My best fly to catch bass and stripers deep is the 60° Jig Hook Whistler fly. Underwater action!

  • Bass, stripers, redfish, trout and many other species of fish will readily take this fly. The key components that make this fly a winner are movement, sound, flash and a hook point up that allows for fewer bottom snags. The 60° jig hook allows you to fish it as a streamer and it creates a much better hook set angle than a 90° jig hook. This hook style also uses less weight than a traditional hook to get the hook point to ride up. The bucktail and flashabou add great movement while the stiff heavy collar pushes so much water that fish can hear or feel it from a long distance. On my home lake in Georgia, Lake Allatoona, I have observed this fly turning fish 180° when stripped hard and sound is created. I have fished this fly on a dry line and a sinking line with great success in fresh and saltwater. I have even caught large trout in Montana rivers using this streamer when when the trout were wise to the more common trout streamers. Any sport fish that eats baitfish will take this fly.
