Yeah it’s confusing, in Z there are 4 timelines Dimension A (where Mr.perfect cell is from)- original timeline Goku kills freeza and the Android takes over, Trunks defeats the Androids after going to dimension B but then cell kills him and travels to dimension C Dimension B- the timeline A Trunks goes to, is trained by goku and Vegeta and defeat the Androids, cell is most likely blown up along with Geros lab and never makes an appearance. Dimension C(main timeline) - where everything takes place Gohan defeats A Cell with the help of D Trunks Dimension D (Future Trunks’ timeline) - where he already meet A cell in dimension C so is prepared when his version of D Cell attacks him. Also goku Black Then we get to GT vs super, the Xeno/Heroes games and everything is fucked
Shobu556 well we know that the trunks that Cell killed did go back to the past, Cell knew that Trunks had already gone to the past and just went 3 years earlier. That would create another timeline as he was not present in the timeline where trunks had already gone back to so yeah I don’t really see it making sense with only 3.

Actually it's even more confusing than that. One of the guides says that in timeline B they don't defeat the androids but deactivate them, that Trunks didn't get to train with Vegeta but took the androids' blueprints which is why Trunks isn't strong enough to defeat Timeline A Cell
Trunks from D-A goes back to time to kill androids, then goes back to D-A we have two futures now. Cell from D-B kills trunks that's from ??????....that's what I don't get. They say trunks went back killed the androids then went to future and got killed by cell in the timeline where no androids exist. Let's say the original trunks who went back basically returned to his no friends timeline, the androids still exist though in his timeline, so does cell. So how come cell(who's from D-B) says he killed the gloating trunks when the gloating trunks was actually from D-B where he never went back to time to actually gloat, cause there was no androids since he already killed them.

With all the faults DBZ has, Akira Toriyama created most believable time travelling plot of all time. There are actually three timelines. In the first one Trunks didn't go to the past, as a result 17 and 18 destroyed the future. So, when that timleine's Trunks travel to the past he created another timeline., where he became stronger than the androids. He came back to the future destroyed the future androids. But in that timeline Cell killed him and took his ship and travel to the past. This created another timeline where perfect Cell was born.
Dont forget the Trunks we see in this episode. There has to be Trunks to go back to the main timeline. Cell's time travel created 2 timelines, the main one and the main Future Trunk's

There's 4 timelines: The original timeline: this is the future where everyone's dead and Bulma creates the time machine. Future Trunks is successful in killing the androids here in the future (it is speculated that he killed them with the self-destruct remote he discovered the plans back in time rather than by brute force as Cell never shows up in the past), which prompts Future Cell's ambush, this Future Trunks demise (i.e. the corpse referred in this episode) and the Cell (we are familiar with) time travel back to the past. The only footage we see from this timeline is Cell's ambush. Timeline #2 is the "original past" that the original Future Trunks created when he first time traveled. We have no footage of this timeline, but shouldn't be too different from the main timeline other than no Cell. Timeline #3 is alternative past that was created when Cell from timeline #1 travels back in time further than Trunks. This is the timeline that we watch (the "main timeline"), where the Cell Games unfold. Timeline #4 is the alternative future that was created simultaneously with timeline #3 since the universe needs a time-traveling Trunks to not create a paradox as Cell's presumably time traveled back to the past of the timeline #2 (where there has been a time-traveling Trunks) not timeline #1 (where there wasn't a time-traveling Trunks). There are other theories out there as well and things get more complicated when including the time-traveling of DB Super (specially as DBS does a really poor job at being consistent or logical about them), but those other theories requires circular logic and convenient "important" events that diverge the timelines that are not the actual time-travel itself.

But in the English manga they edit out the gun that was in the original (it goes from 17 removing it from the holster in one panel to it still being in by the next) and the sound effect is WHAM of 17 punching his face in, instead of a BANG.
In a nutshell, Trunks going back to the past created two different timelines; one (that we dont see) where they find the remote deactivation blueprints and turn off the present androids, then Trunks goes back to the future and does the same there (Cell references that Trunks somehow deactivated them in his time), but because they went that route, Goku, Vegeta and Trunks never trained and learned to ascend so Cell was able to easily kill that Trunks who then stole the time machine and ended up in OUR version of events.
You know, that last whimper from 18, when she says "wait" before getting instantly obliterated is honestly very sad. I mean, she absolutely deserved it in this timeline, by all accounts, but it still hits different.

Actually, there is four timeline that we know of in the dragonball mythos (not counting super) : 1) The one we follow since the beginning, where Perfect Cell is killed, etc 2) Future Trunks timeline where he kill the androids and Cell 3) An alternate Future Trunks timeline where he defeat the androids with a deactivation switch and then Cell kill him and take his time machine. 4) This one, we know very little of it, except that where timeline 3 trunks got his deactivation switch, so that is probably a very similar timeline that number 1, except they never encounter Cell, and solve the android problem by deactivating them.

