For me Peter Roberts is by far and away the very greatest of any brass player I've ever heard, the man makes me melt, I dissolve into my own tears every time I hear Flowerdale! A true phenomenon, just wonderful! 👍👏🌟
I discovered this video senior year in high school in 2010. And here I am almost 11 years later. I went on to study trumpet in college. I didn’t finish my degree but I never lost my love for the instrument. I always imagined that he held his trumpet there after the last note until he finally heard it stop singing after it bounced off the back of the auditorium.
I have always had a love for brass band music but this particular piece was brought to my notice very recently by my brother and it is without doubt one of the nicest pieces of music and solo musicianship I have ever heard I listen to it all the time!!
I have a Eb Soprano cornet by Yamaha. A truely sweet singing horn. But playing it is like pushing a pick-up truck up hill. Horn players of the world UNITE and be heard!!
@rob33cherry As a professional musician, I have to say that David King's conducting makes perfect sense to me. I assume you've played in a brass band or orchestra?
Please my son join the school brass band and he choose this song to play.but he need to know the meaning of this song because it will help him with his practical at school.
LIKE THE WAY HE USES THE BACK (3RD VALVE), HE KNOWS WHY, HE PULLS THE FINAL NOTE IN TUNE. DAVID kINGS CONDUCTING, JUST WHAT IT SHOULD BE.......SUPPORTING AND UPLIFTING.
Superb playing (shame abot euph at 1' 22'') Surely Haydn, Hummel beckon now on the international classical music circuit. (After all, brass bands do have their limitations.)
this solo is completely beautiful and the band is fantastic as well. But, sorry if I am missing something here, but what on earth is the conductor doing ( i believe it is David King??) I know that the conductors job is not necessarily always to keep time but his arm movements do not bear any resemblance to the beautiful music happening in front of him. The video is certainly not out of sinc. but I cannot understand his role here..... Can someone please clarify.
@picklepals11 I assume you know nothing about conducting & Brass Bands, otherwise you would realise that you are commenting about David King, one of the most successful brass band conductors around.
Amazing solo. The conductor sucks, but that is another element of what makes this amazing:the ability to run without the conductor. The subtle contrast of dynamics, and use of different articulations and vibrato makes this a superb solo. And the band brings out the sound. tone and recording quality are amazing, and i love the solo.

This is still by far the most beautiful performance of a brass band on UA-cam.
I play this at least once a week and feel it must the standard we should all aim for - truly Wonderful!
I listen every other day truly wonderful ❤
I can’t help it ; A celebration❤😂

The best sop player ever.
I started to tear up, this is so beautiful.
This is the recording I send to people to explain what it is about brass band music that I love.
Absolutely one of the most inspirational videos I have seen in many a long year. Congratulations to you all.

And it should be clear this is an Eb Soprano Cornet, as opposed to the "normal" Bb variety.

YBS Band, unfortnately no longer exists as of 2007.

I would suggest your son just listening to the music . . . the meaning will form inside your son.

SUPPORTIVE CONDUCTING,BRILLIANTLY DONE...................GEORGE THOMPSON MY TEACHER,MY INSPIRATION.
Who is the soloist?
Peter Roberts. Probably the best Sop player alive when he recorded this.
@TommyP993 inspired....

Sometimes conductors are ahead of the music. Other than that, he seems fine to me.

it is yes, easier to go higher though and its in Eb not Bb
Its not easier to play higher on the sop
Try one and find out, it,s harder to play the high notes on a sop, much harder. Also try the pic trumpet and you will find out.
neeeet schlecht !!!!!!
Stunning
