Great video. Having one of my guitars stolen is one of my worst nightmares! No amount of money can replace the mojo and history you make with a guitar. :)

And 5 years later from this, Thurston (and the rest of Sonic Youth) had a ton of guitars stolen!

The worst part of this story is that music store prick made money coming and going. So sorry for your loss Steven, and so glad for your recovery in the end.

The store owner didn't want to get arrested for recieving stolen goods. All musicians should avoid this music store.

Pawn stores never get arrested for that. You have to prove that they knew it was stolen.

Steve was on Chris Shifflett's podcast and told this story. They ended up in court, and the deal was the store owner wanted at least what he had in the bass, $600. It was the best deal Steve could get, not having any hard evidence, and he took the deal. His parents originally got it for $400, so his family is still only into the bass for $1000, he seems to believe it's worth it.

Did Steve ever get it back? I agree he was way too nice and that just shows that he's a classy guy but that owner was a total asshole. He had guilty written all over his face! I hope that Steve was able to get his bass back - I can definitely understand how much it would mean to him.

I'm glad that, at very least, Steve got his bass back.

i made the mistake of letting a club kid crash at my first apt on occasion and i found my limited edition electric blue gibson sg w/ trap inlays and emg pickups stolen one morning... i can relate. i know it wound up at a place like this in exchange for some crack.

...I had the same issue some months ago. The fckng son of a bitch who stole my 90s Gibson tbird was in my band, he had the keys and also he stole some money from the band in order to buy some coke and heroin..then I had to pay back for my own bass, I will never forget it, not only for the money but for my soulbound bass...shit happens...