Think of it as the time machine going back and to the left when he goes back and forward and to the right when he returns to his time. The other time where cell kills him and takes the time machine is from just to the left instead of back and to the left.
Ah the old Cell Saga Timeline conundrum. Me and my friends talked about this all the time back in day. The most common explanation is that there are three timelines. I should note, that I will be calling them Timelines but they are effectively parallel universes (or parallel multiverses if you are using Super's canon) with identical histories that diverge at the point of the Time Machine's arrival. The original Everybody Dies Timeline spawns a second Unseen Timeline when Trunks first travels back to give Goku the heart medicine. Once a new Timeline is established, the Time Machine can travel back and forth between the two like changing lanes on a highway. As long as you don't travel to before the divergence point, you can travel to anytime in the other lane without creating a new Timeline. We know this because Trunks has not aged three years when he returns to help the gang fight the Androids, therefore he did not spend three years waiting in the future to return. He simply waited for the Time Machine to refuel and traveled to the established date of the Android's arrival. Keep in mind that this indicates, (or proves it if you count the time rings from Super) that there are ways to time travel that do NOT create new Timelines when hopping back and forth between established Timelines. There is no Perfect Cell in this timeline, so Trunks and the gang defeat the past Androids. He returns to the Everybody Dies timeline and defeats his version of the Androids. Only for him to be killed by Imperfect Cell as he is about to return to the Unseen Timeline to let everyone know he was victorious. Cell pushes the arrival date back but does not realize the machine is set to visit another timeline. By visiting the Unseen Timeline before the divergence point, the bio-android creates a third branch, Perfect Cell's Timeline. Confused yet. You should be because this breaks time in several ways. First, because Perfect Cell's Timeline is a copy of the Unseen Timeline, it also copied Trunks arrival from the future. This is a paradox because this Trunks basically comes from nowhere, having been created when the Timelines split. Of course from his perspective, he comes from Everybody Dies Time but that is actually not the case. This is why he is surprised that events are different in the series. He does not realize there are three Timelines and he is now in one that diverged many years before his arrival. I won't summarize Perfect Cell's Timeline because it is the show but it does end with a second paradox. At some point in the both the Unseen and Perfect Cell's Timelines, a Trunks returns to Everybody Dies Timeline, I would assume around the same time as Trunks of both timelines would set their return destination for the same time and place in the original Everybody Dies Timeline. We can only assume that the Trunks that created the Unseen Timeline is somehow erased or overwritten by the arrival of a second Trunks. When "new" Trunks defeats Imperfect Cell in the epilogue, well after any possible divergence points, it effectively changes that world's future without creating a new timeline. This should have erased the Perfect Cell Timeline because the bio-android never gets to make the trip that created it. But it doesn't because that would also erase the Trunks prevented Imperfect Cell from making the journey. When it's all said and done, we end up with a Future Trunks and a Perfect Cell that both come from "nowhere", destroy and create each other. For messing with the time, the Everybody Dies Trunks is erased or lost and sadly, no one, not even his mother realizes. Somehow all three Timelines are preserved and continue free of the threat of Androids, more or less. I know this is complicated but I promise you that my friends and I literally plotted this on a white board multiple times and talked about it for weeks. Yes we are huge geeks and I am, in particular, fascinated by time travel. Once you realize the idea that Time Travel, a purely fictional concept, can have whatever rules you want it to, it becomes one of the most fascinating storytelling devices ever. I was also like to add that before Super, I assumed that the first Trunks got stuck in a sort of loop that kept spawning new Timelines that would essentially create a Dragon Ball Omniverse that included all the movies, games, and what not as their own Timelines. That being said, I like the tragic note it adds if he was just lost.
About Time-Travel and the Timelines: There are 4 different Timelines in DBZ. When the Future Trunks we know travels he only creates one single new timeline (he comes from the 3rd, he creates the 4th), and he keeps switching between them. Since he never travels further back than in any of his previous travels he doesn't create new Timelines, keeps them paradox-free and he keeps traveling between the same ones in sync, not creating more. Please notice this kind of Time Traveling is often referred as "Multiverse Time Travel" or "Multiple Timelines": when someone travels in time, he creates a new Timeline. However one can avoid doing so if he somehow "syncs" with the Timeline by not traveling further back than any of the events he lived and/or always traveling back the exact same amount of time (as in, going away for 2 years in his own timeline before coming back to ours 2 years later, always