If one make's a handmade ring, it should be unique , not like any other casted mounting. the cup he created under the diamond is going to block light from underneath and it will reduce the brilliance of the diamond. So much good work for a common design.
The light that sparkles out of a round brilliant cut diamond, went in the top and is reflected back out of the top. That's what they are faceted to do. No light comes from underneath a ring. Stop spouting ignorance.

Excellent work!! I'm a goldsmith and one client of mine ordered me a platinum ring.......although he gave me platinum (old rings and earrings) after melting it.......when i go to shape it it breaks in pieces.......any ideas?
Yes, platinum is a very delicate metal, it should be melted in carbon crucibles, also if there are welds of other materials or impurities often during the rolling it breaks. When it happens to me I have to cleanse and re-alloy. Unfortunately, the purification costs for platinum are very high.
