. Most of the time, they were sold out, atleast in Louisiana anyways.