traveling back let's say 15 years to the past). In the 1st Timeline Goku dies of a disease, the androids kill everyone, Trunks grows and travels back to the past (creating the 2nd "unseen" Timeline) to warn them and bring medicine. They find a way to kill the androids (presumably the Control Remote). Cell never appears here during the "Android Problem", so Piccolo didn't fuse with Kami and wasn't there to slow down the androids, so the Control Remote had to be used (probably after they killed Goku at Kame-House, so Krillin didn't feel bad about it). Trunks goes back to his own timeline and uses the same device to deactivate and kill the androids... Then the recently finished Cell from the 1st Timeline emerges from Dr. Gero's lab, kills this Button-Using Trunks that didn't become stronger (easy kill) and alters the Time Machine to travel further back into the past, desync-ing it and creating a 3rd Timeline (the one where the Future Trunks we know is from). The 2nd Timeline (just briefly mentioned above) is never really seen nor shown in the show (and is often refered as the "Unseen Timeline"). The closest we get is the 1st Timeline Trunks dying to the 1st Timeline Cell when he was about to go back to the 2nd Timeline to tell them the Kill-Button worked, but since the 1st Timeline Cell de-synced the time machine to travel further into the past, he created a new timeline (the 3rd Timeline) instead of going back to the 2nd Timeline that the original Trunks created. It's unknown what happened to this time line Cell when he grew up and couldn't find androids nor time machines to use, or what happened to our heroes when Babidi came to Earth and they didn't had the training/boost they went through from facing Cell. The 3rd Timeline is created by the 1st Timeline Cell when he travels further back than the original (now dead) Trunks did, this is the future we seen in the show and were the Future-Trunks we know comes from. Since Cell never disrupted the 3rd Timeline (he just burrowed somewhere to mature in the wait for the Androids) this new timeline plays exactly like the original 1st Timeline did: Goku dies from the disease, the Androids kill everyone, Trunks grows and goes back to the past.... This time creating a new 4th time-line (the one we all know and love). Since Trunks went back to a point in time AFTER Cell did this 4th Timeline comes with a time-traveling Cell ("cloned" form the 3rd Timeline but originally from the original 1st Timeline, mind you) burrowed on it already. It's believed that when this time-traveling Cell (from the 1st Timeline) emerged from his cocoon, he sensed the weak Ki signatures of the Z-Fighters (ones that were never warned by a future Trunks so didn't train non-stop and were considerable weaker) and rushed there to try to absorb the androids (instead of realizing he needed to absorb more people to become stronger first) and was probably killed alongside/just-after the Z-Fighters by androids that were stronger that he was (he couldn't sense their energies only the way-weaker Z-Fighters). So neither Future Trunks nor Bulma never heard/knew of him. The 4th Timeline is the one we all know. Trunks came to warn us about the future, a time-traveling Cell (from the 1st Timeline mind you, but "cloned" from the 3rd when the 4th was created) was already burrowed on it. The Androids were stronger than in Trunk's timeline (unknown if because they were "fully charged" and had more energy than they will have in 15 years, or because the Dr. Gero Spy-Robots caught on the Z-Fighters training (for the Androids) and had to make them even stronger to account for it. When the Future Trunks we know goes back to his 3rd Timeline, the Cell he kills is the one from his own Timeline that was just finished being done in Dr. Gero's lab and was trying to go back to the past to find the androids, just like the 1st Timeline Cell did. This is a perfectly fitting and amazing beautiful theory that I will always believe in, no matter what anyone says... that got fucked up when Toriyama decided to play again with Time-Travel in Dragon Ball Super, without knowing shit about Time Traveling (or writing in general, even if I love Dragon Ball) or asking for help or advice to someone that had a better grasp of the Time-Travel he presented us with in DBZ.... So he did a mess with the whole thing that makes no fucking sense anymore... It's equivalent to saying "Magic!". So sad Y_Y (So just ignore the mess presented in DBS and be perfectly happy with this perfect explanation of the DBZ Timelines). In short: - The 4th Timeline is the one we all know and love and have been following from the beginning. - The Perfect Cell we know and the Trunks-that-got-killed were from the original 1st Timeline (but our Cell was "copied" from already existing in the 3rd Timeline, so even if he came from the 1st Timeline he appeared in both the 3rd and the 4th). - The "original" 1st Timeline is the saddest of them all: Goku dies form disease, everyone is killed by the Androids, and then Trunks is killed by Cell that proceeds to abandon the Timeline all together. Babidi is probably happy in this one. - The 2nd Timeline was never shown in the show at all, is where the Trunks-that-got-killed by Cell was going to travel back to. The Androids in here were most likely killed by the Kill-Button. - The 3rd Timeline is where Future Trunks is from. It also contained a time-traveling Cell that probably got killed on his 1st form because he rushed to encounter the androids based on the non-android-trained weaker Z-Fighter Ki Signatures when they fought them.

