I think I have one that self seeded in my backyard. I used an app to identify it and it said it was a magenta Lilli Pilli but it doesn't seem to get the red berries, otherwise it's very much like one. It may have smaller leaves. Google has never been helpful in trying to identify it so that's why I used the app. Wish I knew with certainty.

I am not a botanist or expert home gardener, but say to those people who doubt the numbers of the Magenta Lilly Pilly: what you are probably seeing when you think you are seeing this Magental Lilly Pilly are the more common Lilly Pillys previously used widely as street trees etc. The Magenta Lilly Pilly certainly looks, on superficial inspection, just like other Lilly Pillys but it is not. Please trust the knowledge of the man who made this video. It is his job and I am sure he is well trained. And whats wrong with a government agency advertising what they are doing to help our threatened species? On another note - will these trees be developed for commercial sale to the public? That is one way to help the survival of the species. All the best in your endeavours.

How about selling these at plant nurseries just like the other lilly pillies that are sold - that was successful.

You want to stop it going extinct? Farm it, make it popular.

Are you sure about your facts? In South Africa there are so many lilly Pilly trees. When walking the dogs around the block the other day I spotted about 15. They are also all over university campuses and schools here

So they are all MAGENTA Lilly Pilly trees? Are you sure about YOUR facts? Of course we have to assume that you know there are different varieties of Lilly Pilly?

The degradation, destruction of the environment in the Hunter Valley by mining is tragic.

I could probably count a thousand of these trees in my suburb alone. Not sure where you get your numbers from. They are a messy tree and I wish the council never planted them along all the nature strips fifty years ago.
