I shoot more videos now but when I did shoot pics I would edit the pics with different effects to hypen them up. I do the samething with my videos because that's what the kids want to see.
This video ROCKS 💯 It's rare that I take notes from a video, but for this one, I did. Great rundown on field positions, the equipment used, and the types of shots you look to get.
My first time here, im about to shoot Peewee Football. I been shooting for a year and i been grinding!!! i shoot with a Nikon D3200 and i have a 35mm (52mm on my crop) and 55-200 (82.5-300mm on my crop) and i just wanted some pointers. i been doing street photography and event photography. Im from Cali and the Black Bike set and the Lowrider set is really active! so i have some confidence to start. Perhaps kids is a lot easier that Harleys and Hopping Cars. anyhow, Thank you for the Info! i Subscribed and looking forward to more knowledge. **i shared a lil bit of story in case someone else was shy about their story!
Great video. I'm a novice in sport photography, Ive been doing it for about a year. these nuggets is what I needed to hear to step my game up. Thank you for taking the time.
Go Army! I shoot my son’s baseball game and the parents love the shots, because I have a big lens and get the shots from either dugout. I enjoy your videos and work 👍👍
FINALLY!!! We’ve been waiting for awhile for you to start sharing. I found you months ago through Ty from Flash Film when he mentioned you. Thanks for sharing
I’m tuned in…. My gear is not the latest & limited right now until i can learn the ropes in this photography thing. But i’m here because my son will be playing middle school football this year & i want to get some film of him this season.
Hey, Ricky great content as usual... The only thing I noticed was an editing blooper. At the one minute mark, your graphic was left of the screen but you pointed to the right of the screen🤷🏽♀️. That might just be me though😆🤦🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️! All in all, I enjoying the advice your sharing keep it up, buddy😊!
Great video review on the different approach to photography football players . On a off the playing field . But in your next video , if you can explain how I can get into having the opportunity to photograph college level football games ? In other words . How can I get permission to photograph the game . Staying within all the rules ! I have been turned away from entering the game , just for having a professional camera in my hands !
Thanks so much for posting your content. I'm looking to do my first coverage of some high school football games in Maryland this year. This has really helped to start to form some plans of attack. I see it's been a good bit since this video and hope your doing well.
I've only shot two games before. but been in the UK and knowing nothing about the sport, I found I don't know just what I should be focused on during the plays. Plus the UK teams are part-timers so I don't know if it's me missing the dramatic action shots through poor timing, or the players never quite get into those positions as they lack the speed & power of US professional players?
hey, I like your videos, I'm new to the photography game and as of now, I'm only shooting my son's high school games. My issue is getting familiar with my camera. I have a "starter camera" a canon t6, and I wanted to get the most out of it before I upgrade. Any advice on what lenses and settings I should be using? As of now all i use is the lens that came with the cam and I shoot in sport mode, but I feel I can be doing much more and better.
I would look for a used Canon 70-200mm F4 lens for around $600. Also a nice fast lens to get would be a Canon 50mm F1.8 STM lens. I would shoot with your shutter speed at least 1/1000th. I personally like shooting action around 1/2000th and faster to freeze the action totally. I'd put my F Stop wide open, F1.8 or F4, F5.6 depending on the lens. Your ISO is the third factor. Try to keep it as low as possible but be willing to sacrifice it some to preserve a fast shutter speed to capture action.
Thank you! Excellent information in this video. Your systematic approach is something I'll certainly use next high school football season (Lord willing there is one). Quick question. For day games where there is ample light. Do you ever stop down to F5.6ish to help with getting more in focus or are you always at F2.8 and you adjust your shutter accordingly? I tried F5.6 for a day high school football game I shot the other week and I loved the results. Just wondering what others do. Thank you again.
I like the 100-400 for day games so yes I shoot 5.6 a lot. You still get DOP because of the compression. If i choose to stay wide open I control the ambient with my shutter speed.
@@ShootBetterSports Cool. Thank you. Yeah I really love the look I'm getting with F5.6 during daylight sports. F2.8 is insane separation but the F5.6 still looks amazing and the benefit of getting the play fully in focus. Good stuff. Thank you! I'm really enjoying your channel!
How do you guys approach shooting Football? I'd love to know

What’s your typical setting for a night game at the HS level
Where lights are not that good. 1/1000 2.8 10,000 iso ?
I noticed you took some pics of Gonzaga College High School in DC. I'm on of their videographers. Do you live in DC?
No, When I was in the Military I was stationed up there in the DMV area. I was doing MaxPreps on the weekends occasionally.