Ok. So, Perfect Cell that was kill by Gohan came from a timeline where Trunks had traveled back and the z warriors defeated 17 and 18 and trunks was going back to celebrate with Goku and the others when he got jumped. It's that version of himself he's talking about.
The corpse he meant is the one Perfect Cell killed in another line where Trunks had killed 17/18, he then goes to the mainline to get that 17/18 and lose to Gohan and Veggie. This Trunks killed the 17/18/Cell from his timeline, and he mentioned understanding Veggie cost him his life. He refers to Perfect Cell killing him in the mainline but hes revived after Perfect Cell dies.

Tenebrarum Domini Broly is better for sure but I think people are expecting too much from Jiren. He served his purpose as a plot device to make Goku reach a new level, and tbh I didn’t really want more from him. Glad he was introduced into the series, but hope we don’t see him again cause him doing anything outside of acting as a plot device would be weird and out of character. This is a very confusing paragraph I know lol.

14:30, time travel is confusing. There are 4 timelines in the cell saga. 1 past timeline where cell was never a thing, 1 future timeline where Trunks was murdered by cell, 1 past timeline where ssj2 gohan kills perfect cell, & 1 future timeline where Trunks kills cell.
There’s a timeline where Trunks went back in time to kill Frieza, got stronger, came back to his future and killed the Androids, and then was ambushed and killed by Imperfect Cell, which grew in Gero’s lab for 17 years and he never knew about. That Imperfect Cell went to the past and became Mr. Perfect Cell, creator of the Cell Games: sponsored by Hetap
The Cell that Gohan defeated explained to Trunks that Cell killed Trunks and stole the time machine, so when our Trunks got to that point in his timeline he knew that Cell was there unlike the androids who never went back in time and as a result creating branching timelines, so they don't remember Trunks because he created a branching timeline while his timeline is still the same as it was before he left it.

when trunks went back the first time, 2 time lines exist. he then returned to his. later on, Cell killed Trunks in a 3RD time limit, and came to the one trunks was in, helping the others. Trunks created the 2nd time limit, Cell created the 3rd. It's easy to understand.
So there are 2 future timelines and 3 present time lines I think. The first present is no future trunks and the androids kill everyone, the second Trunks comes back and helps them kill the androids but they don't know about Cell, and the third where Trunks and Cell both come back that we watched. The future time lines are the one were Trunks goes back and helps them with the androids then comes back deals with his androids and then cell kills him and takes his time machine, and the second that we just watched.
Anybody else feel like DBZA stopped being DBZA after Cell showed up? Like from the Saiyan Saga through the Android Saga before Cell showed up, it would parody the original series, add little Easter eggs and point out flaws in the series logic, etc. But then after Cell showed up it felt like they were just straight up trying to make their own story. At least that's how it felt with me. Like the old DBZA made me bust out laughing while after the second episode of the Cell Games I would MAYBE chuckle.

Yes, they’ve started taking themselves and their work a lot more seriously. It was bound to happen. As their writing got better with time they’ve maneuvered from comedic filled episodes to more seriously produced ones with a few jokes here and there. You can see this in episode 60, it’s so serious that it feels like I’m watching an official dub of the anime.
There are 3 timelines. Original timeline: everyone is killed by Androids trunks time travels creating 2nd timeline and comes back and defeats the androids but then gets killed by imperfect cell and imperfect cell time travels creating 3rd timeline. 2nd timeline: Trunks comes back and they defeat the androids. There is no cell, they never go into the hyperbolic time chamber. 3rd timeline: the one we seen.

There are 5 total green rings after Zamasu in Super. So that would mean 6 total timelines. Main, Trunks Future, Beerus killing Zamasu (created the 5th time ring, possibly later destroyed after Zeno killed Zamasu), Trunks Future where Cell kills Trunks. Not sure of the other two unless one is made every time Trunks travels to the past from his timeline. Maybe one of them is the timeline Trunks and Whatshername go to after the universe/timeline is erased.
I think they said they will be doing the tournament next as well as another movie, so we'll have a little bit of a buffer too season 4 starts, which I'm sure scripting at least for the first part is done cause he did say he knew where he wanted a lot of the jokes to go

Yeah it’s confusing, in Z there are 4 timelines
Dimension A (where Mr.perfect cell is from)- original timeline Goku kills freeza and the Android takes over, Trunks defeats the Androids after going to dimension B but then cell kills him and travels to dimension C
Dimension B- the timeline A Trunks goes to, is trained by goku and Vegeta and defeat the Androids, cell is most likely blown up along with Geros lab and never makes an appearance.
Dimension C(main timeline) - where everything takes place Gohan defeats A Cell with the help of D Trunks
Dimension D (Future Trunks’ timeline) - where he already meet A cell in dimension C so is prepared when his version of D Cell attacks him. Also goku Black

That would create another timeline as he was not present in the timeline where trunks had already gone back to so yeah I don’t really see it making sense with only 3.

Actually it's even more confusing than that. One of the guides says that in timeline B they don't defeat the androids but deactivate them, that Trunks didn't get to train with Vegeta but took the androids' blueprints which is why Trunks isn't strong enough to defeat Timeline A Cell

Trunks from D-A goes back to time to kill androids, then goes back to D-A we have two futures now. Cell from D-B kills trunks that's from ??????....that's what I don't get. They say trunks went back killed the androids then went to future and got killed by cell in the timeline where no androids exist. Let's say the original trunks who went back basically returned to his no friends timeline, the androids still exist though in his timeline, so does cell. So how come cell(who's from D-B) says he killed the gloating trunks when the gloating trunks was actually from D-B where he never went back to time to actually gloat, cause there was no androids since he already killed them.

With all the faults DBZ has, Akira Toriyama created most believable time travelling plot of all time. There are actually three timelines. In the first one Trunks didn't go to the past, as a result 17 and 18 destroyed the future. So, when that timleine's Trunks travel to the past he created another timeline., where he became stronger than the androids. He came back to the future destroyed the future androids. But in that timeline Cell killed him and took his ship and travel to the past. This created another timeline where perfect Cell was born.
Dont forget the Trunks we see in this episode. There has to be Trunks to go back to the main timeline. Cell's time travel created 2 timelines, the main one and the main Future Trunk's

Finally watching this video, many months after watching the episodes. MAN y'all make it sound harder to understand than it is, which makes me feel smarter than I am. I like you guys.
There's 4 timelines:
The original timeline: this is the future where everyone's dead and Bulma creates the time machine. Future Trunks is successful in killing the androids here in the future (it is speculated that he killed them with the self-destruct remote he discovered the plans back in time rather than by brute force as Cell never shows up in the past), which prompts Future Cell's ambush, this Future Trunks demise (i.e. the corpse referred in this episode) and the Cell (we are familiar with) time travel back to the past. The only footage we see from this timeline is Cell's ambush.
Timeline #2 is the "original past" that the original Future Trunks created when he first time traveled. We have no footage of this timeline, but shouldn't be too different from the main timeline other than no Cell.
Timeline #3 is alternative past that was created when Cell from timeline #1 travels back in time further than Trunks. This is the timeline that we watch (the "main timeline"), where the Cell Games unfold.
Timeline #4 is the alternative future that was created simultaneously with timeline #3 since the universe needs a time-traveling Trunks to not create a paradox as Cell's presumably time traveled back to the past of the timeline #2 (where there has been a time-traveling Trunks) not timeline #1 (where there wasn't a time-traveling Trunks).
There are other theories out there as well and things get more complicated when including the time-traveling of DB Super (specially as DBS does a really poor job at being consistent or logical about them), but those other theories requires circular logic and convenient "important" events that diverge the timelines that are not the actual time-travel itself.

You said they guy with the gun, that 18 kills, looks like Gero, but I always thought he was a dead-ringer for Dr. Wily, the main villain from the Megaman series. Always seemed ironic to me, because Dr. Wily made evil robots, and here he is getting killed by an evil robot.
Perfect idea for what to do until DBZA returns, a Clavin and Aaron react to the original DBZ Cell Saga with the Funimation dub and music, so they can see how the anime portrayed the story and then compare/discuss what they liked/didn't like about the original to the Abridged version.

But in the English manga they edit out the gun that was in the original (it goes from 17 removing it from the holster in one panel to it still being in by the next) and the sound effect is WHAM of 17 punching his face in, instead of a BANG.
In a nutshell, Trunks going back to the past created two different timelines; one (that we dont see) where they find the remote deactivation blueprints and turn off the present androids, then Trunks goes back to the future and does the same there (Cell references that Trunks somehow deactivated them in his time), but because they went that route, Goku, Vegeta and Trunks never trained and learned to ascend so Cell was able to easily kill that Trunks who then stole the time machine and ended up in OUR version of events.

You know, that last whimper from 18, when she says "wait" before getting instantly obliterated is honestly very sad. I mean, she absolutely deserved it in this timeline, by all accounts, but it still hits different.

in the beginning while trunks returns to his timeline we hear an instrumental/orchestra version of his theme (aoi kaze no hope) as well as when he killed cell :)
Actually, there is four timeline that we know of in the dragonball mythos (not counting super) :
1) The one we follow since the beginning, where Perfect Cell is killed, etc
2) Future Trunks timeline where he kill the androids and Cell
3) An alternate Future Trunks timeline where he defeat the androids with a deactivation switch and then Cell kill him and take his time machine.
4) This one, we know very little of it, except that where timeline 3 trunks got his deactivation switch, so that is probably a very similar timeline that number 1, except they never encounter Cell, and solve the android problem by deactivating them.
They'll still encounter Cell whenever he finishes being made but at that point they'd probably flick him to death.

Think of it as the time machine going back and to the left when he goes back and forward and to the right when he returns to his time. The other time where cell kills him and takes the time machine is from just to the left instead of back and to the left.
Ah the old Cell Saga Timeline conundrum. Me and my friends talked about this all the time back in day. The most common explanation is that there are three timelines. I should note, that I will be calling them Timelines but they are effectively parallel universes (or parallel multiverses if you are using Super's canon) with identical histories that diverge at the point of the Time Machine's arrival.
The original Everybody Dies Timeline spawns a second Unseen Timeline when Trunks first travels back to give Goku the heart medicine. Once a new Timeline is established, the Time Machine can travel back and forth between the two like changing lanes on a highway. As long as you don't travel to before the divergence point, you can travel to anytime in the other lane without creating a new Timeline. We know this because Trunks has not aged three years when he returns to help the gang fight the Androids, therefore he did not spend three years waiting in the future to return. He simply waited for the Time Machine to refuel and traveled to the established date of the Android's arrival. Keep in mind that this indicates, (or proves it if you count the time rings from Super) that there are ways to time travel that do NOT create new Timelines when hopping back and forth between established Timelines. There is no Perfect Cell in this timeline, so Trunks and the gang defeat the past Androids. He returns to the Everybody Dies timeline and defeats his version of the Androids. Only for him to be killed by Imperfect Cell as he is about to return to the Unseen Timeline to let everyone know he was victorious. Cell pushes the arrival date back but does not realize the machine is set to visit another timeline. By visiting the Unseen Timeline before the divergence point, the bio-android creates a third branch, Perfect Cell's Timeline.
Confused yet. You should be because this breaks time in several ways. First, because Perfect Cell's Timeline is a copy of the Unseen Timeline, it also copied Trunks arrival from the future. This is a paradox because this Trunks basically comes from nowhere, having been created when the Timelines split. Of course from his perspective, he comes from Everybody Dies Time but that is actually not the case. This is why he is surprised that events are different in the series. He does not realize there are three Timelines and he is now in one that diverged many years before his arrival. I won't summarize Perfect Cell's Timeline because it is the show but it does end with a second paradox. At some point in the both the Unseen and Perfect Cell's Timelines, a Trunks returns to Everybody Dies Timeline, I would assume around the same time as Trunks of both timelines would set their return destination for the same time and place in the original Everybody Dies Timeline. We can only assume that the Trunks that created the Unseen Timeline is somehow erased or overwritten by the arrival of a second Trunks. When "new" Trunks defeats Imperfect Cell in the epilogue, well after any possible divergence points, it effectively changes that world's future without creating a new timeline. This should have erased the Perfect Cell Timeline because the bio-android never gets to make the trip that created it. But it doesn't because that would also erase the Trunks prevented Imperfect Cell from making the journey. When it's all said and done, we end up with a Future Trunks and a Perfect Cell that both come from "nowhere", destroy and create each other. For messing with the time, the Everybody Dies Trunks is erased or lost and sadly, no one, not even his mother realizes. Somehow all three Timelines are preserved and continue free of the threat of Androids, more or less.
I know this is complicated but I promise you that my friends and I literally plotted this on a white board multiple times and talked about it for weeks. Yes we are huge geeks and I am, in particular, fascinated by time travel. Once you realize the idea that Time Travel, a purely fictional concept, can have whatever rules you want it to, it becomes one of the most fascinating storytelling devices ever. I was also like to add that before Super, I assumed that the first Trunks got stuck in a sort of loop that kept spawning new Timelines that would essentially create a Dragon Ball Omniverse that included all the movies, games, and what not as their own Timelines. That being said, I like the tragic note it adds if he was just lost.
About Time-Travel and the Timelines: There are 4 different Timelines in DBZ. When the Future Trunks we know travels he only creates one single new timeline (he comes from the 3rd, he creates the 4th), and he keeps switching between them. Since he never travels further back than in any of his previous travels he doesn't create new Timelines, keeps them paradox-free and he keeps traveling between the same ones in sync, not creating more.
Please notice this kind of Time Traveling is often referred as "Multiverse Time Travel" or "Multiple Timelines": when someone travels in time, he creates a new Timeline. However one can avoid doing so if he somehow "syncs" with the Timeline by not traveling further back than any of the events he lived and/or always traveling back the exact same amount of time (as in, going away for 2 years in his own timeline before coming back to ours 2 years later, always traveling back let's say 15 years to the past).
In the 1st Timeline Goku dies of a disease, the androids kill everyone, Trunks grows and travels back to the past (creating the 2nd "unseen" Timeline) to warn them and bring medicine. They find a way to kill the androids (presumably the Control Remote). Cell never appears here during the "Android Problem", so Piccolo didn't fuse with Kami and wasn't there to slow down the androids, so the Control Remote had to be used (probably after they killed Goku at Kame-House, so Krillin didn't feel bad about it). Trunks goes back to his own timeline and uses the same device to deactivate and kill the androids... Then the recently finished Cell from the 1st Timeline emerges from Dr. Gero's lab, kills this Button-Using Trunks that didn't become stronger (easy kill) and alters the Time Machine to travel further back into the past, desync-ing it and creating a 3rd Timeline (the one where the Future Trunks we know is from).
The 2nd Timeline (just briefly mentioned above) is never really seen nor shown in the show (and is often refered as the "Unseen Timeline"). The closest we get is the 1st Timeline Trunks dying to the 1st Timeline Cell when he was about to go back to the 2nd Timeline to tell them the Kill-Button worked, but since the 1st Timeline Cell de-synced the time machine to travel further into the past, he created a new timeline (the 3rd Timeline) instead of going back to the 2nd Timeline that the original Trunks created. It's unknown what happened to this time line Cell when he grew up and couldn't find androids nor time machines to use, or what happened to our heroes when Babidi came to Earth and they didn't had the training/boost they went through from facing Cell.
The 3rd Timeline is created by the 1st Timeline Cell when he travels further back than the original (now dead) Trunks did, this is the future we seen in the show and were the Future-Trunks we know comes from. Since Cell never disrupted the 3rd Timeline (he just burrowed somewhere to mature in the wait for the Androids) this new timeline plays exactly like the original 1st Timeline did: Goku dies from the disease, the Androids kill everyone, Trunks grows and goes back to the past.... This time creating a new 4th time-line (the one we all know and love). Since Trunks went back to a point in time AFTER Cell did this 4th Timeline comes with a time-traveling Cell ("cloned" form the 3rd Timeline but originally from the original 1st Timeline, mind you) burrowed on it already.
It's believed that when this time-traveling Cell (from the 1st Timeline) emerged from his cocoon, he sensed the weak Ki signatures of the Z-Fighters (ones that were never warned by a future Trunks so didn't train non-stop and were considerable weaker) and rushed there to try to absorb the androids (instead of realizing he needed to absorb more people to become stronger first) and was probably killed alongside/just-after the Z-Fighters by androids that were stronger that he was (he couldn't sense their energies only the way-weaker Z-Fighters). So neither Future Trunks nor Bulma never heard/knew of him.
The 4th Timeline is the one we all know. Trunks came to warn us about the future, a time-traveling Cell (from the 1st Timeline mind you, but "cloned" from the 3rd when the 4th was created) was already burrowed on it. The Androids were stronger than in Trunk's timeline (unknown if because they were "fully charged" and had more energy than they will have in 15 years, or because the Dr. Gero Spy-Robots caught on the Z-Fighters training (for the Androids) and had to make them even stronger to account for it. When the Future Trunks we know goes back to his 3rd Timeline, the Cell he kills is the one from his own Timeline that was just finished being done in Dr. Gero's lab and was trying to go back to the past to find the androids, just like the 1st Timeline Cell did.
This is a perfectly fitting and amazing beautiful theory that I will always believe in, no matter what anyone says... that got fucked up when Toriyama decided to play again with Time-Travel in Dragon Ball Super, without knowing shit about Time Traveling (or writing in general, even if I love Dragon Ball) or asking for help or advice to someone that had a better grasp of the Time-Travel he presented us with in DBZ.... So he did a mess with the whole thing that makes no fucking sense anymore... It's equivalent to saying "Magic!". So sad Y_Y (So just ignore the mess presented in DBS and be perfectly happy with this perfect explanation of the DBZ Timelines).
In short:
- The 4th Timeline is the one we all know and love and have been following from the beginning.
- The Perfect Cell we know and the Trunks-that-got-killed were from the original 1st Timeline (but our Cell was "copied" from already existing in the 3rd Timeline, so even if he came from the 1st Timeline he appeared in both the 3rd and the 4th).
- The "original" 1st Timeline is the saddest of them all: Goku dies form disease, everyone is killed by the Androids, and then Trunks is killed by Cell that proceeds to abandon the Timeline all together. Babidi is probably happy in this one.
- The 2nd Timeline was never shown in the show at all, is where the Trunks-that-got-killed by Cell was going to travel back to. The Androids in here were most likely killed by the Kill-Button.
- The 3rd Timeline is where Future Trunks is from. It also contained a time-traveling Cell that probably got killed on his 1st form because he rushed to encounter the androids based on the non-android-trained weaker Z-Fighter Ki Signatures when they fought them.
A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one, now that the crew is all back, we need the last two episodes of Hellsing Abrigded!

When Trunks and Bulma are doing their rehearsed skit its playing Dragon Quest music, which Akira Toriyama also helped create. Which is why the ain character from Dragon Quest 11 looks exactly like Tunks.
Ok. So, Perfect Cell that was kill by Gohan came from a timeline where Trunks had traveled back and the z warriors defeated 17 and 18 and trunks was going back to celebrate with Goku and the others when he got jumped. It's that version of himself he's talking about.
The corpse he meant is the one Perfect Cell killed in another line where Trunks had killed 17/18, he then goes to the mainline to get that 17/18 and lose to Gohan and Veggie.
This Trunks killed the 17/18/Cell from his timeline, and he mentioned understanding Veggie cost him his life. He refers to Perfect Cell killing him in the mainline but hes revived after Perfect Cell dies.

Yes, he does die in the manga. That's why TFS kept it as him dying, because it was canon to manga.

Future Trunks will forever be the most badass character in DBZ. In a world of showboating, grandstanding clowns who want a "good fight," it's refreshing to have someone who just gets shit done.

Tenebrarum Domini Broly is better for sure but I think people are expecting too much from Jiren. He served his purpose as a plot device to make Goku reach a new level, and tbh I didn’t really want more from him. Glad he was introduced into the series, but hope we don’t see him again cause him doing anything outside of acting as a plot device would be weird and out of character. This is a very confusing paragraph I know lol.
Can I explain? There is 3 trunks timelines, (that we know of)
1)-where trunks kills the androids.
2)-where cell kills trunks to get back to past to reach PERFECT CELL
3)-DBZ timeline.

14:30, time travel is confusing. There are 4 timelines in the cell saga. 1 past timeline where cell was never a thing, 1 future timeline where Trunks was murdered by cell, 1 past timeline where ssj2 gohan kills perfect cell, & 1 future timeline where Trunks kills cell.
There’s a timeline where Trunks went back in time to kill Frieza, got stronger, came back to his future and killed the Androids, and then was ambushed and killed by Imperfect Cell, which grew in Gero’s lab for 17 years and he never knew about. That Imperfect Cell went to the past and became Mr. Perfect Cell, creator of the Cell Games: sponsored by Hetap

The Cell that Gohan defeated explained to Trunks that Cell killed Trunks and stole the time machine, so when our Trunks got to that point in his timeline he knew that Cell was there unlike the androids who never went back in time and as a result creating branching timelines, so they don't remember Trunks because he created a branching timeline while his timeline is still the same as it was before he left it.

When Trunks travels back in time, he creates another universe.
When Cell travels back in time, he creates another pair of Trunks universes.

they said they were going to take 5 months to plan it and record and edit it and then they would release episodes in an weekly episodic release like the did with episode 60 part 1-3, we may get some movies b4 that though ie: bojack unbound and the otherworld tournament
when trunks went back the first time, 2 time lines exist. he then returned to his. later on, Cell killed Trunks in a 3RD time limit, and came to the one trunks was in, helping the others. Trunks created the 2nd time limit, Cell created the 3rd. It's easy to understand.
So there are 2 future timelines and 3 present time lines I think. The first present is no future trunks and the androids kill everyone, the second Trunks comes back and helps them kill the androids but they don't know about Cell, and the third where Trunks and Cell both come back that we watched. The future time lines are the one were Trunks goes back and helps them with the androids then comes back deals with his androids and then cell kills him and takes his time machine, and the second that we just watched.

Like from the Saiyan Saga through the Android Saga before Cell showed up, it would parody the original series, add little Easter eggs and point out flaws in the series logic, etc. But then after Cell showed up it felt like they were just straight up trying to make their own story. At least that's how it felt with me. Like the old DBZA made me bust out laughing while after the second episode of the Cell Games I would MAYBE chuckle.

I would say that happened with episode 60. After Cell dies in part 3 it's not really funny until the post-credits, not bad but not funny
Yes, they’ve started taking themselves and their work a lot more seriously. It was bound to happen. As their writing got better with time they’ve maneuvered from comedic filled episodes to more seriously produced ones with a few jokes here and there. You can see this in episode 60, it’s so serious that it feels like I’m watching an official dub of the anime.

There are 3 timelines.
Original timeline: everyone is killed by Androids trunks time travels creating 2nd timeline and comes back and defeats the androids but then gets killed by imperfect cell and imperfect cell time travels creating 3rd timeline.
2nd timeline: Trunks comes back and they defeat the androids. There is no cell, they never go into the hyperbolic time chamber.
3rd timeline: the one we seen.

There are 5 total green rings after Zamasu in Super. So that would mean 6 total timelines. Main, Trunks Future, Beerus killing Zamasu (created the 5th time ring, possibly later destroyed after Zeno killed Zamasu), Trunks Future where Cell kills Trunks. Not sure of the other two unless one is made every time Trunks travels to the past from his timeline.
Maybe one of them is the timeline Trunks and Whatshername go to after the universe/timeline is erased.

I think they said they will be doing the tournament next as well as another movie, so we'll have a little bit of a buffer too season 4 starts, which I'm sure scripting at least for the first part is done cause he did say he knew where he wanted a lot of the jokes to go
